    OPDN: Omnidirectional Position-aware Deformable Network for Omnidirectional Image Super-Resolution

    360{\deg} omnidirectional images have gained research attention due to their immersive and interactive experience, particularly in AR/VR applications. However, they suffer from lower angular resolution due to being captured by fisheye lenses with the same sensor size for capturing planar images. To solve the above issues, we propose a two-stage framework for 360{\deg} omnidirectional image superresolution. The first stage employs two branches: model A, which incorporates omnidirectional position-aware deformable blocks (OPDB) and Fourier upsampling, and model B, which adds a spatial frequency fusion module (SFF) to model A. Model A aims to enhance the feature extraction ability of 360{\deg} image positional information, while Model B further focuses on the high-frequency information of 360{\deg} images. The second stage performs same-resolution enhancement based on the structure of model A with a pixel unshuffle operation. In addition, we collected data from YouTube to improve the fitting ability of the transformer, and created pseudo low-resolution images using a degradation network. Our proposed method achieves superior performance and wins the NTIRE 2023 challenge of 360{\deg} omnidirectional image super-resolution.Comment: Accepted to CVPRW 202

    Coevolution in Hybrid Genomes: Nuclear-Encoded Rubisco Small Subunits and Their Plastid-Targeting Translocons Accompanying Sequential Allopolyploidy Events in Triticum

    The Triticum/Aegilops complex includes hybrid species resulting from homoploid hybrid speciation and allopolyploid speciation. Sequential allotetra- and allohexaploidy events presumably result in two challenges for the hybrids, which involve 1) cytonuclear stoichiometric disruptions caused by combining two diverged nuclear genomes with the maternal inheritance of the cytoplasmic organellar donor; and 2) incompatibility of chimeric protein complexes with diverged subunits from nuclear and cytoplasmic genomes. Here, we describe coevolution of nuclear rbcS genes encoding the small subunits of Rubisco (ribulose 1,5-bisphosphate carboxylase/oxygenase) and nuclear genes encoding plastid translocons, which mediate recognition and translocation of nuclear-encoded proteins into plastids, in allopolyploid wheat species. We demonstrate that intergenomic paternal-to-maternal gene conversion specifically occurred in the genic region of the homoeologous rbcS3 gene from the D-genome progenitor of wheat (abbreviated as rbcS3D) such that it encodes a maternal-like or B-subgenome-like SSU3D transit peptide in allohexaploid wheat but not in allotetraploid wheat. Divergent and limited interaction between SSU3D and the D-subgenomic TOC90D translocon subunit is implicated to underpin SSU3D targeting into the chloroplast of hexaploid wheat. This implicates early selection favoring individuals harboring optimal maternal-like organellar SSU3D targeting in hexaploid wheat. These data represent a novel dimension of cytonuclear evolution mediated by organellar targeting and transportation of nuclear proteins

    Trends and all-cause mortality associated with multimorbidity of non-communicable diseases among adults in the United States, 1999-2018: a retrospective cohort study

    OBJECTIVES Multimorbidity of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) has brought enormous challenges to public health, becoming a major medical burden. However, the patterns, temporal trends, and all-cause mortality associated with NCD multimorbidity over time have not been well described in the United States. METHODS All adult participants were sourced from nationally representative data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. In total, 55,081 participants were included in trend analysis, and 38,977 participants were included in Cox regression. RESULTS The 5 NCDs with the largest increases over the study period were diabetes, osteoporosis, obesity, liver conditions, and cancer. The estimated prevalence of multimorbidity increased with age, especially for middle-aged participants with 5 or more NCDs; in general, the prevalence of NCD multimorbidity was higher among females than males. Participants with 5 or more NCDs were at 4.49 times the risk of all-cause mortality of participants without any diseases. Significant interactions were found between multimorbidity and age group (p for interaction <0.001), race/ethnicity (p for interaction<0.001), and educational attainment (p for interaction=0.010). CONCLUSIONS The prevalence of multiple NCDs significantly increased from 1999 to 2018. Those with 5 or more NCDs had the highest risk of all-cause mortality, especially among the young population. The data reported by this study could serve as a reference for additional NCD research

    Cognitive Impairment Mediates the Association between Dietary Inflammation and Depressive Symptoms in the Elderly

