    La función del director de un centro escolar es una actividad de gran complejidad que en muchas ocasiones ha estado infravalorada o no suficientemente reglada y apoyada. Muestra de ello son las múltiples propuestas formativas impulsadas desde diferentes instituciones y administraciones públicas, tradicionalmente orientadas al colectivo docente, tanto en materia de formación inicial como de formación continua, y en menor medida dirigidas a la formación del director. Esta tendencia ha comenzado a modificarse en los últimos años, al reconocerse que los equipos directivos, especialmente los directores, se enfrentan diariamente a situaciones y dilemas que no son fáciles de resolver, y cuya respuesta no puede dejarse a la improvisación o la capacidad y habilidad individual de la persona

    Integration of sustainable development to higher education: Innovative practices between federal universities and Bank of Brazil with impact over associative and cooperative production

    Higher education incorporates growing responsibilities in the context of globalization of socio-economic-politico-cultural processes. The movement towards universalization of access to primary education in the planet, with growing registration in upper levels of basic education in differentiated regions of the globe, whereas entry into higher education is accelerated, poses new challenges to public power with a special emphasis in the systems of education, but with a special weight in higher education. Universities and other higher education institutions are given a double challenge. First, universities are faced with the challenge to build up strategies articulating modalities of education to allow a larger entry of students making sure that academic standards are maintained. Open and distance education taking into account the incorporation of new technologies of information and communication are relevant references for this challenge. Second, the emergence of new forms of higher education, such as corporative universities, community and third sector alternatives, electronic modalities, though not necessarily accredited academically, also poses the challenge to universities to rethink and to reposition themselves on new bases to society.Peer Reviewe

    As estatísticas oficiais do estado de Mato Grosso relativas ao ensino de 1º grau apresentam um quadro geral precário quanto ao rendimento escolar, evasão escolar e absorção da população em idade escolar. No entanto, trata-se de dados globais, trabalhados em termos de médias sociais sem qualquer diferenciação com relação à origem socioeconômica dos alunos. O presente estudo constitui um primeiro passo no sentido de superar esta limitação das estatísticas oficiais. A rede escolar do municíípio de Cuiabá foi dividida em três grandes categorias: estadual, municipal e particular. Os dados mostram ser a produtividade da escola particular bastante superior à da rede pública, sendo a menor a da rede municipal. Foram levantados alguns dados sobre a composição social das escolas públicas e este estudo se constitui num ponto de partida para um programa de pesquisa atualmente em desenvolvimento na periferia urbana de Cuiabá, capital do estado de Mato Grosso
