An analysis of the external-market prices of antimony from the viewpoint of shutting down the exploitation of antimony deposits in the area of West Carpathians

    No full text
On the evidence of general knowledge about exploiting deposits of antimony ores in the field of West Carpathian Mountains but also of a brief evaluation of the commodity´s world production and the analysis of its prices, a recent view of fast, often rash, process of damping and liquidation of this mineral raw material in Slovakia is outlined in the paper. Restructuring our national economy in newly-created conditions of the so-called market economy at the beginning of nineties, exploitation and processing of inland antimony ores were re-evaluated under the influence of short-term evaluation of the antimony´s external-price development, just coming to a crisis. Consequently, due to the continuously reducting appropriation, the ores were considered unexploitable. In such a way, they were liquidated and the next verification of their reserves by geological prospecting stopped. Just the period of the interruption of exploiting and prospecting Sb-deposits should be used for a theoretical treatment of documents that could elucidate the problem of the role of Sb-deposits in the metallogenesis of West Carpathians but also of their further perspective and possible utilization in future

RE-EVALUATION OF THE EXISTING DATABASE ON THE DÚBRAVA MASSIF MAGNESITE DEPOSIT SURVEY RESULTS

In the paper, the results of mathematical and statistical methods and related graphical outputs, ap-plied on the magnesite deposit at the Dúbrava massif, are presented. As input data were used the previous un-systematic and of purpose database performed during geological survey. The new systematic database con-cerns the bulk chemical composition of carbonate bodies and the distribution of effective constituent of MgO and some undesirable components, such as CaO, SiO2, Fe2O3, Al2O3 which are very important for the magnesite deposit

From the Herľany geyser to prove sources of geothermal potential in the Košice basin

Slovakia is a watering place known in the past. A little but very benefit spa lies near the village Herľany below the foothil of the western slopes of the Slanské vrchy Mts. When mineral springs were not able to cover the consumption of the mineral waters in 1870 a well resulting in nowadays unique „ Herľany geyser“ was drilled by Viliam Zsigmondy. In the second half of the 20th century a geological prospecting on oil and natural gas realised in the Košice basin and East Slovakian Neogene basin was. Based on the results, of prospecting structural boreholes, aimed at hydrocarbon prospection, geophysical inestigation and hydrogeological investigation a geothermal potential of this part of the area was confirmed. The geothermal boreholes (GTD-1, GTD-2 and GTD-3) were drilled after 30 years after it. The results from these wells were very positive because the discharge reached 150 litres per second and the temperature of water was 126 °C on the borehole mouth. The time flies and the heasty attested geothermal source in the meantime isn´t utilized enough. The history as well as the today story is known but the perspective of this spring in the future is not clear. Possibilities of its exploitation as an alternative energy source are great but a grand investor is needed. Maybe, the EU-founds will be the only objective future for a prosperity of our followers

MODEL CALCULATION OF BLOCK RESERVE OF SIDERITE ORE DEPOSIT AT KOBELIAROVO, NEAR ROŽŇAVA (THE GEMERICUM)

In order to improve the present knowledge of the siderite ore deposit at Kobeliarovo, a computer technique and available software were used for basic parameters at V. and VI. horizons. The modeling used for individual parts as well as for all limited deposits made available to clear a distribution of effective and undesirable components and solved the problem regarding the reserve calculation, realized in the extracted block 65

Interdisciplinary Cooperation in the Exploration of appropriate sites for the Radioactive Waste Deposition

    No full text
The article deals with the interdisciplinary cooperation in the processes of exploration of appropriate sites for radioactive waste deposits. This work is based on trends in the environmental laws for radioactive wastes. For the exploration, a knowledge about the geological structures, properties of rocks and safety manipulation with radioactive wastes are necessary. The interdisciplinary cooperation is needed with geophysics to define the particularly hazardous areas of an earthquake shaking. In this article, a method of the seismic analysis by Ricker impuls and Gabor´s function are presented
