Synthesis and characterization of modified silica gel as an intermediate in the generation of gaseous standard mixtures
A possibility of extending analytical applications of chemically modified silica gels is described. This involves their utilization for the generation of gaseous standard mixtures consisting of methyl chloride as the analyte and nitrogen as a carrier gas to be used for the calibration of the GC-FID system. N-methylmorpholine was chemically bonded to the propylsilylated surface of silica gel forming chloride of an appropriate immobilized compound which, under certain conditions, undergoes thermal decomposition yielding a single, volatile component (methyl chloride). Such a method of generating specific amounts of a standard substance can be used both for a single point calibration and for checking the accuracy of an analytical instrument in a relatively wide measurement range. It was found that 3.40±0.081 mg of methyl chloride can be generated per 1 g of the modified gel
Biosimilar G-CSF versus filgrastim and lenograstim in healthy unrelated volunteer hematopoietic stem cell donors
The World Marrow Donor Organization recommends original granulocyte-colony stimulating factor (G-CSF) for the mobilization of stem cells in healthy unrelated hematopoietic stem cell donors. We report the comparison of a biosimilar G-CSF (Zarzio) with two original G-CSFs (filgrastim and lenograstim) in mobilization in unrelated donors. We included data of 313 consecutive donors who were mobilized during the period from October 2014 to March 2016 at the Medical University of Warsaw. The primary endpoints of this study were the efficiency of CD34+ cell mobilization to the circulation and results of the first apheresis. The mean daily dose of G-CSF was 9.1 μg/kg for lenograstim, 9.8 μg/kg for biosimilar filgrastim, and 9.3 μg/kg for filgrastim (p < 0.001). The mean CD34+ cell number per microliter in the blood before the first apheresis was 111 for lenograstim, 119 for biosimilar filgrastim, and 124 for filgrastim (p = 0.354); the mean difference was even less significant when comparing CD34+ number per dose of G-CSF per kilogram (p = 0.787). Target doses of CD34+ cells were reached with one apheresis in 87% donors mobilized with lenograstim and in 93% donors mobilized with original and biosimilar filgrastim (p = 0.005). The mobilized apheresis outcomes (mean number of CD34+ cells/kg of donor collected during the first apheresis) was similar with lenograstim, biosimilar filgrastim, and filgrastim: 6.2 × 10⁶, 7.6 × 10⁶, and 7.3 × 10⁶, respectively, p = 0.06. There was no mobilization failure in any of the donors. Biosimilar G-CSF is as effective in the mobilization of hematopoietic stem cells in unrelated donors as original G-CSFs. Small and clinically irrelevant differences seen in the study can be attributed to differences in G-CSF dose and collection-related factors. Active safety surveillance concurrent to clinical use and reporting to donor outcome registry (e.g., EBMT donor outcome registry or WMDA SEAR/SPEAR) might help to evaluate the possible short- and long-term complications of biosimilar G-CSF
Wpływ różnych dawek i form siarki na zawartość jej formoraz potasu przyswajalnego w glebie
High sulfur concentrations lead to soil acidification and, indirectly, to the mobilization
of phytotoxic compounds, including aluminum and selected trace elements. On the other
hand, sulfur deficiency decreases crop yield and quality. Previous studies investigating the
effect of sulfur on the available potassium content of soil delivered inconclusive results.
