Adenine Abundance in a Collapsing Molecular Cloud
A vital ingredient of DNA molecule named adenine may be produced by
successive addition of HCN during molecular cloud collapse and star formation.
We compute its abundance in a collapsing cloud as a function of the reaction
rate and show that in much of the circumstances the resulting amount may be
sufficient to contaminate planets, comets and meteorites. We introduce a
-parameter which may be used to study the abundance where radiative

Model dependence of the multi-transonic behavior, stability properties and corresponding acoustic geometry for accretion onto a spinning black hole
Multi-transonic accretion for a spinning black hole has been compared among
different disc geometries within post Newtonian pseudo potential framework. The
variation of stationary shock characteristics with black hole spin has been
studied in details for all the disc models and compared for adiabatic as well
as for isothermal scenario. The variations of surface gravity with spin for all

Clinical profile of primary hyperparathyroidism in Northeast India: a single centre experience
Background: A retrospective study of the presentation of primary hyperparathyroidism was done at a tertiary care centre in northeast India and was compared with variable features in other parts in India and worldwide.Methods: The clinical presentation, biochemical parameters, radiological and histopathology findings of 27 subjects of primary hyperparathyroidism who presented to us over a period of 5 years were retrospectively analysed. Chi-square test, student t test and 'one way ANOVA' were used to compare different variables. Statistical significance was set at p<0.05.Results: The age distribution ranged from as young as 13 years to 72 years (39±16.7). The male:female ratio was 1:1.25. The duration of symptoms at presentation ranged from 2 to 72 months (21.7±20.3). The most common presentation was bone pain in 59.2% of cases, followed by proximal myopathy (48.1%), fatigue (44.4%), abdominal pain (44.4%), constipation (11.1%), hypertension (18.5%), palpable neck swelling (22.2%), limb deformity (22.2%) and fracture (14.8%). The mean serum calcium was 12.2±0.87mg/dl. Parathyroid adenoma was localized radiologically in all patients and single adenoma was the most common cause in 96.3%. Left inferior parathyroid adenoma was the most common site of involvement in 51.8%.Conclusions: Hyperparathyroidism at our centre in northeast India has a classic symptomatic presentation with severe bone and renal involvement and younger age at diagnosis, and equal gender distribution
Always, better and control - vital, essential, desirable matrix analysis of the drug store of a tertiary care teaching hospital of North India
Background: Substantial improvement can be brought about in the hospital inventory and drug expenditure by inventory control techniques. These include ABC (always, better and control), VED (vital, essential and desirable) and ABC-VED matrix analysis. The objective of the study was to categorize the drugs based on cost and criticality and identify those which require stringent managerial control.Methods: ABC analysis according to drug expenditure, VED analysis according to criticality of the drugs, ABC-VED matrix analysis to classify drugs into category I, II and III was done for drug store of a tertiary care teaching hospital of North India for the period of April, 2018 to March, 2019.Results: The total number of the drug items used by the drug store was 315. The total drug expenditure was Rs. 9,61,29,859. By ABC analysis, it was found that 15.24%, 22.54% and 62.22% items belonged to A, B and C category respectively, accounting for 70%, 20% and 10% of Annual Drug Expenditure (ADE). VED analysis showed that 31.11%, 60.32% and 8.57% were V, E, and D category items respectively, accounting for 30.44%, 57.12% and 12.44% of ADE. By ABC-VED matrix analysis, 42.86%, 52.38% and 4.76% items were category I, II and III items respectively, accounting for 78.91%, 20.15% and 0.94% of ADE.Conclusions: The study depicted the items belonging to category I which requires top managerial control, also the items belonging to categories II and III which require control by middle and lower managerial level respectively
