Ontology-based similarity for product information retrieval

    Get PDF
Product development of today is becoming increasingly knowledge intensive. Specifically, design teams face considerable challenges in making effective use of increasing amounts of information. In order to support product information retrieval and reuse, one approach is to use case-based reasoning (CBR) in which problems are solved ‘‘by using or adapting solutions to old problems.’’ In CBR, a case includes both a representation of the problem and a solution to that problem. Case-based reasoning uses similarity measures to identify cases which are more relevant to the problem to be solved. However, most nonnumeric similarity measures are based on syntactic grounds, which often fail to produce good matches when confronted with the meaning associated to the words they compare. To overcome this limitation, ontologies can be used to produce similarity measures that are based on semantics. This paper presents an ontology-based approach that can determine the similarity between two classes using feature-based similarity measures that replace features with attributes. The proposed approach is evaluated against other existing similarities. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed approach is illustrated with a case study on product–service–system design problems

Healthcare technologies have become a crucial component of healthcare providers' daily operations. Hence, healthcare innovation technologies are being promoted worldwide. Healthcare service technologies are constantly improving necessitates ongoing research to show how these technologies affect healthcare services. Hence, current study investigating the state of innovative digital healthcare service practises in the UAE. It examining the effect of innovative technology on healthcare service performance in the UAE and modeling mediating role of organisational learning capacity in the relationship between innovative technology and healthcare service performance. A structural equation model was developed in SmartPLS software using the data collected of the questionnaire. The model showed that the factors system development, digital services, process integration, and IT base innovations have strong relationship effect to the health care performance. Also, the organisational learning capacity has strong mediation effect on the health services relationship. This research has contributed to current state of literatur regarding digital service innovations related to health service performance in the UAE. The results exphasized a critical need for practationners for promoting developments in digital services impacted the performance of health services

Knowledge Management And Organizational Performance: A Research On Systematic Literature

Studies that investigate the KM and organizational performance are few. The purpose of this study is to review the literature and review the articles related to the effect of knowledge management (KM) on organizational performance. A systematic literature review was conducted, and three screenings were performed to refine the articles. Article were extracted from Scopus and Web of Science (WoS). A total of 29 articles were considered to meet the selection criteria was reviewed, analyzed, and important information was extracted. A frequency analysis was conducted on these articles. The findings indicated that majority of the articles were extracted from WoS and published between 2015-2017 in Malaysia and Taiwan. The reviewed studies were conducted on manufacturing and technological industries using quantitative method. Sample size in most studies is less than 200 and data was analyzed using first generation of data analysis. Findings were discussed, and it was recommended for future studies to increase the sample size and use more frequently structural equation modeling

Conceptual framework: The role of cognitive absorption in delone and mclean success model in online learning in United Arab Emirates

As COVID-19 pandemic has taken the world by surprise, it has resulted in an alteration to human activities that have never been seen before. Among the many areas that have been mostly affected is the education industry where institutions have resorted to online learning to maintain the educational process during lockdowns and other strict measures that governments around the world have implemented. Performance impact of such technology has risen as the main concern in that context; this study is making use of Delone & Mclean information success model to examine performance impact of online learning with the addition of cognitive absorption as a moderating variable to come out with a proposed conceptual framework for future empirical undertaking. The intended context of this study will be students within the public universities in the United Arab Emirates and implications are thoroughly discussed as well

Factors influencing the actual usage of e-government among employees within public sector organizations in the UAE

Organizations are becoming flatter, more flexible and networked due to the advent of new technologies. Leaders in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) aim to be attain the first spot worldwide in terms of efficiency and effectiveness by focusing on long- term vision and strategy. However, the gap between the essential indicators of ICT towards UAE’s government vision might affect the long-term goals. This study addresses the relationship between smart government effectiveness and knowledge management, while considering the role of institutional challenges as a moderator variable within the public sector in UAE. As a guide for the proposed model in this study, three acceptance models were implemented, namely, the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT), technology acceptance model (TAM), and DeLone and McLean model of information systems success (D&M IS Success Model) as guided for the proposed model. Additionally, quantitative data were collected in this study and analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) and Smarts software. Resultantly, the actual use of E-government was predicted and significantly associated with the change in “Influencing factors”, comprising system quality, information quality, service quality, and social influence. In conclusion, the research hypotheses were accepted as the findings revealed a statistical relationship between the actual use of E-government and influencing factors

Applying Structural Equation Model To Develop A New Model Of Happiness At The Workplace In Promoting Employee Happiness In Public Organization

Happiness at the workplace refers to how satisfied people are with their workplace and lives. Happy people are productive people while those people who are unhappy may not pay full attention to any task. Furthermore, employees in the public organizations in UAE are not well satisfied due to poor workplace conditions. In some ministries in UAE must equipment are not well maintained to ease the work of an employer. The main aim of this paper to develop a Model of happiness at the workplace in promoting employee happiness in public organization using structural equation Model. The data were obtained from the employee of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority in UAE. Since the population of this study is 11787 therefore, the sample size was 370. surveyed through the self-administered Google form and by posting. The data was screened, and out of the 370 questionnaires distributed, 260 were completed and were received. Analysis of Moment Structures (AMOS) in Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) confirmatory factor analysis (measurement and structural measurement models) were used to analyzed the data. Although this study has conceptualized the improving happiness at the workplace in promoting employee happiness in public organization. Additional research is needed among other states in UAE such Dubai. The motivational formulation of employee happiness, job involvement, work place climate and its impact on organizational performance is a point of future research
