Propuesta de adquisición de publicaciones seriadas primarias españolas en el sector de la salud
Objetives: To make a proposal for the acquisition of the most important, uselful and valuable
Spanish serials to meet the needs of information of the health sector in Cuba, as well as to analyze the behavior of a set of select variables and and of some aspects connected with the validity of the means, model and techniques used in the study.
Method: 276 publications selected by random sample, starting from the papers processed in Medline from 1994-1996, were evaluated by a multidimensional model denominated Coefficient of Weighted Evaluation.
Results: 316 Spanish serial were identified in the health area. More than 40 % of them correspond to the clinical ans surgical category. Practically half fo titles considered appeared in Medline, Excerpta Médica Science Citation Index and Indice Médico Español. The "general and internal medicine" topic prevailed in the distribution of the sample select from Medline. More than 90 % of the papers are in Spanish. 108 publications exceeding the value of the mean in the distribution resulting from the application of the model of the evaluation used more selected. More than 70 % of these publications deal with the clinical and surgical topics, and, among them, more than 90 % of the titles that are processed by some of the international deatabases can be found. The proposal for acquisition comprised mor than 104 titles. 38 of them are sponsored by public organizations a condition that suggest their inclusion in the exchange-donation management of the National Center of Information on Medical Sciences, which is the head body of the National System of Information on Medical Science of Cuba. Only two of the publishing house, Garsi S. A. And Doyma S.A., produced more than 30 % of the serials proposed for acquisition. The reliability index of the Ulrich´s International Periodicals Directory, according to the scale of values created to measured the accuracy of the information it register, proved to be moderate.
Conclusions: The analysis made allowed to proposed the acquisition of a set of Spanish primary serials in the health area, to reveal some of the regularities of the behaviour of the flow studied. To identify the most frecuent entities and values, as well as to show the validity of the resources used
