Information Extraction from Heterogeneous WWW Resources

    Get PDF
The information available on the WWW is growing very fast. However, a fundamental problem with the information on the WWW is its lack of structure making its exploitation very difficult. As a result, the desired information is getting more difficult to retrieve and extract. To overcome this problem many tools and techniques are being developed and used for locating the web pages of interest and extracting the desired information from these pages. In this paper we present the first prototype of an Information Extraction (IE) system that attempts to extract information on different Computer Science related courses offered by British Universities

SERVICE-ORIENTED ARCHITECTURE INTIATIVES WITH INFORMATION QUALITY: EXPLORING THE ISSUES

    Get PDF
The implementation of service-oriented architecture (SOA) initiatives can help a business to leverage technology and to make it more agile and flexible to respond to rapidly changing requirements. However, enterprises cannot fully exploit its benefits, if bad information is delivered that is worthless to customers, suppliers and partners. In this context, there is a need for quality information management to build reliable SOA-based systems from the beginning. Organisations - whether engaged in work-in-progress or at the beginning of SOA initiatives - need to ensure every business process works correctly and according to business needs and requirements, by considering information quality in their initial plans. This paper reports case study research undertaken in seven organisations via semi-structured interviews. It highlights a number of information quality related issues that they encountered during implementation of their SOA initiatives, provides the reasons behind these issues and suggests possible guidelines. Consequently, dimensions of information quality associated with the issues are determined for the organisations? future reference for quality SOA initiatives

Individual student key performance using mobile web apps based on knowledge profile and cumulative grade point average

    Get PDF
This study investigated the performance of individual students toward the knowledge profile and cumulative grade point average or known as CGPA. The proposal of this paper involves two major components. The first component is investigating the individual student performance based on the knowledge profile and CGPA. The performance of students from cohort 2017 for the program Bachelor of Electrical Engineering (BEKG) courses in the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM) was used as the dataset. The case study separates into various groups (excellent, honors and pass). Secondly, the study proposed a responsive web application leveraging a Google Visualization Feature to self-check individual academic performance. The goal of this app is to assist users in evaluating individual student performance and assist management in planning for continual quality improvement using the web and mobile apps. The marketing segments include students, academics, university, and school administration for analysis and evaluate the individual student’s performance

Architecture of Mobile Web Application for Generating Dynamic Route Map

    Get PDF
Integrated Light Rail Transit (LRT) System in the capital of Malaysia connects some key districts where historical places, interesting places, business areas and shopping malls are concentrated. The train services are running independently but have points where they have interchanges. This may leads the traveler facing difficulty when they are choosing incorrect destination station especially on different LRT lines which contribute to time consuming and high costing. Thus, we present an architecture in developing mobile application that runs on a Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) to provide the solution for traveler to reach the desired destination. It is use to dynamically generate dynamic route map by determining the nearest station according to the specific places. The architecture, web components and its implementation are proposed and discussed in this paper

Theoretical Isotope Generator: An Alternative towards Isotope Pattern Calculator

    Get PDF
A number of mass spectrometry applications are already available as web-based and windows-based systems to calculate isotope pattern and to display the mass spectrum based on the specific molecular formula besides providing necessary information. These applications were evaluated and compared with our new alternative application called Theoretical Isotope Generator (TIG) in terms of its functionality and features provided to prove this new application is working better and performing well. TIG provides extra features than others, complete with several functionality such as drawing, normalizing and zooming the generated graph that convey with the molecular information in a number of formats by providing the details of the calculation and molecules. Thus, any chemist, students, lecturers and researchers from anywhere could use TIG to gain related information on molecules and their relative intensity

Destination-Oriented Route in Integrated LRT Web-Based System for Tourism

    Get PDF
Light Rail Transit (LRT) Monorail and RapidKL are one of the major public transportations in Kuala Lumpur (KL), Malaysia and by traveling in LRT is said to be the most convenient public transport. In LRT RapidKL, there are three train-lines; Kelana Jaya Line, Ampang Line and Sri Petaling Line. This paper addresses the problem of selecting nearest destination station to a given places of interest such as shopping places, historical places and interesting places which may involve at least two LRT lines and need of interchange station. Thus, the traveler may face difficulty when they choosing incorrect station especially on different LRT lines which lead to time consuming and high cost. Producing web-based system for Internet applications in tourism has become wide spread and within this paper, the development of web-based application where destination-oriented routes need to be dynamically generated by determining the nearest station according to the specified places. In addition, this system provides detail information on interchange station (if any), estimated time arrive, total fares and operating hours

Driving The Business Service-Oriented Architecture Enabled Initiative

    Get PDF
Service-oriented architecture (SOA) continues to gain interest and deliver its business value as so many organisations are force to integrate increasingly diverse legacy systems and complex application environments. Organisations are moving towards implementing SOA initiative to become business SOA-enabled for reducing complexity and increasing business agility. Driving the initiative of SOA into business requires a set of requirements in order to successfully implement SOA. These requirements are four fundamentals of SOA initiative with associated seven elements of SOA which have been discovered via thoroughly literature analysis. A model therefore is proposed for businesses to understand how to implement and run SOA to actually achieving benefits from their SOA initiative

A Mobile Application Architecture for Measuring Shaft Misalignment

    Get PDF
Shaft alignment task is one of the important issues in manufacturing maintenance particularly to personnel who daily facing misalignment problem. The importance increase as shaft alignment needs high accuracy and precise measurement will reduces bearing and seal damage, minimizes energy loss, and reduces production downtime. Thus, in this paper we present an architecture in developing mobile application for shaft alignment that could saves the user the arduous task of using dial gauges. The aim is to solve engineering maintenance problem that runs on a Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) and brings the solution straight to the user’s fingertips. This would shorten processing time, provide reliable and better accuracy analysis and as a medium for data sharing thus increase communication level within a manufacturing plant

The growth of the World Wide Web gave birth to online businesses and with rapid changes in web technologies, Internet commerce is expected to grow. Despite the growth, many online businesses have failed. Thus, the quality aspects in developing Internet commerce application are very important issues to the success of customers experience initiatives. This review paper analyses the relevant literature on the aspects of quality in Internet commerce in relation to customers' behaviour. The analysis results reveal that the key aspects of quality are system quality, information quality and service quality which have strong effect on customers' behaviour - trust, satisfaction and loyalty. The importance of quality in Internet commerce needs to be valued and accepted in order to mature and improve the electronic service online for customers
