Endodontic treatment alternative for periapical processes. Case report

Se presenta un caso de proceso séptico odontógeno producto de un trauma en una paciente femenina de 11 años de edad, la cual acudió a consulta, asintomática, para la reconstrucción de los incisivos centrales superiores refiriendo haber sufrido hace 2 años un trauma a este nivel, para lo cual recibió tratamiento endodóntico que fue insatisfactorio. Se realizaron radiografías periapicales y panorámicas, diagnosticándose un quiste periapical en el incisivo central superior derecho (11) y absceso dentoalveolar crónico en el incisivo central superior izquierdo (21), siendo este último tratado mediante método endodóntico convencional. En el 11 se procedió a la enucleación del quiste, apiceptomía y obturación retrógrada, evolucionando ambos de forma satisfactoria. El tratamiento descrito constituye una alternativa válida para la resolución de casos donde la endodoncia convencional es limitada para mantener las funcionesde la pieza dentaria.Introduction: Pulp vitality can be affected by different factors, those determine the necessity of unique or combined endodontic treatments. Case report: We report a case of a septic odontogenic process in an 11 year-old female patient who went to consultation for the reconstruction of the central upper incisors previously traumatized and unsatisfactory treated. Aperiapical cyst in the right central upper incisive (11) and a chronic dentoalveolar abscess in the left central upper incisive (21) were diagnosed, being this last treaty by conventional endodontic method. In the 11, the enucleation of the cyst, apiceptomy and retrograde obturation were performed, evolving both in a satisfactory way. Conclusion: The treatment performed constitutes a valid alternative in cases where the conventional endodontic techniques are limited for maintaining the dental functions (chewing, speaking and aesthetics) and the psychological integrity of the patients
