SPATIAL-SPECTRAL FUZZY K-MEANS CLUSTERING FOR REMOTE SENSING IMAGE SEGMENTATION
Spectral clustering is a clustering method based on algebraic graph theory. The clustering effect by using spectral method depends heavily on the description of similarity between instances of the datasets. Althought, spectral clustering has been significant interest in recent times, but the raw spectral clustering is often based on Euclidean distance, but it is impossible to accurately reflect the complexity of the data. Despite having a well-defined mathematical framework, good performance and simplicity, it suffers from several drawbacks, such as it is unable to determine a reasonable cluster number, sensitive to initial condition and not robust to outliers. In this paper, we present a new approach named spatial-spectral fuzzy clustering which combines spectral clustering and fuzzy clustering with spatial information into a unified framework to solve these problems, the paper consists of three main steps: Step 1, calculate the spatial information value of the pixels, step 2 applies the spectral clustering algorithm to change the data space from the color space to the new space and step 3 clusters the data in new data space by fuzzy clustering algorithm. Experimental results on the remote sensing image were evaluated based on a number of indicators, such as IQI, MSE, DI and CSI, show that it can improve the clustering accuracy and avoid falling into local optimum.
Analysis and Simulation of MRC Diversity Reception in Correlated Composite Nakagami-Lognormal Fading Channels
The physical meaning of the composite Nakagami-lognormal fading model is not well understood by many researchers using the model. The signal power transfer and transform at the interface between the global lognormal shadowing sub-channels and the local Nakagami multipath sub-channels in the presence of correlation between these diversity sub-channels is rather complex. This is the main reason why a thorough analysis or a simulation model is absent to date for the case of correlated composite Nakagami-lognormal diversity channels. This paper presents a novel technique for the estimation of the probability density function (PDF) of the signal-to-noise (SNR) at the output of a maximum ratio combining (MRC) receiver operating in correlated composite diversity fading channels. The PDF is estimated using the recently proposed two-point lossless moment generating function (MGF) matching technique and a closed-form expression for the bit-error rate (BER) for QPSK signal is consequently presented using the Gauss-Hermite polynomial approximation. The paper also presents the complex Monte-Carlo simulation model for the MRC reception and BER counting in correlated composite Nakagami-lognormal fading channels
Investigation and establishment of rational geometric factors of die in the deep drawing without a blank holder
Deep drawing is an operation to transform flat or hollow blanks to create hollow parts of the required shape and size. Deep drawing is an essential operation in sheet-forming technology to manufacture hollow parts. These parts are commonly used in the automobile, aviation, and household appliances industries. To prevent wrinkles on the rim part, a blank holder will be used to compress and flatten the workpiece before the metal is pulled into the die by the punch. Deep drawing without using workpiece holding force is applied to form hollow parts with low depth. In this case, the mould has a simple structure, helping to reduce manufacturing time and costs and making it easier to maintain and repair. The radius of the die is an essential parameter in deep drawing; it greatly affects the quality of products (making wrinkles and tears). However, this study has shown that, in deep drawing without using a blank holder, the cone angle of the die α has a major influence on the quality of the body and rim of the products, such as the products may or may not have wrinkles, either being thinned or thickened. This cone angle also affects the drawing force. This study has determined that, with α>120°, wrinkling begins to appear in the part wall, and wrinkling tends to increase as the angle α increases. The cone angle of the die for quality products is in the range of 100°<α≤120°. The taper angle smaller than 120° simultaneously increases the quality of the products and the cost of manufacturing die, so the most optimal value is determined by simulation and experimental verification as α=120°. A hybrid interval type-2 semi-supervised possibilistic fuzzy c-means clustering and particle swarm optimization for satellite image analysis
Although satellite images can provide more information about the earth’s surface in a relatively short time and over a large scale, they are affected by observation conditions and the accuracy of the image acquisition equipment. The objects on the images are often not clear and uncertain, especially at their borders. The type-1 fuzzy set based fuzzy clustering technique allows each data pattern to belong to many different clusters through membership function (MF) values, which can handle data patterns with unclear and uncertain boundaries well. However, this technique is quite sensitive to noise, outliers, and limitations in handling uncertainties. To overcome these disadvantages, we propose a hybrid method encompassing interval type-2 semi-supervised possibilistic fuzzy c-means clustering (IT2SPFCM) and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) to form the proposed IT2SPFCM-PSO. We experimented on some satellite images to prove the effectiveness of the proposed method. Experimental results show that the IT2SPFCM-PSO algorithm gives accuracy from 98.8% to 99.39% and is higher than that of other matching algorithms including SFCM, SMKFCM, SIIT2FCM, PFCM, SPFCM-W, SPFCM-SS, and IT2SPFCM. Analysis of the results by indicators PC-I, CE-I, D-I, XB-I, t -I, and MSE also showed that the proposed method gives better results in most experiments
