An increase in under hydrostatic pressure in the superconducting doped topological insulator NbBiSe
We report an unexpected positive hydrostatic pressure derivative of the
superconducting transition temperature in the doped topological insulator \NBS
via SQUID magnetometry in pressures up to 0.6 GPa. This result is contrary
to reports on the homologues \CBS and \SBS where smooth suppression of is
observed. Our results are consistent with recent Ginzburg-Landau theory
predictions of a pressure-induced enhancement of in the nematic
multicomponent state proposed to explain observations of rotational
symmetry breaking in doped BiSe superconductors.Comment: 5 pages, 5 figure
Anomalous Magnetic Ordering in PrBa₂Cu₄O₈ and CmBa₂Cu₃O₇
A review of temperature-dependent magnetization data for nonsuperconducting PrBa2Cu4O8 and CmBa2Cu3O7 suggests that the failure of each to superconduct is related to the presence of Pr and Cm on their respective Ba sites. This defect is manifested, in each case, by short c-axis lattice parameters and anomalous high-temperature magnetic ordering which has been incorrectly attributed to ordering of the entire magnetic sublattice. Instead, it is shown that the anomalous high-temperature ordering as seen in the magnetization data is consistent with the ordering of magnetic ions substituted on the Ba site
Disorder raises the critical temperature of a cuprate superconductor
With the discovery of charge density waves (CDW) in most members of the
cuprate high temperature superconductors, the interplay between
superconductivity and CDW has become a key point in the debate on the origin of
high temperature superconductivity. Some experiments in cuprates point toward a
CDW state competing with superconductivity, but others raise the possibility of
a CDW-superconductivity intertwined order, or more elusive pair-density wave
(PDW). Here we have used proton irradiation to induce disorder in crystals of
LaBaCuO and observed a striking 50% increase of
accompanied by a suppression of the CDW. This is in clear
contradiction with the behaviour expected of a d-wave superconductor for which
both magnetic and non-magnetic defects should suppress . Our
results thus make an unambiguous case for the strong detrimental effect of the
CDW on bulk superconductivity in LaBaCuO. Using tunnel
diode oscillator (TDO) measurements, we find evidence for dynamic layer
decoupling in PDW phase. Our results establish irradiation-induced disorder as
a particularly relevant tuning parameter for the many families of
superconductors with coexisting density waves, which we demonstrate on
superconductors such as the dichalcogenides and LuIrSi.Comment: 10 pages, 7 figure
The Decomposition of YBa₂Cu₃O₇₋δ Doped into Ba₂YRuO₆
One of the persistent criticisms of claims for observation of superconductivity in Ba2YRu1−uCuuO6 (O6) is that the diamagnetism is actually due to the decomposition of the material into YBa2Cu3O7−delta and other phases. We report a series of experiments in which YBa2Cu3O7−delta is doped into Ba2YRuO6 and carried through a series of sintering steps which were followed by magnetization, neutron diffraction, and scanning electron microscopy/microprobe measurements. It was found that the dopant YBa2Cu3O7−delta decomposed and failed to reform with cooling. It is concluded that the O6 phase is the stable high-temperature phase. The Cu released from the Y123 decomposition doped the host Ba2YRuO6, in partial substitution for Ru. This doping resulted in a small diamagnetic response with an onset temperature of ~84 K
Full superconducting gap in the candidate topological superconductor InPbTe for x = 0.2
High-pressure synthesis techniques have allowed for the growth of samples on
the indium-rich side of (Pb,In)Te, which have increased superconducting
transition temperatures compared to lead-rich compounds. In this study we
present measurements of the temperature dependence of the London penetration
depth in the compound InPbTe, which shows a
bulk of K. The results indicate fully gapped BCS-like
behavior, ruling out odd-parity, topologically nontrivial pairing;
however, odd-parity pairing is still possible. Critical field values
measured below 1 K and other superconducting parameters are also presented.Comment: 8 pages, 9 figure
