Age Progression/Regression by Conditional Adversarial Autoencoder

"If I provide you a face image of mine (without telling you the actual age when I took the picture) and a large amount of face images that I crawled (containing labeled faces of different ages but not necessarily paired), can you show me what I would look like when I am 80 or what I was like when I was 5?" The answer is probably a "No." Most existing face aging works attempt to learn the transformation between age groups and thus would require the paired samples as well as the labeled query image. In this paper, we look at the problem from a generative modeling perspective such that no paired samples is required. In addition, given an unlabeled image, the generative model can directly produce the image with desired age attribute. We propose a conditional adversarial autoencoder (CAAE) that learns a face manifold, traversing on which smooth age progression and regression can be realized simultaneously. In CAAE, the face is first mapped to a latent vector through a convolutional encoder, and then the vector is projected to the face manifold conditional on age through a deconvolutional generator. The latent vector preserves personalized face features (i.e., personality) and the age condition controls progression vs. regression. Two adversarial networks are imposed on the encoder and generator, respectively, forcing to generate more photo-realistic faces. Experimental results demonstrate the appealing performance and flexibility of the proposed framework by comparing with the state-of-the-art and ground truth.Comment: Accepted by The IEEE Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition (CVPR 2017

The Motivation Theory of Life-Span Development and Its Implications for Career Education

Based on the Selective Optimization with Compensation (SOC) and control model, the Motivational Theory of Life-Span Development (MTLSD) proposes adaptive development criteria and objectives. It asserts that the pursuit of perpetual development is the primary control and that the life cycle is an action field with an opportunity and constraint structure of time organization. Opportunity is a process characterized by the change processes of escalating and waning and by the adaptation consistency processes of goal participation and goal separation. The MTLSD has endeavored to elucidate how people actively promote their own personal lifelong development throughout its entirety. This provides illumination for China’s career education. The importance of individual initiative in career development, the process of opportunity in the continuity of career education, the difference of career education in different career (major) life cycles, and the fairness of career education during the transitional period of social mobility (opportunity) must be emphasized

The Construction of Career Education in Senior High School under the Field Perspective

In the deep-seated transformation of senior high school education catalysed by the reform of the college entrance examination, the function of career education in senior high school has garnered attention. This paper examines career education in senior high school through the lens of Bourdieu's theory of the field. It is not only significant for theoretical reconstruction but also for re-understanding of methodology. It highlights the necessity of viewing the propelling role of capital and power, particularly cultural capital, from a relational perspective within its structural context. In addition, the process is examined in terms of the significance of the distinct habits that shaped its construction and practical logic. The career field in senior high school emphasize ‘value leadership’ and ‘personal growth’, moulding field habits through the interplay of relationships within the field and interactions with other fields, such as the ‘college field’ and the ‘workplace field’. This interaction contributes to the development of field behaviours and stimulates the psychological field's growth and transformation. It aids actors in generating their patterns of practice, thereby attaining the dual objectives of intellectual and social construction and development

Effects of different freshness on the quality of cooked tuna steak

peer-reviewedThe variation in quality of yellowfin tuna (Thunnus albacares) steaks of different freshness after cooking were studied by analyzing K value, adenosine triphosphate (ATP)-related compounds content, histamine content, sensory quality, E-nose and E-tongue analysis. The results indicated that when the freshness of raw tuna steak decreased from sashimi grade to cooking grade, IMP content significantly decreased whereas HxR content significantly increased after cooking. With the decrease of freshness, K value of the 4th day sashimi-grade tuna and the 6th day cooking-grade tuna increased from 18% and 24% to 27% and 45% respectively after cooking. The higher histamine content in raw tuna steak, the more significantly increased histamine level of cooked tuna was observed. Raw tuna steaks with sashimi grade have significant variation from those with cooking grade in odor and taste by E-nose and E-tongue analysis after cooking The sensory evaluation showed that the freshness of tuna steak significantly influence the cooking quality (p < 0.05)

Career adapt-ability scale -short form: Validation among early career stage of Chinese university graduates

The Career Adapt-Ability Scale (CAAS) is the favored method among researchers for measuring career adaptability. The 12-item version of CAAS-SF, which was made by Maggiori, Rossier, and Savickas based on a change to CAAS, has been slowly used by different groups in different countries and regions. As samples for the validation of the scale in this study, 571 Chinese university graduates in the early stages of their professions were chosen. Principal component analysis and confirmatory factor analysis suggest that CAAS-SF and CAAS have very similar psychological measurement features and factor structures. And the internal consistency of each subscale and total scale are equivalent to or greater than that of the CAAS assessment. These findings indicate that the CAAS-SF is a valid and reliable instrument for evaluating China’s career adaptability. In addition, limitations, issues for further research, and suggestions are emphasized
