    Get PDF
Purpose – The intellectual capital (IC) can be divided into three categories, i.e. human, structural, and relationship capitals. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the correlation among those capitals to their indicators, particularly for intellectual capital statement made in Germany and intellectual capital statement made in Europe models. Design/methodology/approach – In these two models, each capital has four, six, and five indicators, respectively. So totally, there are 15 indicators. Structural equation modeling and its sensitivity analysis are utilized for measuring the correlation among those capitals to their indicators. Findings – Among those 15 indicators, 14 indicators have strong correlation with their respective capitals. Moreover, there exist strong correlation in a similar weight among those capitals, i.e. the correlations between human (HC) and structural capital (SC) is 0.88, SC and relationship capital (RC) is 0.87 and HC to RC is 0.81. Originality/value – So far, the data collected from the IC projects are presented and analyzed through descriptive statistics and statistics summaries, e.g. mean and standard deviation. This paper offers other statistical tools for exposing valuable information such as the correlation among each capital to its indicators in IC mode

    Get PDF
Fly-in, fly-out employment remains prevalent in Western Australia, however to date, no research has been conducted into the impacts of a FIFO lifestyle on breastfeeding. This study aimed to gain insight from women who were breastfeeding whilst their partners worked a FIFO roster, to better understand their supports, enablers, and barriers to continuing breastfeeding, with an aim to inform future support of families and health professionals in this area

Phytoplankton ecology in four high-elevation lakes of the North Cascades, WA

The objective of my project was to describe phytoplankton ecology in high-elevation lakes of the North Cascades, WA. I conducted my field study using a small-scale ecosystem approach encompassing four lakes in the same watershed near Mt. Baker. I used exploratory data analyses to identify spatial and seasonal patterns in phytoplankton and water chemistry. Chlorophyll-a levels were less than 2.5 μg/L, and total nitrogen and phosphorus levels were below 198 and 15.9 μg/L, respectively, indicating the low-production and nutrient-poor nature of these lakes. Chlorophyll-a was weakly correlated with total nitrogen (Kendall\u27s tau = 0.25, p \u3c 0.05) but was not correlated with most other water chemistry variables (p \u3e 0.05). In the phytoplankton dataset, 88 unique taxa were found in 44 lake surface samples. The dominant taxa were members of the groups Cyanobacteria and Chlorophyta. All lakes exhibited seasonal phytoplankton succession characteristic of north temperate lakes, despite the short ice-free period. Nonparametric nonmetric cluster analysis (Riffle) resulted in separation of the four lakes into two groups based on water chemistry variables and phytoplankton abundances. The first group (Picture and Highwood Lakes) was characterized by higher water temperatures and total nitrogen levels, and lower nitrate, soluble reactive phosphate, dissolved oxygen, and pH levels compared to the second group (Upper and Lower Bagley Lakes). Higher abundances of Ochrophyta, Chlorophyta, and Cyanobacteria in the first group also contributed to cluster separation. Differences in water chemistry and phytoplankton between cluster groups could be related to differences in the lakes\u27 external physical environments, which in turn may influence the internal chemical and biological properties of the lakes. Results from this study provide baseline information and understanding relevant to larger, longer-term research and monitoring efforts in North Cascade high-elevation lakes

Activism, Science and the Infinite Game: Exploring the relationship between science and environmental activism

    Get PDF
According to James Carse, humanity plays two types of games. We play games that are finite and games that are infinite. As human activity alters the biosphere, ecosystems are collapsing, biodiversity is declining, and the climate is changing. In the face of these challenges, the games of scientists, science communicators and environmental activists often align or intersect. This thesis explores the relationship between science and environmental activism, and how they affect one another’s finite and infinite games. The discussion covers how they positively affect one another’s games and how they negatively affect one another’s games, with case studies to illustrate each relationship. I found that science can be a tool in activists’ games to reform policy, challenge industries, and empower communities at the forefront of environmental conflicts. Activism can motivate scientific investigations, strategically further the public and political reach of research, and contribute to the epistemic integrity of the sciences. Activism can negatively affect science by obscuring scientific findings, jeopardising the credibility of scientific efforts, and perpetuating a combative approach to environmental challenges. Furthermore, science can negatively affect activism by diverting the public imagination from relationships that enable environmental injustice, by perpetuating epistemic injustice, and undermining emotions in environmental conflicts. This exploration sheds light on how the games of activists and scientists can further the infinite game for environmental justice, but also on the ways their games reinforce socio-political systems that underpin environmental injustices

Buku Penelitian Operasional I ini dimaksudkan sebagai buku acuan untuk mata kuliah Optimasi I yang diselenggarakan di Program Studi Teknik Industri UK. Petra.

Replikasi Signal Dengan Menggunakan Metode Bootstrap

Signal can be modeled as a periodic or a nonperiodic stochastic process. Therefore to replicate a signal, we should keep the original character of the signal as well as the random character in it. One of plausible methods for doing such kind of job is bootstrap. However, we should modify the boostrap to accomodate the dependency in the series and their periodicities. As the pre bootraping we need to detect the existence of periodicities in the series. Two methods are given for detecting the existence of periodicities, i.e. the Fisher classical statistic, and the Chiu statistic. At the end we give an illustration. We used simulated data for testing and replicating a signal
