Radiation comb generation with extended Josephson junctions
We propose the implementation of a Josephson radiation comb generator (JRCG)
based on an extended Josephson junction subject to a time dependent magnetic
field. The junction critical current shows known diffraction patterns and
determines the position of the critical nodes when it vanishes. When the
magnetic flux passes through one of such critical nodes, the superconducting
phase must undergo a -jump to minimize the Josephson energy.
Correspondingly a voltage pulse is generated at the extremes of the junction.
Under periodic driving this allows us to produce a comb-like voltage pulses
sequence. In the frequency domain it is possible to generate up to hundreds of
harmonics of the fundamental driving frequency, thus mimicking the frequency
comb used in optics and metrology. We discuss several implementations through a
rectangular, cylindrical and annular junction geometries, allowing us to
generate different radiation spectra and to produce an output power up to
~pW at ~GHz for a driving frequency of ~MHz.Comment: 4+ pages, 4 color figure
Photonic heat conduction in Josephson-coupled Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer superconductors
We investigate the photon-mediated heat flow between two Josephson-coupled
Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer (BCS) superconductors. We demonstrate that in
standard low temperature experiments involving temperature-biased
superconducting quantum interference devices (SQUIDs), this radiative
contribution is negligible if compared to the direct galvanic one, but it
largely exceeds the heat exchanged between electrons and the lattice phonons.
The corresponding thermal conductance is found to be several orders of
magnitude smaller, for real experiments setup parameters, than the universal
quantum of thermal conductance, kappa_0(T)=pi k_B^2T/6hbar.Comment: 8 pages, 6 figure
Conservation law of operator current in open quantum systems
We derive a fundamental conservation law of operator current for master
equations describing reduced quantum systems. If this law is broken, the
temporal integral of the current operator of an arbitrary system observable
does not yield in general the change of that observable in the evolution. We
study Lindblad-type master equations as examples and prove that the application
of the secular approximation during their derivation results in a violation of
the conservation law. We show that generally any violation of the law leads to
artificial corrections to the complete quantum dynamics, thus questioning the
accuracy of the particular master equation.Comment: 5 pages, final versio
Environment-Governed Dynamics in Driven Quantum Systems
We show that the dynamics of a driven quantum system weakly coupled to the environment can exhibit two distinct regimes. While the relaxation basis is usually determined by the system+drive Hamiltonian (system-governed dynamics), we find that under certain conditions it is determined by specific features of the environment, such as, the form of the coupling operator (environment-governed dynamics). We provide an effective coupling parameter describing the transition between the two regimes and discuss how to observe the transition in a superconducting charge pump.Peer reviewe
Impact of pulsed-wave-Doppler velocity-envelope tracing techniques on classification of complete fetal cardiac cycles
Fetal echocardiography is an operator-dependent examination technique requiring a high level of expertise. Pulsed-wave Doppler (PWD) is often used as a reference for the mechanical activity of the heart, from which several quantitative parameters can be extracted. These aspects suggest the development of software tools that can reliably identify complete and clinically meaningful fetal cardiac cycles that can enable their automatic measurement. Several scientific works have addressed the tracing of the PWD velocity envelope. In this work, we assess the different steps involved in the signal processing chains that enable PWD envelope tracing. We apply a supervised classifier trained on envelopes traced by different signal processing chains for distinguishing complete and measurable PWD heartbeats from incomplete or malformed ones, which makes it possible to determine the impact of each of the different processing steps on the detection accuracy. In this study, we collected 43 images and labeled 174,319 PWD segments from 25 pregnant women volunteers. By considering seven envelope tracing techniques and the 23 different processing steps involved in their implementation, the results of our study reveal that, compared to the steps investigated in most other works, those that achieve binarisation and envelope extraction are significantly more important (p < 0.05). The best approaches among those studied enabled greater than 98% accuracy on our large manually annotated dataset
Molecular cloning, expression analysis and assignment of the porcine tumor necrosis factor superfamily member 10 gene (TNFSF10) to SSC13q34 -> q36 by fluorescence in situ hybridization and radiation hybrid mapping
We have cloned the complete coding region of the porcine TNFSF10 gene. The porcine TNFSF10 cDNA has an ORF of 870 nucleotides and shares 85 % identity with human TNFSF10, and 75% and 72% identity with rat and mouse Tnfsf10 coding sequences, respectively. The deduced porcine TNFSF10 protein consists of 289 amino acids with the calculated molecular mass of 33.5 kDa and a predicted pI of 8.15. The amino acid sequence similarities correspond to 86, 72 and 70% when compared with human, rat and mouse sequences, respectively. Nor-them blot analysis detected TNFSF10-specific transcripts (similar to 1.7 kb) in various organs of a 10-week-old pig, suggesting ubiquitous expression. Real-time RT-PCR studies of various organs from fetal (days 73 and 98) and postnatal stages (two weeks, eight months) demonstrated developmental and tissue-specific regulation of TNFSF10 mRNA abundance. The chromosomal location of the porcine TNFSF10 gene was determined by FISH of a specific BAC clone to metaphase chromosomes. This TNFSF10 BAC clone has been assigned to SSC13q34 -> q36. Additionally, the localization of the TNFSF10 gene was verified by RH mapping on the porcine IMpRH panel. Copyright (c) 2005S. KargerAG, Basel
Testing Hardy nonlocality proof with genuine energy-time entanglement
We show two experimental realizations of Hardy ladder test of quantum
nonlocality using energy-time correlated photons, following the scheme proposed
by A. Cabello \emph{et al.} [Phys. Rev. Lett. \textbf{102}, 040401 (2009)].
Unlike, previous energy-time Bell experiments, these tests require precise
tailored nonmaximally entangled states. One of them is equivalent to the
two-setting two-outcome Bell test requiring a minimum detection efficiency. The
reported experiments are still affected by the locality and detection
loopholes, but are free of the post-selection loophole of previous energy-time
and time-bin Bell tests.Comment: 5 pages, revtex4, 6 figure
