High-Performance Design of a 4-Bit Carry Look-Ahead Adder in Static CMOS Logic
Design of a 4-bit Carry Look-Ahead (CLA) process in static CMOS logic has been presented. CLA architecture proposed in this work computes carry-out terms without using carry-propagate and carry-generate signals which are used in conventional static CMOS (C-CMOS) 4-bit CLA adder. Performance parameters of the proposed 4-bit CLA architecture have been simulated and validated by comparing with the conventional design using Cadence design toolset in 45 nm technology. The designs were compared in terms of average power consumption, propagation delay and power delay product (PDP). The proposed 4-bit CLA topology obtained 34.53 % improvement in speed, 4.84 % improvement in power consumption and 37.696 % improvement in PDP while the source voltage was 1.0 V. Hence, as per acquired simulation results, the proposed 4-bit CLA structure is proven to be an excellent alternative to the conventional design for data-path design in modern high-performance processors.Design of a 4-bit Carry Look-Ahead (CLA) process in static CMOS logic has been presented. Human Machine Interaction (HMI) in Offshore Drilling - oil rig workers’ opinion about their interaction with machines
Introduction: There are huge numbers of drilling platforms in the world and once the worker on those platforms meet with an accident, the situation could be very serious. The consequence of this could be environmental, economic and in some cases fatal. Middle East, being one of the oil rich regions hence some of the largest operator works here. Companies here own various types of jack up rigs ranging from old generation rigs to the latest cyber-rig. This paper addresses what oil rig workers have to say about their interaction with machines, and how Human Machine Interaction (HMI) in Offshore Drilling can be improved with design.
Methods: A case study approach was undertaken The analysis in this paper draws on the interviews conducted with two different employees involved in operating the drilling operations conducted in the driller’s cabin of newly designed offshore rigs. A semi-structured approach was adopted, using themes identified through analysis of the preceding. The interviews were transcribed by the research team. Each interview was analyzed thematically with existing system and reported discrepancy
Results: The study on Human Machine Interaction (HMI) and Human Factor regarding this has been conducted in the latest generation cyber rigs. There are many aspects of HMI and ergonomics but in this study a special concentration has been given to deal with the ergonomic standpoint and evaluates the drillers console controls.Â
Conclusion: When comparison is done with the existing machinery, few modifications can be thought of for better human machine interaction. A better human machine interaction system will ensure a more productive environment for the oil-rig workers
Renewable Energy Sector in Bangladesh: The Current Scenario, Challenges and the Role of IoT in Building a Smart Distribution Grid
Advancement in electricity is the key ingredient that can actively take part in alleviating poverty and drastically improve the socio-economic status of the people of Bangladesh. The incorporation of renewable energy sources would help the country meet the energy requirement as well as contribute positively towards building a sustainable planet. The paper has extensively discussed the potential aspects of renewable energy resources in Bangladesh and how the Internet of Things can facilitate the implementation of intermittent sources. The regulatory and socio-economic aspects of the renewable energy industry have been explored and sustainable solutions will be discussed to fast-track the process of integrating various renewable energy sources in the power grid to meet the energy demand. The paper discusses the challenges associated with the RE integration in Bangladesh’s power mix and tries to mitigate it through the IoT. Besides that, an RE map for Bangladesh along with prospective power network has also been discussed in this work
Blockchain Application in Healthcare Systems: A Review
In the recent years, blockchain technology has gained significant attention in the healthcare sector. It has the potential to alleviate a wide variety of major difficulties in electronic health record systems. This study presents an elaborate overview of the existing research works on blockchain applications in the healthcare industry. This paper evaluates 144 articles that discuss the importance and limits of using blockchain technologies to improve healthcare operations. The objective is to demonstrate the technology’s potential uses and highlight the difficulties and possible sectors for future blockchain research in the healthcare domain. The paper starts with an extensive background study of blockchain and its features. Then, the paper focuses on providing an extensive literature review of the selected articles to highlight the current research themes in blockchain-based healthcare systems. After that, major application areas along with the solutions provided by blockchain in healthcare systems are pointed out. Finally, a discussion section provides insight into the limitations, challenges and future research directions
Automated Traffic Detection System Based on Image Processing
This paper proposes a low-cost automated traffic detection system based on image processing. Dhaka is one of the crowded cities in the world with highly challenging traffic system. There is substantial lack of awareness among the drivers of transport system. As a result, citizens do not follow the rules and regulation while driving in Dhaka city. The tendency of violating the traffic regulation is noticeable throughout the country. As a result, the whole traffic system collapses very often and sometimes it ends-up with severe accidents. In recent days, the government has taken different initiatives including enlargement of pedestrian walkways, building new flyovers and foot-over bridges, expansion of existing roads. But, violation still the outcome of all these initiatives could not improve the situation significantly. The proposed system will automatically detect the traffic through live streaming video so that the detected images can be used to detect traffic violation. Later on, the law enforcement agency will be able to take necessary legal steps based on the stored information on the database