Randomized controlled trial of artesunate or artemether in Vietnamese adults with severe falciparum malaria
<p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Both artemether and artesunate have been shown to be superior to quinine for the treatment of severe falciparum malaria in Southeast Asian adults, although the magnitude of the superiority has been greater for artesunate than artemether. These two artemisinin derivatives had not been compared in a randomized trial.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>A randomized double blind trial in 370 adults with severe falciparum malaria; 186 received intramuscular artesunate (2.4 mg/kg immediately followed by 1.2 mg/kg at 12 hours then 24 hours then daily) and 184 received intramuscular artemether (3.6 mg per kilogram immediately followed by 1.8 mg per kilogram daily) was conducted in Viet Nam. Both drugs were given for a minimum of 72 hours.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>There were 13 deaths in the artesunate group (7 percent) and 24 in the artemether group (13 percent); P = 0.052; relative risk of death in the patients given artesunate, 0.54; (95 percent confidence interval 0.28-1.02). Parasitaemia declined more rapidly in the artesunate group. Both drugs were very well tolerated.</p> <p>Conclusions</p> <p>Intramuscular artesunate may be superior to intramuscular artemether for the treatment of severe malaria in adults.</p
Awareness And Risk Behaviors Towards Zoonotic Disease Among Ethnic Minority In Mountainous Area Of Central Vietnam
Background: As a result of the population explosion and rapid urbanization, human activities have been causing negative impacts on the environment. The changing patterns of transmissible diseases among wild animals, livestock and human have been getting more and more complicated in the context of climate change. Ethnic community from mountainous and isolated areas undoubtedly are the most vulnerable, with the high risk of emerging and re-emerging zoonosis. Objectives: To explore the awareness and risk behaviors of the residents in Nham commune, A Luoi district towards zoonosis transmission. To determine the factors related to the risk behaviors of the residents. Methods: A sectional-cross study was conducted among 230 residents whose ages range from 18 – 85, currently living in Nham commune, A Luoi district, adjacent to the Vietnam – Laos border. All participants were interviewed directly with a questionnaire including the following categories: demographics, household wealth, awareness of zoonosis, livestock management and behaviors related to wildlife animals. Descriptive analysis and multivariable logistic regression analysis were conducted to determine factors associated with risk behaviors. Results: The proportion of respondents who have heard about zoonotic diseases was 40%. The majority of subjects raise free-range livestock (83,4%), especially on poultry and cow. The percentage of participants who consumed culled sick and dead animals accounted for 26%, over 30% of villagers slept in forest and more than 50% consumed bushmeat. Risk behaviors related to management livestock and wildlife were statistically significantly associated with gender, age of subjects, educational background, household wealth, information approach on zoonosis, and the number of livestocks. Conclusions: The proportion of respondents who have heard about zoonotic diseases was 40%. The high-risk group falls on those who consume dead domestic animals, wildlife animals and sleep in the forest. Behaviors of human-wildlife contact and zoonosis are quite common with the Nham locals, which emphasizes the necessity for intervention programs in zoonotic disease control.
Combination Antifungal Therapy for Cryptococcal Meningitis
Background
Combination antifungal therapy (amphotericin B deoxycholate and flucytosine) is the recommended treatment for cryptococcal meningitis but has not been shown to reduce mortality, as compared with amphotericin B alone. We performed a randomized, controlled trial to determine whether combining flucytosine or high-dose fluconazole with high-dose amphotericin B improved survival at 14 and 70 days.
Methods
We conducted a randomized, three-group, open-label trial of induction therapy for cryptococcal meningitis in patients with human immunodeficiency virus infection. All patients received amphotericin B at a dose of 1 mg per kilogram of body weight per day; patients in group 1 were treated for 4 weeks, and those in groups 2 and 3 for 2 weeks. Patients in group 2 concurrently received flucytosine at a dose of 100 mg per kilogram per day for 2 weeks, and those in group 3 concurrently received fluconazole at a dose of 400 mg twice daily for 2 weeks.
Results
A total of 299 patients were enrolled. Fewer deaths occurred by days 14 and 70 among patients receiving amphotericin B and flucytosine than among those receiving amphotericin B alone (15 vs. 25 deaths by day 14; hazard ratio, 0.57; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.30 to 1.08; unadjusted P=0.08; and 30 vs. 44 deaths by day 70; hazard ratio, 0.61; 95% CI, 0.39 to 0.97; unadjusted P=0.04). Combination therapy with fluconazole had no significant effect on survival, as compared with monotherapy (hazard ratio for death by 14 days, 0.78; 95% CI, 0.44 to 1.41; P=0.42; hazard ratio for death by 70 days, 0.71; 95% CI, 0.45 to 1.11; P=0.13). Amphotericin B plus flucytosine was associated with significantly increased rates of yeast clearance from cerebrospinal fluid (−0.42 log10 colony-forming units [CFU] per milliliter per day vs. −0.31 and −0.32 log10 CFU per milliliter per day in groups 1 and 3, respectively; P<0.001 for both comparisons). Rates of adverse events were similar in all groups, although neutropenia was more frequent in patients receiving a combination therapy.
Conclusions
Amphotericin B plus flucytosine, as compared with amphotericin B alone, is associated with improved survival among patients with cryptococcal meningitis. A survival benefit of amphotericin B plus fluconazole was not found
