Rehabilitation through parole system in Malaysia: the role of optimism as mediating variable in the relationship between self-efficacy and resilience
Identifying the personal characteristics of parolees that can reduce the likelihood of committing crimes is a great challenge to prison officers in order to ensure that rehabilitation process is handled success-fully. The changes recommended to prisoners under parole are to increase their self-efficacy, develop-ing optimism and maintaining a high level of resilience. This study employs a cross-sectional survey research design. A total of 280 prisoners undergoing parole monitoring were recruited as respondents. A set of questionnaire was used consisting of the General Self-Efficacy Scale, the Positive Thinking Rating Scale and a self-developed resilience scale. Results showed that there were significant correla-tions between self-efficacy, optimism and resilience. Further, findings indicated that optimism partially mediated the relationship between self-efficacy and resilience. Implications are discussed in the context of preventing recidivism among parolees and strategies to increase effectiveness of rehabilitation in the parole system
Sauna technique, drying kinetic modelling and effectiveness compared with direct drying in drying process of Kappaphycus Striatum in Selakan Island Malaysia.
A sauna drying technique—the solar drier was designed and imposed, constructed and tested for drying of seaweed. The seaweed moisture content was decreased around 50% in 2-day sau-na. Kinetic curves of drying of seaweed were known to be used in this system. The non-linear re-gression procedure was used to fit three different drying models. The models were compared with experimental data of red seaweed being dried on the daily average of air temperature about 40°C. The fit quality of the models was evaluated using the coefficient of determination (R2), Mean Bias Error (MBE) and Root Mean Square Error (RMSE). The highest values of R2 (0.99027), the lowest MBE (0.00044) and RMSE (0.03039) indicated that the Page model was the best mathematical model to describe the drying behavior of sauna dried seaweed. The percentage of the saved time using this technique was calculated at 57.9% on the average solar radiation of about 500 W/m2 and air flow rate of 0.056 kg/s

How service quality affects the customer satisfaction: Case study of electric train service (ETS)
Service quality played the important role and it affected to the customer satisfaction.Service quality has become a distinct and important aspect of the product and service offering. In this study, we investigated the effects of service quality on customer satisfaction in electric train service (ETS) industry Malaysia, focusing on the five
dimensions in service quality which is tangible, responsiveness, assurance, reliability and empathy. We use questionnaire to collect the data from ETS passenger at northern region Malaysia KTMB station. The hypotheses on the causal relationships among service quality and customer satisfaction were tested by using IBM SPSS Statistics version 23 statistical technique. The results show negative correlation between the
customer satisfaction and five dimensions in service quality. This study helps ETS to know about their customer satisfaction and can help they improve their service quality if there got any weaknesses. Future research needs to be done to investigate in details about this stud
The effectiveness of sauna technique on the drying period and kinetics of seaweed Kappaphycus Alvarezii using solar drier
A sauna drying technique was designed and imposed. A V-Groove Hybrid Solar Drier (VGHSD) was constructed and tested for drying of seaweeds. Drying of sample seaweed in VGHSD reduced the moisture content from about 90.50% to 38% in 4 days at average solar radiation of about 600W/m2 and mass flow rate about 0.056 kg/s. The seaweed moisture content was decreased around 50% within 2 days in the sauna. Kinetic curves of drying of seaweeds are known to use this system. The non-linear regression procedure was used to fit three different drying models. The models were compared with experimental data of red seaweed drying at the daily air temperature average of about 40oC. The fit quality of the models was evaluated using the coefficient of determination (R2), Mean Bias Error (MBE) and Root Mean Square Error (RMSE). The highest values of R2 (0.9348), the lowest MBE (0.00131) and RMSE (0.01325) indicated that the Page model is the best mathematical model to describe the drying behavior of sauna dried seaweed. The saving time using this technique was calculated of 57.9% at the average solar radiation of about 500 W/m2 and air flow rate of 0.056

Differential Responses to Blood Pressure and Oxidative Stress in Streptozotocin-Induced Diabetic Wistar-Kyoto Rats and Spontaneously Hypertensive Rats: Effects of Antioxidant (Honey) Treatment
Oxidative stress is implicated in the pathogenesis and/or complications of hypertension and/or diabetes mellitus. A combination of these disorders increases the risk of developing cardiovascular events. This study investigated the effects of streptozotocin (60 mg/kg; ip)-induced diabetes on blood pressure, oxidative stress and effects of honey on these parameters in the kidneys of streptozotocin-induced diabetic Wistar-Kyoto (WKY) and spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR). Diabetic WKY and SHR were randomized into four groups and received distilled water (0.5 mL) and honey (1.0 g/kg) orally once daily for three weeks. Control SHR had reduced malondialdehyde (MDA) and increased systolic blood pressure (SBP), catalase (CAT) activity, and total antioxidant status (TAS). SBP, activities of glutathione peroxidase (GPx) and glutathione reductase (GR) were elevated while TAS was reduced in diabetic WKY. In contrast, SBP, TAS, activities of GPx and GR were reduced in diabetic SHR. Antioxidant (honey) treatment further reduced SBP in diabetic SHR but not in diabetic WKY. It also increased TAS, GSH, reduced glutathione (GSH)/oxidized glutathione (GSSG) ratio, activities of GPx and GR in diabetic SHR. These data suggest that differences in types, severity, and complications of diseases as well as strains may influence responses to blood pressure and oxidative stress
Influence of viscosity on dynamic magnetization of thermally blocked iron oxide nanoparticles characterized by a sensitive AC magnetometer
In this work, we show that the viscosity of carrier liquid affects the dynamic magnetization of thermally blocked multi-core iron oxide nanoparticles. The core size of the nanoparticles was determined from the magnetization curve measured by a specially developed high-Tc SQUID magnetometer and calculated to be 11.7 nm. Using an AC magnetometer developed based on induction coils, the dynamic magnetization of the multi-core iron oxide nanoparticle solution was measured from 3 Hz to 10.48 kHz. Later, we reconstructed of the hydrodynamic size distribution of the particles by assuming a log-normal distribution of particle size in an AC susceptibility model by Shliomis and Stepanov, which accounts for anisotropic directions of the easy axes of magnetic nanoparticles with respect to the excitation field direction. The reconstructed hydrodynamic sizes showed an average diameter of 130 nm and agreed with the size determined by dynamic light scattering method. In the case of increasing viscosity of the carrier liquids from 0.89 to 8.11 mPa s, the dynamic magnetization peaks of the imaginary component have shifted to a lower frequency region. We showed that the harmonics ratio and phase delay upon the magnetic field excitation at 30 Hz could also be used to determine the viscosity of carrier liquid independently
