    The fear of being laughed at diagnostics: russian adaption of gelotophobia questionnair

    International review of gelotophobia (the fear of being laughed at) researches is presented. Russian-language adaptation of gelotophobia questionnaire is carried out (n = 216); its high reliability (α = 0,83) and one-factor structure were confi rmed. Gelotophobia intensity is shown to be independent of demographic variables (gender, age, marital status). The score of 7.41% of Russian subjects exceeded the threshold level, thus indicating the light degree of gelotophobia. Cross-cultural analysis indicated that occurrence of gelotophobia in Russia is lower than in German, higher than in Austria and close to those in China and Switzerland. Gelotophobia in citizens of towns with low population (Kostroma) is higher than in citizens of big ones (Moscow)

    Honor as a value in Finland, Estonia, Italy, Russia, and Switzerland

    Using the Schwartz Value Model as a basis, the meaning of the value item, honor (sense of honor) was explored in eight samples in Finland (N = 1877) and in five comparable samples of 15- to 17-year-old adolescents in Estonia, Finland, Italy, Russia, and Switzerland (N = 1788). In Finland, honor was a self-enhancement value in all age and occupational groups, although its importance varied widely. An identical pattern was found for Estonian adolescents, but for Swiss adolescents honor was both a selfenhancement and a conservation value and for Italian and Russian adolescents, a pure conservation value. Male adolescents had higher regard for honor than female adolescents in Finland, Russia, and Switzerland, but no sex differences were found in Estonia, Italy or in the Finnish adult samples. In all adolescent samples, honor was associated with work-related values (e.g., hard work, conscientiousness)

    Lupus nephritis (LN) is a serious complication for many patients who develop systemic lupus erythematosus, which primarily afflicts women. Our studies to identify biomarkers and the pathogenic mechanisms underlying LN will provide a better understanding of disease progression and sex bias, and lead to identification of additional potential therapeutic targets. The glycosphingolipid lactosylceramide (LacCer) and N-linked glycosylated proteins (N-glycans) were measured in urine and serum collected from LN and healthy control (HC) subjects (10 females and 10 males in each group). The sera from the LN and HC subjects were used to stimulate cytokine secretion and intracellular Ca2+ flux in female- and male-derived primary human renal mesangial cells (hRMCs). Significant differences were observed in the urine of LN patients compared to HCs. All major LacCers species were significantly elevated and differences between LN and HC were more pronounced in males. 72 individual N-glycans were altered in LN compared to HC and three N-glycans were significantly different between the sexes. In hRMCs, Ca2+ flux, but not cytokine secretion, was higher in response to LN sera compared to HC sera. Ca2+ flux, cytokine secretion, and glycosphingolipid levels were significantly higher in female-derived compared to male-derived hRMCs. Relative abundance of some LacCers and hexosylceramides were higher in female-derived compared to male-derived hRMCs. Urine LacCers and N-glycome could serve as definitive LN biomarkers and likely reflect renal disease activity. Despite higher sensitivity of female hRMCs, males may experience greater increases in LacCers, which may underscore worse disease in males.
