    Grad-StyleSpeech: Any-speaker Adaptive Text-to-Speech Synthesis with Diffusion Models

    There has been a significant progress in Text-To-Speech (TTS) synthesis technology in recent years, thanks to the advancement in neural generative modeling. However, existing methods on any-speaker adaptive TTS have achieved unsatisfactory performance, due to their suboptimal accuracy in mimicking the target speakers' styles. In this work, we present Grad-StyleSpeech, which is an any-speaker adaptive TTS framework that is based on a diffusion model that can generate highly natural speech with extremely high similarity to target speakers' voice, given a few seconds of reference speech. Grad-StyleSpeech significantly outperforms recent speaker-adaptive TTS baselines on English benchmarks.     Online home appliance control using EEG-Based brain-computer interfaces

    Brain???computer interfaces (BCIs) allow patients with paralysis to control external devices by mental commands. Recent advances in home automation and the Internet of things may extend the horizon of BCI applications into daily living environments at home. In this study, we developed an online BCI based on scalp electroencephalography (EEG) to control home appliances. The BCI users controlled TV channels, a digital door-lock system, and an electric light system in an unshielded environment. The BCI was designed to harness P300 andN200 components of event-related potentials (ERPs). On average, the BCI users could control TV channels with an accuracy of 83.0% ?? 17.9%, the digital door-lock with 78.7% ?? 16.2% accuracy, and the light with 80.0% ?? 15.6% accuracy, respectively. Our study demonstrates a feasibility to control multiple home appliances using EEG-based BCIs

    Effect Of Changes In The Korean Accounting Environment On The Productivity Of Accounting Firms

    To investigate how changes in the accounting environment in Korea affect firm productivity, this study analyzes productivity by firm size and labor type from 2000 to 2014, using a Cobb–Douglas production function. We find that (1) the greater the management advisory (tax) revenue, the greater the total revenue in large (small) accounting firms; and (2) marginal revenue is greatest for partners, followed by certified public accountants and general employees. In particular, partners’ contribution to large accounting firms improved after 2007, whereas general employees made a significant positive contribution to total revenue before 2007

    Organic core-sheath nanowire artificial synapses with femtojoule energy consumption

    Emulation of biological synapses is an important step toward construction of large-scale brain-inspired electronics. Despite remarkable progress in emulating synaptic functions, current synaptic devices still consume energy that is orders of magnitude greater than do biological synapses (similar to 10 fJ per synaptic event). Reduction of energy consumption of artificial synapses remains a difficult challenge. We report organic nanowire (ONW) synaptic transistors (STs) that emulate the important working principles of a biological synapse. The ONWs emulate the morphology of nerve fibers. With a core-sheath-structured ONW active channel and a well-confined 300-nm channel length obtained using ONW lithography, similar to 1.23 fJ per synaptic event for individual ONW was attained, which rivals that of biological synapses. The ONW STs provide a significant step toward realizing low-energy-consuming artificial intelligent electronics and open new approaches to assembling soft neuromorphic systems with nanometer feature size.1161Yscopu

    Temperature-dependent evolutions of excitonic superfluid plasma frequency in a srong excitonic insulator candidate, Ta2_2NiSe5_5

    We investigate an interesting anisotropic van der Waals material, Ta2_{2}NiSe5_{5}, using optical spectroscopy. Ta2_{2}NiSe5_{5} has been known as one of the few excitonic insulators proposed over 50 years ago. Ta2_{2}NiSe5_{5} has quasi-one dimensional chains along the aa-axis. We have obtained anisotropic optical properties of a single crystal Ta2_{2}NiSe5_{5} along the aa- and cc-axes. The measured aa- and cc-axis optical conductivities exhibit large anisotropic electronic and phononic properties. With regard to the aa-axis optical conductivity, a sharp peak near 3050 cm1^{-1} at 9 K, with a well-defined optical gap (ΔEI\Delta^{EI} \simeq 1800 cm1^{-1}) and a strong temperature-dependence, is observed. With an increase in temperature, this peak broadens and the optical energy gap closes around \sim325 K(TcEIT_c^{EI}). The spectral weight redistribution with respect to the frequency and temperature indicates that the normalized optical energy gap (ΔEI(T)/ΔEI(0)\Delta^{EI}(T)/\Delta^{EI}(0)) is 1(T/TcEI)21-(T/T_c^{EI})^2. The temperature-dependent superfluid plasma frequency of the excitonic condensation in Ta2_{2}NiSe5_{5} has been determined from measured optical data.     Electrospray deposition of polymer thin films for organic light-emitting diodes

    Electrospray process was developed for organic layer deposition onto polymer organic light-emitting diode [PLED] devices in this work. An electrospray can be used to produce nanometer-scale thin films by electric repulsion of microscale fine droplets. PLED devices made by an electrospray process were compared with spin-coated ones. The PLED device fabricated by the electrospray process showed maximum current efficiency of 24 cd/A, which was comparable with that of the spin-coating process. The electrospray process required a higher concentration of hole and electron transport materials in the inks than spin-coating processes to achieve PLED maximum performance. Photoluminescence [PL] at 407 nm was observed using electrosprayed poly(N-vinyl carbazole) films, whereas a peak at 410 nm was observed with the spin-coated ones. Similar difference in peak position was observed between aromatic and nonaromatic solvents in the spin-coating process. PLED devices made by the electrospray process showed lower current density than that of spin-coated ones. The PL peak shift and reduced current of electrosprayed films can therefore be attributed to the conformation of the polymer

    Technical Change, Heterogeneity in Skill Demand, and Employment Polarization

    We explore how the rapid adoption of computer-related assets affects the recent polarization of employment in the U.S. labor market, which is inconsistent with the skill-biased technological change hypothesis. Similar to Goos and Manning (2007), we show that the job polarization could be explained by the routinization hypothesisof Autor, Levy, and Murnane (2003). Our empirical analyses confirm that the newly adopted computer-related capitals change the demands for three types of skilled workers heterogeneously, leading to a polarization in employment structure