The aim of this study has been to determine the effect of increasing doses of sulfate
sulfur and elementary sulfur on the content of total sulfur, sulfate sulfur and available
potassium in soil samples collected at a depth of 0-40 and 40-80 cm. A three-year field
experiment was conducted on acid brown soil of the grain size distribution of heavy loamy
sand. The soil was acidic in reaction (pH1 mol KCl dm–3 of 5.30) and contained the following
concentrations of mineral nutrients: mineral nitrogen – 24.0, sulfate sulfur – 4.10, available
phosphorus – 34.5, available potassium – 110.0 mg kg–1 soil. Three sulfate sulfur
(S-SO4) and elementary sulfur (S-S0) fertilization levels were applied each year: S1 – 40,
S2 – 80 and S3 – 120 kg ha–1. In most cases, NPK+S fertilization, in particular the application
of 120 kg S ha–1, contributed to an increase in total sulfur concentrations in both
sampled soil horizons compared with the NPK treatment. Sulfate accumulation in the soil
increased over time, proportionally to the increasing rates of sulfur fertilizers. The effect
of elementary sulfur application on an increase in the S-SO4 content of the 0-40 cm soil
layer was noted in the third year of the study. During the three-year experimental period,
the application of both sulfur forms decreased the available potassium content of soil samples
collected at the depth of 0-40 cm in comparison with the NPK treatment. The available
potassium content of the 40-80 cm soil layer varied after sulfur fertilization. Sulfate sulfur
exerted a stronger effect than elementary sulfur on available potassium levels in the soil.Wysoka zawartość siarki w glebie powoduje jej zasiarczenie i zakwaszenie oraz pośrednio
uruchamia związki fitotoksyczne, szczególnie glin i niektóre pierwiastki śladowe.
przyswajalnego w poziomie gleby 0-40 i 40-80 cm. Trzyletnie doświadczenie polowe przeprowadzono
na glebie brunatnej kwaśnej, o składzie granulometrycznym piasku gliniastego
mocnego. Gleba przed założeniem doświadczenia charakteryzowała się odczynem kwaśnym
(pH 1 mol KCl dm–3 wynosiło 5,30), zawartość składników mineralnych wynosiła: azot
24,0, siarka siarczanowa 4,10, fosfor przyswajalny 34,5 i potas 110,0 mg kg–1 gleby. Corocznie
stosowano: S1 – 40, S2 – 80 i S3 – 120 kg ha–1 siarki siarczanowej (S-SO4) i elementarnej
(S-S0). Nawożenie NPK + S, szczególnie 120 kg S ha–1, spowodowało na ogół wzrost
zawartości siarki ogółem w obu poziomach gleby, w odniesieniu do obiektu NPK. Wraz ze
wzrostem dawek siarki i upływem czasu trwania doświadczenia następowało nagromadzenie
siarczanów w glebie. Wpływ nawożenia siarką elementarną na zwiększenie zawartości
S-SO4 w glebie, w poziomie 0-40 cm, uwidocznił się dopiero w trzecim roku. W okresie
trzech lat trwania doświadczenia dodatek obu form siarki spowodował na ogół zmniejszenie
zawartości potasu przyswajalnego w poziomie gleby 0-40 cm w porównaniu z obiektem
NPK. Po nawożeniu siarką, w warstwie gleby 40-80 cm, zmiany zawartości potasu przyswajanego
były nieregularne. Siarka siarczanowa oddziaływała silniej na zawartość potasu
przyswajalnego niż forma elementarna
Ocena wpływu form siarki na zmiany zawartości kadmu i niklu rozpuszczalnych w 1 mol dm –3 w glebie użytkowanej rolniczo
Heavy metal contamination of arable soils remains one of the world’s most serious
environmental problems. The mobility of heavy metals in soil is determined by soil condi-
tions, environmental factors and human activity. The immediate and residual effects of
sulfur fertilization on the concentrations of heavy metals in soil are an important conside-
ration when monitoring changes in environmental conditions in agricultural areas.
The objective of this study was to determine the effect of increasing doses of sulfate
and elemental sulfur on changes in the concentrations of cadmium and nickel
soluble in
1 mol HCl dm
–3
in soil samples collected at a depth of 0-40 and 40-80 cm. A three-year
field experiment was conducted on Dystric Cambisols (FAO) of the texture of heavy loamy
sand. Soil samples were collected from each plot, prior to the establishment of the trials,
after each harvest and before sowing the consecutive crop. The soil samples were used to
determine the concentrations of Cd and Ni in soil (extractions with 1 mol HCl dm
–3
, the
ratio between soil and extraction - 1:10) by the AAS method using a Schimadzu AA apparatus.
