The Italian Way for Research Biobanks After GDPR: Hybrid Normative Solutions to Balance the Protection of Individuals and Freedom of Research
AbstractThe Italian context of biobanking is made up of a vast number of collections, in some cases well-organised and connected in virtuous networks and in others not identifiable as structured biobanks. From a comparative perspective, Italy can be regarded as a hybrid model, positioned between countries with full and detailed legislation concerning biobanks and those that rely only on guidelines published by national ethics committees or professional societies that have no binding legal value. In countries like Italy where the need for specific regulation is more urgent, the entry into force of the GDPR could have offered a chance to fill the gap in the legislation with regard to biobanking for medical scientific research purposes. This overview highlights the improvements made and the obstacles that persist
Rare thermal bubbles at the many-body localization transition from the Fock space point of view
In this work we study the many-body localization (MBL) transition and relate
it to the eigenstate structure in the Fock space. Besides the standard
entanglement and multifractal probes, we introduce the radial probability
distribution of eigenstate coefficients with respect to the Hamming distance in
the Fock space from the wave function maximum and relate the cumulants of this
distribution to the properties of the quasi-local integrals of motion in the
MBL phase. We demonstrate non-self-averaging property of the many-body fractal
dimension and directly relate it to the jump of as well as of the
localization length of the integrals of motion at the MBL transition. We
provide an example of the continuous many-body transition confirming the above
relation via the self-averaging of in the whole range of parameters.
Introducing a simple toy-model, which hosts ergodic thermal bubbles, we give
analytical evidences both in standard probes and in terms of newly introduced
radial probability distribution that the MBL transition in the Fock space is
consistent with the avalanche mechanism for delocalization, i.e., the
Kosterlitz-Thouless scenario. Thus, we show that the MBL transition can been
seen as a transition between ergodic states to non-ergodic extended states and
put the upper bound for the disorder scaling for the genuine Anderson
localization transition with respect to the non-interacting case.Comment: 13 pages, 5 figures, 94 reference
Winegrape berry skin thickness determination: comparison between histological observation and texture analysis determination.
We analyzed the relation between the assessment of grape berry skin thickness by means of histology sections and instrumental mechanical properties measurements. Berry skin of Vitis vinifera L. cultivar Corvina vineyards from Valpolicella Valpantena zone (Verona, Italy) were tested, evidencing a strong correlation between the two thickness determination methods. The middle or equatorial berry skin portion was found to be the less variable in instrumental skin thickness determination. In addition, unlike other studies, no correlation between the skin thickness and cell layers number was found
