Non-volatile memory and IR radiation modulators based upon graphene-on-ferroelectric substrate. A review
I present a review of both experimental and theoretical studies performed
during the recent three years, which deal with the physical properties and
possible applications of graphene placed on ferroelectric (organic or
Pb(ZrxTi1-x)O3 (PZT) ceramic) substrates. The system 'graphene-on-ferroelectric
substrate' has unique advantages in comparison with the graphene deposited on
SiO2 or on dielectrics with high dielectric permittivity. In particular, one
can obtain high (~ 1012 cm-2) carrier concentrations in the doped
graphene-on-ferroelectric structures for moderate (of the order of 1 V) gate
voltages. The existence of a hysteresis (or anti-hysteresis) in the dependence
of electrical resistance of graphene channel on the gate voltage facilitates
creating bistable systems for different applications. The use of ferroelectric
substrates has already enabled developing of robust elements of non-volatile
memory of a new generation. These elements operate for more than 105 switching
cycles and store information for more than 103 s. Such systems can be
characterised theoretically by ultrafast switching rates (~ 10-100 fs). A
theoretical analysis has also demonstrated that the structures 'graphene-on-PZT
ferroelectric substrate' would result in developing efficient and fast
small-sized modulators of mid-IR and near-IR radiations for different
optoelectronic applications.Comment: 23 pages, 17 figure
The analysis of the creative strategies of Volodymyr Samiylenko as a translator was carried on the base of the contemporary recollections. It was demonstrated, that these strategies were free of any dogmatism and directed to the most positive reader’s response. The translation works by Samiylenko were examined in the context of the nation shaping process of the late 19th – early 20th century. An attempt to deconstruct the myth of Samiyelko as of completely spontaneous and maladjusted to real life author is performed; the myth, which originates from the writer’s lifetime, correlates in many aspects with a later similar myth about another prominent Ukrainian translator, Mykola Lukash.
The essay offers comparative analysis of two epitaphs – one written in 1616 by English poet Ben Jonson and dedicated to his late daughter and son, and the epitaph written in the middle of the 17th century and dedicated to 12 year old late Ferah Sultan, daughter of Crimean Khan Islam Geray III. It is demonstrated that despite all the differences the two poems, the English and Crimean Tatar one, are similar in many aspects: poets support themselves with a thought that child’s death in reality is a benefi t, since it gives children a way to better, eternal worlds, and allows them to avoid misfortunes. In both cases poets continue a tradition of late Roman epitaph.
