Tourist victimization in and around the artificial environment
Despite a new emphasis on tourism and the resulting victimization of travelers to the artificial environments, such as those offered in Las Vegas and Orlando, little empirical research has been conducted to estimate the extent to which the traveler is victimized when in these different areas. Research reported in this paper is a result of a survey of travelers who were victimized in Southern Nevada, Clark County, during the summer of 1996; Information was gathered from questions which were asked on the survey and combined with data on the victim, which was taken off the victims\u27 original crime reports. This data provided insight on the victims\u27 opinions on how their victimization was handled, and also provided information about previous victimization in their own home town, which was combined with information on their age, race, gender, work status, and professional background

The value of play for conflict management: a case study
This is a case study of a conflict management intervention in two secondary schools in post-apartheid South Africa. The feature of the intervention that we examine is the use of play as an educational strategy. The literature attests that play can facilitate change by allowing learners freedom to change their behaviour and opportunities to explore their new identities. The context of the case revealed that conflicts had become deeply entrenched over time. The literature on conflict management suggests that such situations can change if approached in the right way. In the article we describe the intervention and evaluate it with the help of feedback received from participants and facilitators. In the evaluation we found that the participants were able to overcome prejudices and develop democratic approaches to conflict. The evaluation was repeated several months later, when it was found that the benefits of the workshop had been maintained, with the result that the participants were engaging in healthier relationships. Rural restorative agritecture: the case of Grassridge Farmstead in Brant County
This thesis investigates the relationship between architecture and agriculture, considering
that the two disciplines have frequently been unrelated. The emerging field called Rural
Design (Thorbeck 2012, Stringer 2018) shows the potential of the teachings of Restorative
Agritecture for reimagining the relation between agriculture and architecture. More
particularly this thesis explores restorative principles, and strategies of placemaking, to
revive abandoned farmsteads and create a sense of community, considering the case of
Grassridge Farmstead, situated in Brant County, Ontario. Combining an investigation on
the process of rural design with reflection on a collection of personal experiences, and a
careful material culture analysis of the existing site and its artifacts, three strategies were
developed – repair, reinvention, restorative – to design a cooperative community

Some Chemotherapeutic Studies
This thesis is primarily the account of two lengthy experiments. The first experiment is a long range one, in an attempt to set up criteria by which standard courses of treatment employed in early syphilis, might be assessed. It was also hoped that, thereby, arguments might be derived for the improvement of existing methods of therapy. It was felt that a considerable time was necessary for much criteria to be evolved. Accordingly, a standard method of treatment has been adopted, and the results obtained over a period of twelve years have been examined. This standard treatment was difficult to maintain in face of criticism, both from within, and from without, the department. It is hoped that the success of the change of methods of treatment advocated may be its justificaiton. No such homogenous long-range experiment has been met with in the literature. It is widely known that the problems related by the presence of late or chronic syphilis are of a totally different nature from those present in the early stages of disease. Accordingly, an analysis of the results achieved by the varied methods used in the tratment of latent syphilis and late muco-cutaneous syphilis has been incorporated. These sections, by themselves, may afford aid in the guidance of the tratment of such conditions. They will also serve to show up, in contrast, the very different questions raised by early syphilis, and it is hoped they will add force to the conclusions reached regarding the treatment of the early stages. In the course of years much experimental work has been done within these imposed limits. Such work has dealt with the problems raised by late syphilis, by intolerance, with the examination of new drugs designed to treat syphilis, and with many clinical side tracks which proved attractive. Thy are dealt with in the investigation of new drugs designed for the treatment of syphilis is incorporated. No such detailed instruction is found in the literature. The second experiment is concerned with the use of iodine in the treatment of syphilis. The lack of modern detailed clinical experiments led to the commencement of observations in 1923, and these have been continued for over nine years. The number of cases dealt with exceeds 1,750; the number of experiments exceeds 3,500. Complete protocols would make this thesis, already very lengthy, of an intolerable size. The methos of summary has therefore had to be employed, and the mass of observations is compressed into the limits of a single section
Manual of Accounts for Tennessee Municipalities
Proper municipal accounting is basic to efficient city administration. Hence, if good municipal government is to prevail, the accounting system must be so designed and operated as to produce the required fiscal information. For this reason the Municipal Technical Advisory Service is grateful for the opportunity to make available to municipal finance officers and other officials in Tennessee this publication, a Manual of Accounts. The manual is the first of a series of important technical publications in this field; two others now in preparation are scheduled for publication within the coming year
