Dynamics and decoherence in the central spin model using exact methods

    Get PDF
The dynamics and decoherence of an electronic spin-1/2 qubit coupled to a bath of nuclear spins via hyperfine interactions in a quantum dot is studied. We show how exact results from the integrable solution can be used to understand the dynamic behavior of the qubit. It is possible to predict the main frequency contributions and their broadening for relatively general initial states analytically, leading to an estimate of the corresponding decay times. Furthermore, for a small bath polarization, a new low-frequency time scale is observed.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figures. Published version. See also http://www.physik.uni-kl.de/eggert/papers/index.htm

Corporate Accelerators As Recent Form Of Startup Engagement: The What, The Why, And The How

An increasing number of established companies have recently started to launch corporate accelerator programs to engage with entrepreneurial startups, making this a worldwide, cross-industrial phenomenon. Nevertheless, there is a lack of understanding of the various objectives and approaches adopted by companies. This article examines 13 in-depth case studies of corporate accelerator programs and is the first to empirically derive and discuss a typology for corporate accelerators, assessing objectives and design configurations. Thereby, the article contributes to the emerging discussion about corporate accelerators in corporate entrepreneurship literature. Moreover, the findings provide corporate managers with an understanding of corporate accelerators and guidance for how to make design choices for startup engagement programs.

The evolution of the structural phase states in the Tantalum coatings formed on the NiTi substrate and their change after low energy high-current pulsed electron beam (LEHCPEB) treatment has been investigated by using X-ray diffraction technique. It was found that after LEHCPEB at E=15 J/cm{2} of coated samples alfa-Ta phase of the coating remains. In addition to the B2 phase of the substrate the[beta]-Ta[2]O[5] phase andmartensitephase B19' were detected in the surface layer. The appearance of martensite probably occurred due to the partial dissolution of Ta in TiNi

Digital new ventures: Assessing the benefits of digitalization in entrepreneurship

New ventures must rigorously manage their resources because they suffer from the liabilities of newness and smallness. Digitalization, traditionally associated with resource savings, higher operational efficiency and more flexibility, implies great benefits for new ventures; however, this effect has not been empirically proven. Implementing the resource-based view, this article uses a survey with 102 new ventures to investigate how new ventures benefit from digitalization. We clustered the new ventures in three groups according to their degree of digitalization (low, medium or high) and conducted an analysis of variance to compare the benefits of digitalization among these groups. Our results show that a higher degree of digitalization in new ventures does not result in direct resource savings such as decreased human capital or office space needed; rather, it results in indirect savings through increased operational efficiency. It also leads to considerably greater market flexibility. Our findings assist founder and founder support initiatives in evaluating the necessity of investing in digitalization given the benefits realized

Graduating nurse students' interest in older people nursing-A cross-sectional survey in six European countries

Background: Countries vary in the number of qualified nurses employed in older adult services. Moreover, students' views of older people nursing as a career differ internationally. Studying future nurses and their career intentions for the field is warranted to meet the increased nurse workforce expectations in terms of quantity and competence.Aim: To analyse graduating nurse students' interest in older people nursing and the factors associated with it.Methods: A cross-sectional multicountry survey design was applied. Data were collected between May 2018 and March 2019 from several educational institutions in Finland, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Lithuania and Spain. Non-probability convenience sampling was used to recruit graduating nurse students (n = 1796). The data were collected with a structured questionnaire comprising background factors and the Willingness sub-scale (six items) of the Students' Interest in Nursing Older People Scale. Data were analysed using a linear mixed model including relevant background variables. Results: Overall, students' interest in older people nursing was low (score 20.5, on a 0-100 scale). Among the studied countries, Spanish students scored the highest (38.8) and German students the lowest (3.6). Students' interest in older people nursing was associated with country (p Conclusion: In the studied sample of future nurse professionals, interest in older people nursing is low at a time when the field suffers from workforce shortage. As for quality workforce, it was promising that the students who considered working in the field also evaluated themselves as competent.Implications for practice: Multidimensional actions are required to promote interest in the field, including continued development of competence in both undergraduate education and workplaces, and investing in various career pathways to envisage potential opportunities.</p

The students who were most interested in older people nursing had higher self-reported competence level (p < .001).
