    Fine Maghribī copy of the well-known grammatical work.Origin: Date of transcription is not specified. Paper suggests mid to late 17th century.Accompanying materials: a. Inventory cataloguing slip in hand of Winifred Smeaton Thomas. -- b. Ms. 618Binding: Pasteboards covered in black cloth with black leather over spine (quarter binding) ; Western binding ; board linings and flyleaves in a green wove paper ; spine gold-stamped with title and author ; spine ridges (four) gold-stamped with pattern of dashes, flanked by gold bands ; original sewing difficult to discern, at some point sewn in white thread, but later oversewn ; endbands entirely lacking (may be holes where primaries were stitched) ; in fair condition, with some abrasion to cover ; text block is in poor shape with much pest damage, accretions, and many poor repairs utilizing adhesives that resulted in some blocking ; some scraps with writing used in repairs.Support: European laid paper of several types, primarily with roughly 9 laid lines per cm (mainly vertical but occasionally horizontal), chain lines running horizontally 28-29 mm. apart (mainly horizontal but occasionally vertical), and several different watermarks only barely visible in the gutter, among them what appears to be an eagle in circle (p.54, 394 etc.) and six mounts (p.48, 72, 390 etc.) cf. Velkov Aigle no.1/1A dated 1657, as well as what may be a Paschal lamb (see p.270, 282, 300, 320, 354, etc.) ; lightly burnished ; fairly thick ; some undissolved fibers and inclusions.Decoration: Textual dividers in the form of red discs appear occasionally ; text rubricated with key words, section headings, overlining, some vocalization, etc. in red.Script: Maghribī ; one main hand ; serifed with notable right-sloping head serif on free standing alif, etc. ; characteristic alif of prolongation, curved shafts, etc. ; occasional characteristic Maghribī vocalization in contrasting color (black or red).Layout: Written in 27 lines per page ; frame-ruled with impression of ruling board clearly evident.Collation: i, V+1 (11), 19 V (201), I+1 (204), i ; chiefly quinions ; a few unmarked gaps in the text (see p.28, 32, 336) where headings, etc. may have been left unfilled ; catchwords present, though occasionally obscured by pest damage or repairs ; pagination in pencil Western numerals, supplied during cataloguing.Colophon: "Scribal [?]", rectangular, reads: "كمل الكتاب بحمد الله وحسن عونه وصلى الله على سيدنا ومولانا محمد وعلى اله وصحبه وسلم تسليما والحمد لله رب العالمين"Explicit: "يعز على من رام الا على ... ومفيدا محررا من الناس ويسمح به احد قلبي ... الحمد ثم صلاته وتسليمه الوافي على خاتم الرسل كمل الكتاب ...
