    Sound collection and visualization system enabled participatory and opportunistic sensing approaches

    This paper presents a sound collection system to visualize environmental sounds that are collected using a crowd-sourcing approach. An analysis of physical features is generally used to analyze sound properties; however, human beings not only analyze but also emotionally connect to sounds. If we want to visualize the sounds according to the characteristics of the listener, we need to collect not only the raw sound, but also the subjective feelings associated with them. For this purpose, we developed a sound collection system using a crowdsourcing approach to collect physical sounds, their statistics, and subjective evaluations simultaneously. We then conducted a sound collection experiment using the developed system on ten participants.We collected 6,257 samples of equivalent loudness levels and their locations, and 516 samples of sounds and their locations. Subjective evaluations by the participants are also included in the data. Next, we tried to visualize the sound on a map. The loudness levels are visualized as a color map and the sounds are visualized as icons which indicate the sound type. Finally, we conducted a discrimination experiment on the sound to implement a function of automatic conversion from sounds to appropriate icons. The classifier is trained on the basis of the GMM-UBM (Gaussian Mixture Model and Universal Background Model) method. Experimental results show that the F-measure is 0.52 and the AUC is 0.79

    A PRIVACY MANAGEMENT ARCHITECTURE FOR PATIENT-CONTROLLED PERSONAL HEALTH RECORD SYSTEM

    Patient-controlled personal health record systems can help make health care safer, cheaper, and more convenient by facilitating patients to 1) grant any care provider access to their complete personal health records anytime from anywhere, 2) avoid repeated tests and 3) control their privacy transparently. In this paper, we present the architecture of our Privacy-aware Patient-controlled Personal Health Record (P3HR) system through which a patient can view her integrated health history, and share her health information transparently with others (e.g., healthcare providers). Access to the health information of a particular patient is completely controlled by that patient. We also carry out intuitive security and privacy analysis of the P3HR system architecture considering different types of security attacks. Finally, we describe a prototype implementation of the P3HR system that we developed reflecting the special view of Japanese society. The most important advantage of P3HR system over other existing systems is that most likely P3HR system provides complete privacy protection without losing data accuracy. Unlike traditional partially anonymous health records (e.g., using k-anonymity or l-diversity), the health records in P3HR are closer to complete anonymity, and yet preserve data accuracy. Our approach makes it very unlikely that patients could be identified by an attacker from their anonymous health records in the P3HR system

    Tag detection for preventing unauthorized face image processing

    A new technology is being proposed as a solution to the problem of unintentional facial detection and recognition in pictures in which the individuals appearing want to express their privacy preferences, through the use of different tags. The existing methods for face de-identification were mostly ad hoc solutions that only provided an absolute binary solution in a privacy context such as pixelation, or a bar mask. As the number and users of social networks are increasing, our preferences regarding our privacy may become more complex, leaving these absolute binary solutions as something obsolete. The proposed technology overcomes this problem by embedding information in a tag which will be placed close to the face without being disruptive. Through a decoding method the tag will provide the preferences that will be applied to the images in further stages

    Relation Between High-Frequency Properties and Direction of Anisotropy Magnetic Field in Magnetic Thin Film for RF Inductor Applications

    A relation between high-frequency properties, and angle theta of the easy axis in soft magnetic film and ac applied field was investigated in order to fabricate the film for RF spiral inductor without a localized EMI (Electro-Magnetic Interference). This relationship was measured using a soft CoFeSiO/SiO2 granular multilayer magnetic thin film and simulated by using LLG (Landau-Lifshitz-Gilbert) micromagnetic simulator. The measured and calculated frequency dependence of the film's complex relative permeability, mu(r)' and mu(r)'' compared well with 10% mean error. The real part of complex relative permeability mu(r)' was dependent on approximately sin(2) theta. The ferromagnetic resonance (FMR) frequency, f(r), and the FMR half-width, Delta f(r) were not dependent on the angle theta. They were estimated to be 2.54 GHz and 0.3 GHz, respectively.     Quantifying the appearance of jackets with adhesive interlinings

    Purpose - The purpose of this paper is to quantitatively evaluate the effect of adhesive interlining on the appearance of tailored jackets with different rigidity. Design/methodology/approach - Four tailored jackets having the same pattern and fabric and three different adhesive interlinings or no adhesive interlining were prepared as experimental samples. Criteria and characteristics for assessing jacket appearance were investigated in sensory tests. A paired comparison of the jacket appearance was conducted using a ranking method. Smoothness and constriction values were proposed and obtained using three-dimensional shape data. The smoothness value refers to the degree of wrinkling on the jacket surface and the constriction value refers to the degree of constriction of the waistline. A quantitative assessment model of jacket appearance was proposed using multiple regression analysis. Findings - The sensory test reveals that the number of wrinkles, acceptability of wrinkling and degree of constriction of the waist are important criteria in the assessment of jacket appearance. The smoothness value for the front body and the constriction value of the waist partially agreed with the normal scores of sensory test results. Sensory evaluation values for the entire jacket appearance were estimated employing multiple regression analysis with the constriction and smoothness values. The values of jacket appearance estimated using multiple regression analysis were in good agreement with the sensory test results. Originality/value - Criteria and characteristics to be used in the assessment of the appearance of a jacket with adhesive interlining were clarified.     Carbonyl-Iron/Epoxy Composite Magnetic Core for Planar Power Inductor Used in Package-Level Power Grid

    Our research objective is to realize the basic technology for a next generation package-level power grid (PLPG) for plural application large scale integrated circuits (LSIs). In this study, a carbonyl-iron powder (CIP)/epoxy composite magnetic core, for large-current power inductor used for the main dc-dc converter in the PLPG, has been fabricated and evaluated. 54 vol.%-CIP/epoxy composite core made by screen-printing had a relative permeability of 7.5 and loss tangent of about 0.03 at 100 MHz. The planar power inductor using composite core was fabricated and evaluated, which had a quasi closed magnetic circuit consisting of low permeability composite core and embedded 35-mu m-thick, two-turn copper spiral coil. The fabricated inductor with a 1-mm-square in size had 5.5 nH inductance, Q-factor of 15 at 100 MHz, and 18 m Omega dc coil resistance.     Characterization of Tunable Magnetic Sensor Using Bias Magnetic Field of a Hard Magnetic Film Magnetized by Pulsed-Magnetic Field

    A tunable magnetoresistance (MR) sensor with variable sensitivity and measuring range is fabricated and characterized. The sensor has been fabricated using a combination of Ni-Fe soft magnetic film, Fe-Co-Sm hard magnetic film. The sensor is placed in a magnetizing coil for the process of magnetizing the hard magnetic film. The sensitivity and the measuring range of the sensor are tuned by bias magnetic field produced by the magnetic poles of the hard magnetic film. The sensitivity change was about 60%, and the measuring range change was about 30% in the tunable MR sensor from the experimental results. The bias magnetic field is controlled by changing amplitude of the pulsed magnetic field in the magnetizing for the hard magnetic film.