Irregular changes in soluble cadmium concentrations were observed in soil fertilized
with sulfate and elemental sulfur. No distinct trends were noticed in response to sulfate
and elemental sulfur fertilization. The effect of sulfur was noticeable only in the third year
of the experiment. Sulfur application contributed to a decrease in the soluble nickel content of soil. Sulfate and elemental sulfur fertilization did not increase the levels of cadmium and nickel soluble in 1 mol HCl dm
–3
. The soil can be used for growing high-quality
horticultural and agricultural crops safe for human consumption
Wpływ różnych dawek i form siarki na zawartość przyswajalnego fosforu w glebie
A three-year field experiment was conducted in Byszwałd near Lubawa in 2000-2002.
The aim of this study has been to determine the influence of increasing rates of sulphur
on the dynamics of available phosphorus in soil at two horizons: 0-40 and 40-80 cm. The
trial was set up on acid brown soil of the granulometric composition of heavy loamy sand.
The initial soil had the following properties: pH(KCl) = 5.30, mineral nitrogen 24.0, sulphate
sulphur 4.10, available phosphorus 34.5 and potassium 110.0 mg kg-1 of soil.
Three levels of sulphur fertilization were applied: 40, 80 and 120 kg⋅ha-1 in the sulphate
form (S-SO4) and as elementary sulphur (S-S0). During the whole duration of the
field trials, the results demonstrating the effect of fertilization with different forms and
rates of sulphur on the content and transfer of available phosphorus in soil were inconsistent.
Only the dose of 120 kg⋅ha-1 S-SO4 caused a significant increase in the concentration
of available sulphur in soil in the 0-40 and 40-80 cm layers. All the rates of elementary
sulphur as well as 40 and 80 kg⋅ha-1 sulphate sulphur caused little less but an increasing
tendency in the content of phosphorus in soil. The effect of elementary sulphur became
apparent as late as the third year of the trials. The effect of the doses of 40 and 80 kg⋅ha-1
of sulphur on properties of soil depended on the form of sulphur, duration of the experiment.W latach 2000-2002, w Byszwałdzie, w pobliżu Lubawy, przeprowadzono 3-letnie doświadczenie
polowe. W doświadczeniu badano wpływ nawożenia siarką na dynamikę przyswajalnego
fosforu w glebie w dwóch poziomach: 0-40 cm i 40-80 cm. Eksperyment założono
na glebie brunatnej, kwaśnej o składzie granulometrycznym piasku gliniastego mocnego.
Gleba wyjściowa miała następujące właściwości: pH(KCl)=5,30, azot mineralny 24,0, siarka
siarczanowa 4,10, przyswajalny fosfor 34,5, potas 110,0 mg⋅kg-1 gleby. Zastosowano 3 poziomy
nawożenia siarką: 40, 80 i 120 kg⋅ha-1 w formie siarczanowej (S-SO4) i elementarnej
zawartości przyswajalnego fosforu w glebie w warstwie 0-40 cm i 40-80 cm. Wszystkie dawki
Zmiany zawartości przyswajalnych form cynku i miedzi w glebie nawożonej siarką
The concentrations of available forms of trace elements in the soil are mostly determined
by their total content and soil processes. Soil organic matter and pH are the key
factors affecting the content and mobility of heavy metals in soil. According to many authors,
the toxicity of heavy metals and their availability to plants increase due to soil acidification
caused by sulfur deposition. The direct and residual effect of sulfur fertilization on
changes in the heavy metal content of soil has to be taken into account in environmental
analyses in agricultural areas, including environmental impact assessments and predictions.
The objective of this study was to determine the effect of increasing doses of sulfate and
elemental sulfur on changes in the concentrations of available zinc and copper in soil samples
collected at a depth of 0-40 and 40-80 cm. A three-year field experiment was conducted
on Dystric Cambisols (FAO), of the granulometric composition of heavy loamy sand.
