Semileptonic Lambda_b decay to excited Lambda_c baryons at order Lambda_{QCD}/m_Q
Exclusive semileptonic Lambda_b decays to excited charmed Lambda_c baryons
are investigated at order Lambda_{QCD}/m_Q in the heavy quark effective theory.
The differential decay rates are analyzed for the J^\pi=1/2^- Lambda_c(2593)
and the J^\pi=3/2^- \Lambda_c(2625). They receive 1/m_{c,b} corrections at zero
recoil that are determined by mass splittings and the leading order Isgur-Wise
function. With some assumptions, we find that the branching fraction for
Lambda_b decays to these states is 2.5-3.3%. The decay rate to the helicity \pm
3/2 states, which vanishes for m_Q \to \infty, remains small at order
Lambda_{QCD}/m_Q since 1/m_c corrections do not contribute. Matrix elements of
weak currents between a Lambda_b and other excited Lambda_c states are analyzed
at zero-recoil to order Lambda_{QCD}/m_Q. Applications to baryonic heavy quark
sum-rules are explored.Comment: 27 pages, 1 fig., minor changes, version to appear in Phys.Rev.
A Generalised Sidelobe Canceller Architecture Based on Oversampled Subband Decompositions
Adaptive broadband beamforming can be performed in oversampled subband signals, whereby an independent beamformer is operated in each frequency band. This has been shown to result in a considerably reduced computational complexity. In this paper, we primarily investigate the convergence behaviour of the generalised sidelobe canceller (GSC) based on normalised least mean squares algorithm (NLMS) when operated in subbands. The minimum mean squared error can be limited, amongst other factors, by the aliasing present in the subbands. With regard to convergence speed, there is strong indication that the subband-GSC converges faster than a fullband counterpart of similar modelling capabilities. Simulations are presented

Strength of the DTM RapidSteel 1.0 Material
This paper reports the results of a study into the strength of the DTM RapidSteel 1.0 material.
Elastic modulus and strength of the metal/copper composite material was investigated as a
function of the distance from the point of copper infiltration, the furnace cycle duration, and the
furnace type. The microstructure of the RapidSteel material was also examined in an attempt to
understand the science behind the infiltration process. The results have implications for the
design of tools to be made using the RapidTool process in situations where the tool will be used
as a production tool, rather than a prototype tool.Mechanical Engineerin
Gas sensing based on optical fibre coupled diode laser spectroscopy : a new approach to sensor systems for safety monitoring
We describe an entirely passive fibre optic network which senses, amongst other species, CH¬4¬ and CO¬¬2 , with sensitivity and selectivity compatible with safety sensing in the mine environment. The basic principle is that a single laser diode source targeted to a particular species addresses up to 200 sensing points which may be spread over an area of dimensions ten or more km. The detection and processing electronics is typically located with the laser source. Several laser sources can be introduced in parallel to enable monitoring multiple species. The network itself, entirely linked through optical fibre, is inherently intrinsically safe. It is self checking for faults at the sensing location and continuously self calibrating. In the methane sensing mode its sensitivity is sub 100ppm and it responds accurately up to 100% methane. It is therefore capable of detecting extremely hazardous gas pockets which are completely missed by other sensor technologies. The network has demonstrated stability with zero maintenance or recalibration over periods in excess of two years. We believe that this system offers unique benefits in the context of mine safety and ventilation system monitoring
Evaluating Dryland Crop/Livestock System Alternatives for Risk Management under Declining Irrigation in the Texas Panhandle
Production budgets for dryland crop and crop/livestock systems are developed to estimate yields, costs and returns for dryland wheat and sorghum and for alternative dryland crop/livestock systems. A crop simulation model aids yield estimation. The yield and return distributions are used to estimate risk and relative risk for included alternatives.Relative Risk, Ogallala Aquifer, Crop-Livestock Systems, Wheat, Sorghum, Crop Production/Industries, Farm Management, Livestock Production/Industries, Production Economics, Productivity Analysis,
Evidence for a parsec scale X-ray jet from the accreting neutron star Circinus X-1
We analyzed the zero-order image of a 50 ks Chandra gratings observation of
Circinus X-1, taken in 2005 during the source's low-flux state. Circinus X-1 is
an accreting neutron star that exhibits ultra-relativistic arcsecond-scale
radio jets and diffuse arcminute-scale radio jets and lobes. The image shows a
clear excess along the general direction of the north-western counter-jet,
coincident with the radio emission, suggesting that it originates either in the
jet itself or in the shock the jet is driving into its environment. This makes
Circinus X-1 the first neutron star for which an extended X-ray jet has been
detected. The kinetic jet power we infer is significantly larger than the
minimum power required for the jet to inflate the large scale radio nebula.Comment: Added journal reference, corrected on reference and typo in labels
