To the Editor: The article by Pirson et al. (N Engl J Med 296:194, 1977) prompted our review of the fate of 35 HBs Ag-positive patients receiving renal allografts at the University of Minnesota between September 1, 1971, and May 31, 1973, as well as the fate of the 35 HBs Ag-negative control patients matched for source of kidney (cadaver vs. living, related donor), date of transplant and sex and age of recipient. We reported,1 after a 21-month average post-transplant follow-up period, that there was little difference in either graft or patient survival between the HBs. © 1977, Massachusetts Medical Society.