Soil samples were collected from each plot, prior to the establishment of the trials, after
each harvest and before sowing the consecutive crop. The soil samples were used to determine
the concentrations: Zn and Cu in soil (extractions with 1 mol HCl dm–3, the ratio
between soil and extraction – 1:10) was determined by the AAS method using a Schimadzu
AA apparatus. The results of the yields and chemical analysis of soil were processed
statistically with the analysis of variance. The application of sulfate and elemental sulfur
decreased the zinc content of 0-40 and 40-80 cm soil layers, as compared with soil sampled
before the experiment. Sulfur fertilization had no effect on changes in copper concentrations
in both soil horizons. The sulfur doses applied in the experiment did not affect the
natural content of zinc and copper in the soil, and had no negative agricultural or environmental
impacts. Glebę do analiz chemicznych pobierano wiosną i jesienią. W próbkach glebowych oznaczono zawartość przyswajalnych form cynku i miedzi w wyciągu 1 mol HCl (stosunek gleby do roztworu ekstrakcyjnego wynosił 1:10) metodą absorpcyjnej spektrometrii atomowej. Wyniki analiz chemicznych gleby opracowano statystycznie metodą analizy wariancji. Po zastosowaniu siarki siarczanowej i elementarnej nastąpiło zmniejszenie zawartości Zn w glebie w poziomach 0-40 i 40-80 cm w porównaniu z glebą przed założeniem doświadczenia.
Dodatek siarki siarczanowej i zwiększonej dawki siarki elementarnej spowodował zwiększenie wymycia potasu z gleby. W porównaniu do siarki siarczanowej dodatek siarki elementarnej spowodował zmniejszenie wymycia magnezu z gleby.Influence of the sulphur addition on leaching of N-NH₄ , N-NO3, S-SO₄ , P-PO₄ , K, Mg, from soil columns was investigated in 56-days’ laboratory experiment. Ammonium nitrogen was leached from soil only in the small amount. In the object with elemental sulphur addition there was a tendency to decreasing of the ammonium outflow. In the sulphate sulphur fertilized objects, nitrates leaching level was higher than in non-fertilized variant, what was not observed in objects with elemental sulphur addition. Among the studied components, sulphates were quickest leached from soil. Highest sulphate concentrations were observed in 1 to 5-th percolates. Leaching of phosphates was the slowest. The presence of sulphur stimulated this process. Sulphates and higher dose of elemental sulphur intensified leaching of potassium. In comparison to sulphates addition of elemental sulphur, decreased magnesium leaching from the soil

Nitrogen, in particular nitrate nitrogen, is a mobile nutrient that can be readily dispersed

a depth of 0-40 and 40-80 cm. A three-year field experiment was conducted in Byszwałd
near Lubawa. The soil had acidic reaction (pH1 mol KCl dm–3 of 5.30) and contained the
following concentrations of mineral nutrients: mineral nitrogen – 24.0, sulfate sulfur – 4.10,
available phosphorus – 34.5, available potassium – 110.0 mg kg–1 soil. The experiment was
carried out in a randomized block design and comprised eight fertilization treatments in
four replications. Three sulfate sulfur (S-SO4
2–) and elementary sulfur (S-S0) fertilization
levels were applied: 40, 80 and 120 kg ha–1. The content of nitrate nitrogen (V) and ammonia
nitrogen (III) was determined in soil samples by the colorimetric method using phenoldisulfonic
acid and Nessler’s reagent, respectively. In most cases, increasing sulfur doses
caused an increase in the N-NH4
+ content of soil samples collected at a depth of
0-40 cm. The N-NH4
+ content of the 40-80 cm soil layer varied. NPK+S fertilization, in
particular the application of a single S-SO4
2– dose, contributed to an increase in N-NO3

concentrations in both sampled soil horizons in the majority of treatments, compared with
the NPK treatment.Azot, szczególnie forma azotanowa, należy do grupy tzw. pierwiastków mobilnych w glebie,

azotanowy (V) metodą kolorymetryczną z użyciem kwasu fenolodisulfonowego; azot amonowy
(III) metodą kolorymetryczną z zastosowaniem odczynnika Nesslera. W poziomie gleby
