Several 5-alkyl, 5-alkenyl, 5-iso-alkyl, 5-halo, 5-aminomethyl and 5-carboxy derivatives of S-DABOs (dihydro-alkyl (or cyclo-alkyl)thio-benzyloxopyrimidines), DATNOs (dihydro-alkylthionaphthylmethyl-oxopyrimidines) and F2-S-DABOs (dihydro-alkyl (or cyclo-alkyl)thio-2,6-difluorobenzyl-oxopyrimidines) have been prepared and tested as anti-HIV-1 agents. S-DABO derivatives bearing at C-6 position monosubstituted phenylmethyl or heteroarylmethyl units have also been synthesized. 2-Alkylthio-3,4-dihydropyrimidin-4(3 H)-one derivatives of F2- S-DABO series bearing small alkyl groups at C-5 proved to be potent inhibitors of HIV-1 replication in vitro with selectivity indexes ranging from 250 to <2500

Copyright: Copyright 2020 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved. Background: Concerns exist regarding the prevalence and impact of unnecessary oxygen use in patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). We examined this issue in patients with ARDS enrolled in the Large observational study to UNderstand the Global impact of Severe Acute respiratory FailurE (LUNG SAFE) study. Methods: In this secondary analysis of the LUNG SAFE study, we wished to determine the prevalence and the outcomes associated with hyperoxemia on day 1, sustained hyperoxemia, and excessive oxygen use in patients with early ARDS. Patients who fulfilled criteria of ARDS on day 1 and day 2 of acute hypoxemic respiratory failure were categorized based on the presence of hyperoxemia (PaO2 > 100 mmHg) on day 1, sustained (i.e., present on day 1 and day 2) hyperoxemia, or excessive oxygen use (FIO2 ≥ 0.60 during hyperoxemia). Results: Of 2005 patients that met the inclusion criteria, 131 (6.5%) were hypoxemic (PaO2 < 55 mmHg), 607 (30%) had hyperoxemia on day 1, and 250 (12%) had sustained hyperoxemia. Excess FIO2 use occurred in 400 (66%) out of 607 patients with hyperoxemia. Excess FIO2 use decreased from day 1 to day 2 of ARDS, with most hyperoxemic patients on day 2 receiving relatively low FIO2. Multivariate analyses found no independent relationship between day 1 hyperoxemia, sustained hyperoxemia, or excess FIO2 use and adverse clinical outcomes. Mortality was 42% in patients with excess FIO2 use, compared to 39% in a propensity-matched sample of normoxemic (PaO2 55-100 mmHg) patients (P = 0.47). Conclusions: Hyperoxemia and excess oxygen use are both prevalent in early ARDS but are most often non-sustained. No relationship was found between hyperoxemia or excessive oxygen use and patient outcome in this cohort. Trial registration: LUNG-SAFE is registered with ClinicalTrials.gov, NCT02010073publishersversionPeer reviewe

Initial Public Offerings and the Firm Location

The firm geographic location matters in IPOs because investors have a strong preference for newly issued local stocks and provide abnormal demand in local offerings. Using equity holdings data for more than 53,000 households, we show the probability to participate to the stock market and the proportion of the equity wealth is abnormally increasing with the volume of the IPOs inside the investor region. Upon nearly the universe of the 167,515 going public and private domestic manufacturing firms, we provide consistent evidence that the isolated private firms have higher probability to go public, larger IPO underpricing cross-sectional average and volatility, and less pronounced long-run under-performance. Similar but opposite evidence holds for the local concentration of the investor wealth. These effects are economically relevant and robust to local delistings, IPO market timing, agglomeration economies, firm location endogeneity, self-selection bias, and information asymmetries, among others. Findings suggest IPO waves have a strong geographic component, highlight that underwriters significantly under-estimate the local demand component thus leaving unexpected money on the table, and support state-contingent but constant investor propensity for risk

Let K be a closed convex subset of a uniformly convex Banach space and let T a nonexpansive selfmapping of K which has at least one fixed point. In this Paper we prove that, if xϵKx\epsilon K and {Tn(x)}\left\{ T^{n}(x)\right\} has some limit point, then the sequence of the Cesaro\textquoteright{}s means of {Tn(x)}\left\{ T^{n}(x)\right\} converges to a fixed point of T. We remark moreover that the above result still holds under more general conditions and we give some counter-examples for quasi-nonexpansive mappings

Remarks on asymptotic and Chebyshev centers

Let X be a Banach space and K a subset of X. Two related concepts have proved quite useful in the study of fixed point theory for mappings of nonexpansive type: the asymptotic center of a sequence in X relative to K, and the Cheby,,:hev center of a set $ in X relative to K. In Section 1 below we compare • symptotic centers of sequences and nets, and in Section 2 we make an observation regarding continuity of Chebyshev centers which extends a result of Mach [12] from a uniformly convex setting to a "nearly uniform convex " setting. We use the notation B(x; r) to denote the closed unit ball centered at x 6 X with radius r> 0. Asymptotic Centers. The concept of asymptoti center was introduced by Edelstein in [1] and extended by Lim to apply to nets in [9]. We recall the definitions: Let A be a directed set and {x•, • 6 A) a bounded net in X. Set ry({Xo}) = limsup y- xo I---- li•m{sup { y- xz]] ß/3> c•}}; rK({x•,}) = inf{rv({xo}) : y e K); A•({•o}) = { • e a:: •({•}) = •({•})}. The number rK({X•}) is called the asymptotic radius of {x•} in K and the (possibly empty) set Aa:({x•}) the asymptoti center of {x•} in K. Since A({x •}) is the set of minimizers of the weakly lower semicontinuous function •: K- • It defined by •(y) = limsup • Ily- x•11, it follows that if K is weakly compact and convex, then Aa:({x•}) is a nonempty closed and convex subset of K. For the present discussion we shall assume K is a fixed weakly compact convex set in X and drop the subscripts and references to K
