Somerset Aggregates Lithics Assessment

The Somerset Aggregates Lithics Assessment (SALSA) was commissioned by English Heritage in 2007 and was funded by the Aggregates Levy Sustainability Fund (ALSF). The project examined the lithic (flint and chert) collections recovered from the most significant aggregate areas of Somerset, on the Mendip plateaux and the Burtle Beds of the Somerset Levels. It provides a rapid assessment of the extent, date and character of the collections and their suitability for further analysis

Chewton Mendip, Somerset: Historic Turnpike Wall Restoration Project

The Chewton Mendip Turnpike Wall Restoration Project was undertaken to improve the condition and safety of walls on the section of the A39 between Chewton Mendip and Bathway. The project was a Somerset County Council (SCC) initiaitive with backing from the Countryside Agency, Mendip Hills AONB, Somerset Highways, Waldegrave Estates and English Heritage via the Aggregates Levy Sustainability Fund (ALSF). The digital archive consists of the final summary report detailing the aims and outcomes of the restoration work

The Aggregate Landscape of Somerset: Predicting the Archaeological Resource was commissioned by English Heritage in 2005 and represents a survey of the archaeological resource of the aggregate mineral producing areas within the County of Somerset. The project was funded through the Aggregates Levy Sustainability Fund (ALSF), which was introduced in 2002 to attend to issues arising from the extraction of aggregates
