    Primary uncleansed 2D versus primary electronically cleansed 3D in limited bowel preparation CT-colonography. Is there a difference for novices and experienced readers?

    The purpose of this study was to compare a primary uncleansed 2D and a primary electronically cleansed 3D reading strategy in CTC in limited prepped patients. Seventy-two patients received a low-fibre diet with oral iodine before CT-colonography. Six novices and two experienced observers reviewed both cleansed and uncleansed examinations in randomized order. Mean per-polyp sensitivity was compared between the methods by using generalized estimating equations. Mean per-patient sensitivity, and specificity were compared using the McNemar test. Results were stratified for experience (experienced observers versus novice observers). Mean per-polyp sensitivity for polyps 6 mm or larger was significantly higher for novices using cleansed 3D (65%; 95%CI 57–73%) compared with uncleansed 2D (51%; 95%CI 44–59%). For experienced observers there was no significant difference. Mean per-patient sensitivity for polyps 6 mm or larger was significantly higher for novices as well: respectively 75% (95%CI 70–80%) versus 64% (95%CI 59–70%). For experienced observers there was no statistically significant difference. Specificity for both novices and experienced observers was not significantly different. For novices primary electronically cleansed 3D is better for polyp detection than primary uncleansed 2D

    Questions we care about (objectives) This study contributes to the body of knowledge of entrepreneurial educators’ strategies to work towards gender inclusion in entrepreneurial education (EE). By illustrating how gender stereotypes and gender bias are constructed and reconstructed in EE. An important insight is taken from the study by (Jones, 2014), this author shows that entrepreneurs are presented in EE as a homogeneous group with similar character traits and an equal 'entrepreneurial mindset' (p. 244). This description portraits a right way to be an entrepreneur which is traditionally been associated with a white western man, masculine behaviour and masculine abilities (Jones, 2014). As a consequence, a paradox in EE appears; training and education reduces the gender gap on the one hand (Cheraghi and Schøtt, 2015), but at the same time it is also the place where the gender gap is maintained because these gender stereotypes are intertwined in this training and education (Korhonen, Komulainen and Räty, 2012). The aim of this paper is to use Social Role Theory in order to better understand the dynamics of gender in EE. This leads to the following research questions: what are the main mechanisms that contribute to gender-inclusive entrepreneurship education (EE) and how are the different mechanisms that contribute to gender inclusive entrepreneurship education (EE) integrated into the current curriculum?Approach In-depth interviews with 12 lecturers that teach/coach in the field of EE from across various faculties in a large University for Applied Sciences combined with newsletters created by one of largest EE programs at this institution (267 pages in 2020) is carried out. A semi-structured questionnaire was used to guide the in-depth interviews. Subsequently, discourse analysis gives insight into gendering in EE at the investigated institution. Results The main findings suggests that when questioned about the topic all respondents stressed the importance of gender equally, only a few seem to be aware of the need to address the issue in their classroom(s) while none of the programs currently adopt a gender perspective while coaching their potential entrepreneurs or when addressing how the entrepreneurial ecosystem functions. Implications These findings and perspectives point to the importance of recognizing that a “one size fits all” approach to curricula may not be appropriate, and that gender-sensitive programming, especially related to dealing with these gender stereotypes and gender bias, are needed. This means that in educational development there are opportunities to create better education and create equal opportunities for male and female students. Value/originalityWomen still form the minority amongst the population of (potential) entrepreneurs and find it more difficult to grow their venture due to a range of (institutional) barriers. This study shows that, thus far, EE insufficiently addresses this topic and points to opportunities for interventions for increasing the gender inclusiveness of the entrepreneurial ecosystem, especially for female ones, instilling in them the awareness and knowledge that as a female entrepreneur starting a business isn’t without gendered challenges. This research therefore adds to the body of knowledge on the construction and reconstruction of gender stereotypes and gender bias in the field of EE

    Prognostic value of cardiovascular parameters in computed tomography pulmonary angiography in patients with acute pulmonary embolism

    The value of various computed tomography parameters for prognosis and risk stratification in acute pulmonary embolism is controversial. Our objective was to evaluate the impact of specific cardiovascular computed tomography pulmonary angiography parameters on short- and long-term clinical outcomes. We analysed radiological and clinical data of 1950 patients with acute pulmonary embolism who participated in an international randomised clinical trial on anticoagulants. Parameters included right/left ventricular ratio, septal bowing, cardiothoracic ratio, diameters of pulmonary trunk and aorta, and intrahepatic/azygos vein contrast medium backflow. Associations with mortality, recurrent venous thromboembolism (VTE), hospitalisation, bleeding and adverse events were assessed over the short term (1 week and 1 month) and long term (12 months). Pulmonary trunk enlargement was the only parameter significantly associated with mortality over both the short and long term (OR 4.18 (95% CI 1.04-16.76) at 1 week to OR 2.33 (95% CI 1.36-3.97) after 1 year), as well as with recurrent VTE and hospitalisation. Most of the evaluated radiological parameters do not have strong effects on the short- or long-term outcome in patients with acute pulmonary embolism. Only an enlarged pulmonary trunk diameter carries an increased risk of mortality and recurrent VTE up to 12 months, and can be used for risk stratification

    The Position of Female Entrepreneurs and Women in Tech: A research aimed at identifying obstacles and opportunities for female entrepreneurs and women in tech in the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area

    English: In the Netherlands female entrepreneurs and women in tech have structurally less opportunities than men. The latest numbers from October 2020 show that only 1 percent of all venture capital went to female entrepreneurs. The percentage of non-white entrepreneurs that received financing is even below 1 percent. Remarkable numbers if we look at the demographics of the Dutch population and a clear signal that bias is a structural problem in financing start-ups. Additionally, there remains an underrepresentation of women at all levels in the tech industry. As part of the Rise project, this whitepaper will focus on the question ‘What needs to be done in the coming years to improve the position of female entrepreneurs and women in tech? Building on an expert session, a review of annual reports and a short survey amongst a selected group of support organizations, we focus on the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area (MRA) and show a clear trend towards ‘women only’ programs for female entrepreneurs and an increase in the support structures for female tech workers. In this report, the results of a baseline analysis for the state of the field for Female Entrepreneur and Women in Tech in the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area will be presented by the professorship of Entrepreneurship from the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (AUAS). -- Dutch: WOMEN Inc., HvA en We Rise hebben een rapport geschreven over de positie van vrouwelijke ondernemers en vrouwen die werken in de tech-sector.
