    SANTRI’S LANGUAGE ATTITUDE TOWARD JAVANESE LANGUAGE ON PESANTREN TEACHING WITHIN THE CONTEXT OF JAVANESE LANGUAGE MAINTENANCE

    The research is conducted with the aims at figuring out Javanese language attitude of santri studying at tradisional pesantren in Semarang. It will also reveal the positive output resulted from the attitude in defining Javanese language position within the context of Javanese language maintenance. The data are taken from 15 pesantren in Semarang by giving questionnaire to 20 percent of santri studying on each pesantren. Observation is also conducted to those 15 pesantren with the purpose to observe the use of Javanese language as the medium of teaching in Kitab classes. The result shows that overall, santri have positive attitude toward Javanese language. Almost all of the santri are able to use Javanese Ngoko, and all of them feel the need to use Javanese Krama to communicate with kyai, although they are also aware of the risk of making mistake in using it. The use of Javanese language is viewed not just as a neccesity but it is also considered important sentimentally, that is Javanese language is considered as part of their identity. The use of Javanese language is also considered important in term of continuing pesantren’s tradition. These views reflect the instrumental attachment toward Javanese language as well, that is Javanese language will continue be used as medium of instruction in Kitab teaching, and therefore santri who wish to establish their on pesantren/teaching will feel the need to keep on usi ng Javanese language in their teaching for the future generation

    Abstract This research studies the structure of phrase of the menu name taken from CempakaMinggu Ini (CMI). The objective of this research is to describe the phrase structure of Englishmenu names. Theory used in this research is based on the Brown & Miller, Hockett and Baker‘stheory. The result of this qualitative research shows that noun phrases are classified into 6 nounphrases consisting of determiner and noun, 29 noun phrases formed from pure adjective andnoun, 50 noun phrases formed from derivation adjective and noun, and 113 noun phrases formedfrom noun and noun

    Javanese Language is learnt and studied by many people throughout the world as it has a complex system of language covering the letters (Javanese Language Orthography), the politeness level, and also the history and the culture behind the language. However, there is a concern on    Javanese Language shift by its young speakers because they tend to use Indonesian Language       as Indonesia’s Official Language, English as the world’s international language, or another popular language in the world like Korean with its K-Pop phenomenon. Javanese Language maintenance is then needed to keep these young generation as the language users who will pass it to the next generation. One of the ways to do it is embracing their world so that the language        is considered good and beneficial for them as the young generation. Since music and song is      very close to the young generation as they are very up to date with the latest trend of it,               the language maintenance can be done through exposing Javanese kinds of music and songs. Recently, a kind of Javanese music called Campursari along with its songs are gaining popularity with the fame of The Godfather of The Brokenheart, Didi Kempot, who creates thousands of Campursari songs full of love stories in the lyric, particularly the brokenheart storied. Out of nowhere, the young generation, who are Javanese, who are Javanese but do not understand Javanese Language or even who are not Javanese and not understand Javanese Language are joining the crowd and becoming his fans that previously filled with the old generation.              This research shows how Junior Highschool Students maintain the Javanese Language usage       by liking the music, singing the songs and understanding the Javanese Language in the lyric.     This research also observes whether they still know or able to sing traditional Javanese songs    they exposed from their family, environment (neighbourhood) or Javanese Language class at school that shows their Javanese Language maintenance. Keywords: language maintenance, Javanese Language, students, Junior Highschool, Campursari, Javanese music and son

Through language in prescription onoral story, a culture is shared. To preserve the language, language maintenance is needed. This research showshow Javaneselanguage is integrated in Dhoplang Javanese Traditional Market in Wonogiri, Central Java as it sells Javanese traditional foodusing Javanese traditional wrapping made of banana leaves. The management is also ordering buyers and requesting sellers to use Javanese language and wear Javanese traditional clothes.     Javanese culture is one of many great cultures in the world possessing seven universal elements of culture covering the complex systems of belief, social organization, knowledge, language, art, livelihood, and living tools.     In academic discourse, article abstract is a genre with certain structure. This article is focused on the rhetorical structure or the move of the scientific article abstract. The data were taken from seven article abstracts in English, in one language journal. The result showed that scientific article abstract can be formed by five moves: background, statement, method, and result of the research as well as the comment about the result of the research. Not all moves can be found in one article abstract. Most of abstract consists of three or four moves. The second move -statement of the research- and the third move –method of the research are the most important part as it always appears in the whole data corpus

    DEIXIS ANALYSIS IN “A NIGHT AT THE OPERA” ALBUM

    This research discussed types of deixis found in Queen’s album entitled “A Night At The Opera”. It is aimed at revealing the deixis in the song lyrics and explaining the deictic words used by all members of Queen by utilizing the theory of deixis as the analysing tool. The deixis was collected from 11 (eleven) songs’ lyrics on the album by using observation and audio-visual material techniques. The lyrics were copied into.docx format so that the researchers can matched the lyrics while listening to the songs before finally analyse the deixis in it. The result shows that this album contains the whole types of the deixis listed in Levinson’s theory of deixis. The most dominant deixis wasperson and time deixis, while the least dominant one is discourse. The result also exposes the mostly used type of deixis by all members of Queen, that is, first person deictic words since the whole 11 songs in the album mostly told their fans or song listeners about their own story or experience.Keywords: deixis, reference, context, song lyric