    The underlying mechanism in both cognitive impairment and depression was chronic inflammation, which could be reflected by the dietary inflammatory index (DII). However, the effect of cognitive impairment on the association between DII and depression was not clear. Therefore, in this study, we hypothesized that cognitive impairment could mediate the association between dietary inflammation and depressive symptoms. A total of 2550 participants aged ≥60 from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) in 2011–2014 were involved in the serial, cross-sectional study. Proinflammatory and anti-inflammatory diets were measured by DII. Cognitive impairment was measured by four dimensions, CERAD-immediate, CERAN-delayed, animal fluency test, and DSST. Depressive symptoms were measured by PHQ-9 scores. We found that a proinflammatory diet and cognitive impairment were both risk factors for depressive symptoms. An interaction between an inflammatory diet and cognitive impairment was detected (P-interaction = 0.060). In addition, all four dimensions of cognition mediated the association between DII and depressive symptom scores. Part of the association between DII and depressive symptoms scores could be explained by different dimensions of cognitive function, and the proportion of mediation ranged from 10.0% to 36.7%. In conclusion, cognitive impairment levels partly mediated the association between DII and depressive symptoms

    The Addition of Hypomethylating Agents to Low-Intensity Induction Chemotherapy Does Not Improve Outcomes in Elderly Acute Myeloid Leukemia Patients: A Single-Center Retrospective Study

    Background and Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate whether the addition of hypomethylating agents (HMA) to low-intensity chemotherapy can enhance the clinical efficacy of induction treatment for elderly acute myeloid leukemia (AML) patients who are unsuitable for standard induction therapy. Materials and Methods: This study retrospectively analyzed 117 patients over 60 years old who were initially diagnosed with AML and received low-intensity induction treatment in the Department of Hematology in Anhui provincial hospital from January 2015 to December 2020. Twenty-three patients were excluded, and the remaining 94 patients were divided into two groups according to the selection of induction regimens. Results: Forty-four patients received HMA combined with low-intensity chemotherapy, and the other 50 patients received only low-intensity induction chemotherapy. Forty-three patients (45.7%) obtained complete remission (CR) after the initial induction treatment. The CR rate in the HMA plus low-intensity chemotherapy group was 34.1% (15/44), and in the single low-intensity chemotherapy group was 56.0% (28/50) (p = 0.04). The 30 days cumulative early death rates were 9.1% (95% CI: 3.5–22.4%) in the HMA plus low-intensity chemotherapy group and 6.0% (95% CI: 2.0–17.5%) in the single low-intensity chemotherapy group, respectively (p = 0.59), and the one-year cumulative relapse rates were 21.1% (95% Cl: 9.8–41.9%) and 33.3% (95% Cl: 20.3–51.5%), respectively (p = 0.80). The one-year overall survival (OS) rates for patients in the HMA plus low-intensity chemotherapy group and the single low-intensity chemotherapy group were 37.3% (95% Cl: 23.1–51.5%) and 55.4% (95% Cl: 40.5–67.9%), respectively (p = 0.098), and the one-year event-free survival (EFS) rates were 8.5% (95% Cl: 2.2–20.6%) and 20.6% (95% Cl: 9.1–35.3%), respectively (p = 0.058). Conclusions: This study showed that the addition of HMA to low-intensity induction chemotherapy does not improve prognosis in elderly AML patients who are unsuitable for standard induction chemotherapy

    The incidence, risk factors and outcomes of early bloodstream infection in patients with malignant hematologic disease after unrelated cord blood transplantation: a retrospective study

    Abstract Background Bloodstream infection (BSI) is one of the major causes of morbidity and mortality for patients undergoing hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT). The unrelated cord blood transplantation (UCBT) can provided opportunities for patients without suitable donors for bone marrow transplantation (BMT) and peripheral blood stem cell transplantation (PBSCT), while few studies have addressed BSI after UCBT. The aim of this study was to analyse the incidence and risk factors of BSI, causative organisms, microbial resistance, and its impact on the clinical outcomes and survival of patients. Methods There are 336 patients, were divided into two groups depending on whether developing BSI. Demographic characteristics, laboratory data, and clinical outcome were compared between different groups. The risk factors of BSI was examined using logistic regression and the survival was examined using the Kaplan-Meier method and log-rank test. Results Ninety-two patients (27.4%) developed early BSI with 101 pathogenic bacteria isolated, and the median day of developing initial BSI was 4.5 d. Gram-negative bacteria were the most common isolate (60, 59.4%), followed by Gram-positive bacteria (40, 39.6%) and fungi (1, 1.0%). Thirty-seven (36.6%) isolates were documented as having multiple drug resistance (MDR). Myeloid malignancies, conditioning regimens including total body irradiation (TBI), and prolonged neutropenia were identified as the independent risk factors for early BSI. The 3-year OS was 59.9% versus 69.2% in the BSI group and no-BSI group (P = 0.0574), respectively. The 3-year OS of the MDR group was significantly lower than that of the non-BSI group (51.1% versus 69.2%, p = 0.013). Conclusions Our data indicate that the incidence of early BSI after UCBT was high, especially in patients with myeloid disease and a conditioning regimen including TBI and prolonged neutropenia. Early BSI with MDR after UCBT had a negative impact on long-term survival
