    Phenotypical Characteristics of the Biological Properties of Staphylococci Withdrawn From Patients with Allergic Dermatitis

    Atopic dermatitis, eczema, allergic dermatitis occupy the main place among dermatoses, where the allergic component is leading in the onset and development of the disease. The most common complication of allergic dermatitis is the attachment of a secondary pyococcus infection, which is associated with a decrease in the antimicrobial resistance of the skin surface. Therapy of infectious lesions is complicated by the increasing resistance of the main pathogens of pyoderma - Staphylococcus aureus and Staphylococcus epidermidis - to widely used antibiotics.The aim of the research: to determine the phenotypic features of staphylococci extracted from patients with allergic dermatitis to assess their pathogenic potential.Materials and methods. The object of the study was 369 staphylococcus isolates removed from affected and intact skin sections of patients with allergic dermatitis, as well as from representative skin sections of healthy individuals undergoing inpatient treatment at the Department of Dermatology of “Institute of Dermatology and Venereology of NAMS of Ukraine”. Biochemical identification and biological properties of staphylococci were determined using methods of classical bacteriology.Results. As a result of the conducted researches, it is established that the complex of phenotypic traits of the removed staphylococcus cultures indicates the presence in the pathogen of factors related to the resistance of the host protection mechanisms and determines the intensity of the alterative action of the infectant in relation to the host organism, the phenotypic manifestation of the studied factors was higher in the staphylococcus isolates removed from the affected skin areas of patients with allergic dermatitis. Conclusions. The level and frequency of phenotypic expression of pathogenicity factors are more pronounced in microorganisms obtained from patients from affected and intact areas compared to controls, which confirms their pathogenetic role in the burden of the disease, which in turn can be used as an auxiliary differential diagnosis criterion

    Research of Certain Pathogenic Characteristics of Clinical Isolates of Staphylococci of Skin Biome

    A serious problem in patients with atopic dermatitis (AD) is the frequent attachment of a secondary skin infection. Among the microbes colonizing the skin of patients suffering from AD, S. aureus takes the lead. According to different authors, from the skin of 80–95 % of patients are sown Staphylococcus aureus. The survival of bacteria in a biotope is promoted by the persistent properties of microorganisms.Aim of the research: to determine the adhesive properties and antilysozyme activity of clinical strains of staphylococci isolated from the skin of patients with allergic dermatosis.The study included 50 patients with atopic dermatitis and 20 practically healthy individuals, from which 140 laboratory strains of staphylococci were isolated: 101 strains from patients with AD and 39 control strains. Bacteriological studies to isolate microorganisms and determine a number of pathogenic characteristics were carried out using the methods of classical bacteriology.The severity of antilysozyme activity (ALA) and adhesive properties of strains isolated from affected areas of the skin was significantly higher than in cultures isolated from intact skin areas, both qualitatively and quantitatively. The obtained data made it possible to assume a certain complicating role of these factors on the course of AD

    Computer simulation of crystallization kinetics with non-Poisson distributed nuclei

    The influence of non-uniform distribution of nuclei on crystallization kinetics of amorphous materials is investigated. This case cannot be described by the well-known Johnson-Mehl-Avrami (JMA) equation, which is only valid under the assumption of a spatially homogeneous nucleation probability. The results of computer simulations of crystallization kinetics with nuclei distributed according to a cluster and a hardcore distribution are compared with JMA kinetics. The effects of the different distributions on the so-called Avrami exponent nn are shown. Furthermore, we calculate the small-angle scattering curves of the simulated structures which can be used to distinguish experimentally between the three nucleation models under consideration.Comment: 14 pages including 7 postscript figures, uses epsf.sty and ioplppt.st

    Sensitivity analysis and variance reduction in a stochastic NDT problem

    In this paper, we present a framework to deal with uncertainty quantification in case where the ranges of variability of the random parameters are ill-known. Namely the physical properties of the corrosion product (magnetite) which frequently clogs the tube support plate of steam generator, which is inaccessible in nuclear power plants. The methodology is based on Polynomial Chaos (PC) for the direct approach and on Bayesian inference for the inverse approach. The direct Non-Intrusive Spectral Projection (NISP) method is first employed by considering prior probability densities and therefore constructing a PC surrogate model of the large-scale NDT finite element model. To face the prohibitive computational cost underlying the high dimensional random space, an adaptive sparse grid technique is applied on NISP resulting in drastic time reduction. The PC surrogate model, with reduced dimensionality, is used as a forward model in the Bayesian procedure. The posterior probability densities are then identified by inferring from few noisy experimental data. We demonstrate effectiveness of the approach by identifying the most influential parameter in the clogging detection as well as a variability range reduction

    Sensitivity analysis methods for uncertainty budgeting in system design

    Quantification and management of uncertainty are critical in the design of engineering systems, especially in the early stages of conceptual design. This paper presents an approach to defining budgets on the acceptable levels of uncertainty in design quantities of interest, such as the allowable risk in not meeting a critical design constraint and the allowable deviation in a system performance metric. A sensitivity-based method analyzes the effects of design decisions on satisfying those budgets, and a multi-objective optimization formulation permits the designer to explore the tradespace of uncertainty reduction activities while also accounting for a cost budget. For models that are computationally costly to evaluate, a surrogate modeling approach based on high dimensional model representation (HDMR) achieves efficient computation of the sensitivities.     Multidimensional Quasi-Monte Carlo Malliavin Greeks

    We investigate the use of Malliavin calculus in order to calculate the Greeks of multidimensional complex path-dependent options by simulation. For this purpose, we extend the formulas employed by Montero and Kohatsu-Higa to the multidimensional case. The multidimensional setting shows the convenience of the Malliavin Calculus approach over different techniques that have been previously proposed. Indeed, these techniques may be computationally expensive and do not provide flexibility for variance reduction. In contrast, the Malliavin approach exhibits a higher flexibility by providing a class of functions that return the same expected value (the Greek) with different accuracies. This versatility for variance reduction is not possible without the use of the generalized integral by part formula of Malliavin Calculus. In the multidimensional context, we find convenient formulas that permit to improve the localization technique, introduced in Fourni\'e et al and reduce both the computational cost and the variance. Moreover, we show that the parameters employed for variance reduction can be obtained \textit{on the flight} in the simulation. We illustrate the efficiency of the proposed procedures, coupled with the enhanced version of Quasi-Monte Carlo simulations as discussed in Sabino, for the numerical estimation of the Deltas of call, digital Asian-style and Exotic basket options with a fixed and a floating strike price in a multidimensional Black-Scholes market.Comment: 22 pages, 6 figure

    Parental bonding and identity style as correlates of self-esteem among adult adoptees and nonadoptees

    Adult adoptees (n equals 100) and non-adoptees (n equals 100) were compared with regard to selfesteem, identity processing style, and parental bonding. While some differences were found with regard to self-esteem, maternal care, and maternal overprotection, these differences were qualified by reunion status such that only reunited adoptees differed significantly from nonadoptees. Moreover, hierarchical regression analyses indicated that parental bonding and identity processing style were more important than adoptive status per se in predicting self esteem. Implications for practitioners who work with adoptees are discussed
