Organizations are beleaguered by stiff competition, a dynamic market environment, and rapid technological changes that threaten the survival of businesses rambling to gain a competitive advantage. Past studies bring forth the role of innovation in services, crucial in driving tremendous growth in terms of economic activity. But, what contributes to innovation in services remains a sparsely researched area. The present study proposes a research model to examine the impact of organizational learning culture on service innovation performance in hotels with dynamic capabilities as a mediating variable. Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) is used for assessing the relationship between variables and validates the research model. The unit of analysis comprised individual employees working in four-star and five-star rated hotels located in the tourist-bound cities of Lucknow, Agra, and Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh (India). Empirical evidences support the positive role of dynamic capabilities in the relationship between organizational learning culture and service innovation performance thereby asserting the importance of developing distinctive capabilities for enhancing service innovation performance in hotels

Duration of antiplatelet therapy cessation before coronary artery bypass surgery: Relation with platelet count

    Get PDF
AbstractAs of now, no study or data is available to determine the period of discontinuation of antiplatelet therapy and the timing of elective surgery in clopidogrel treated patients. The 2011 ACCF/AHA Guidelines have a Class-I recommendation for withdrawing clopidogrel for 5 days before elective coronary artery bypass grafting. However, 5 days period may not suit all patients as platelet count varies from 150Ā Ć—Ā 109/L to 450Ā Ć—Ā 109/L. Based on our retrospective data analysis, we have proposed a hypothesis to determine no of days of discontinuation of antiplatelet therapy while taking in consideration the basal count and life-span of platelets

A Review on Antihyperglycemic and Antihepatoprotective Activity of Eco-Friendly Punica granatum

Over the past decade, pomegranate (Punica granatum) is entitled as a wonder fruit because of its voluminous pharmacological properties. In 1830, P. granatum fruit was first recognized in United States Pharmacopeia; the Philadelphia edition introduced the rind of the fruit, the New York edition the bark of the root and further 1890 edition the stem bark was introduced. There are significant efforts and progress made in establishing the pharmacological mechanisms of peel (pericarp or rind) and the individual constituents responsible for them. This review provides an insight on the phytochemical components that contribute too antihyperglycemic, hepatoprotective, antihyperlipidemic effect, and numerous other effects of wonderful, economic, and eco-friendly pomegranate peel extract (PP)

HPLC Evaluation of Phenolic Profile, Nutritive Content, and Antioxidant Capacity of Extracts Obtained from Punica granatum

This study revealed polyphenolic content, nutritive content, antioxidant activity, and phenolic profile of methanol and aqueous extracts of Punica granatum peel extract. For this, extracts were screened for possible antioxidant activities by free radical scavenging activity (DPPH), hydrogen peroxide scavenging activity and ferric-reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) assays. The total phenolics and flavonoid recovered by methanolic (MPE) and the water extract (AQPE) were ranged from 185ā€‰Ā±ā€‰12.45 to 298.00ā€‰Ā±ā€‰24.86ā€‰mg GAE (gallic acid equivalents)/gm and 23.05ā€‰Ā±ā€‰1.54 to 49.8ā€‰Ā±ā€‰2.14 quercetin (QE) mg/g, respectively. The EC50 of herbal extracts ranged from 100 Āµg/ml (0.38 quercetin equivalents), for AQPE, 168 Āµg/ml (0.80 quercetin equivalents), for MPE. The phenolic profile in the methanolic extracts was investigated by chromatographic (HPLC) method. About 5 different flavonoids, phenolic acids, and their derivatives including quercetin (1), rutin (2), gallic acid (3), ellagic acid (4), and punicalagin as a major ellagitannin (5) have been identified. Among both extracts, methanolic extract was the most effective. This report may be the first to show nutritive content and correlation analysis to suggest that phenols and flavonoids might contribute the high antioxidant activity of this fruit peel and establish it as a valuable natural antioxidant source applicable in the health food industry

Therapeutic Dosing of Acenocoumarol: Proposal of a Population Specific Pharmacogenetic Dosing Algorithm and Its Validation in North Indians

Objectives: To develop a population specific pharmacogenetic acenocoumarol dosing algorithm for north Indian patients and show its efficiency in dosage prediction. Methods: Multiple and linear stepwise regression analyses were used to include age, sex, height, weight, body surface area, smoking status, VKORC1-1639 G.A, CYP4F2 1347 G.A, CYP2C9*2,*3 and GGCX 12970 C.G polymorphisms as variables to generate dosing algorithms. The new dosing models were compared with already reported algorithms and also with the clinical data for various performance measures. Odds ratios for association of genotypes with drug sensitive and resistant groups were calculated. Results: The pharmacogenetic dosing algorithm generated by multiple regression analysis explains 41.4 % (p-value,0.001) of dosage variation. Validation of the new algorithm showed its predictive ability to be better than the already established algorithms based on similar variables. Its validity in our population is reflected by increased sensitivity, specificity, accuracy and decreased rates of over- and under- estimation in comparison to clinical data. The VKORC1-1639 G.A polymorphism was found to be strongly associated with acenocoumarol sensitivity according to recessive model. Conclusions: We have proposed an efficient north India specific pharmacogenetic acenocoumarol dosing algorithm whic

Causality or Relatedness assessment in adverse drug reaction and its relevance in dermatology

Causality assessment essentially means finding a causal association or relationship between a drug and drug reaction. Identifying the culprit drug or drugs can be lifesaving or helpful in preventing the further damage caused by the drug to our body systems. In dermatology practice, when it comes to cutaneous adverse drug reaction, this is much more important and relevant because many aetiologies can produce a similar cutaneous manifestation. There are multiple criteria or algorithms available as of now for establishing a causal relationship in cases of adverse drug reaction (ADR), indicating that none of them is specific or complete. Most of these causality assessment tools (CATs) use four cardinal principles of diagnosis of ADR such as temporal relationship of drug with the drug reaction, biological plausibility of the drug causing a reaction, dechallenge, and rechallenge. The present study reviews some of the established or commonly used CATs and its implications or relevance to dermatology in clinical practice
