Photodynamic processes in LiCaAlF6:Ce3+ UV active medium
© Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd. The objectives of this paper are experimental studies of pump-induced effects in LiCaAlF6: Ce3+ single crystals and computer model elaboration and appropriated software package engineering. The elaborated experimental technique and software allow either to calculate the nonlinear absorption/gain characteristics of the active medium on the basis of known parameters, or to find its previously unknown parameters from pump-probe experimental dependences
Pump-probe studies of absorption saturation and optical gain in Ce:LiCaAlF6 ultraviolet active medium
Aim of this work was to investigate nonlinear absorption of pump radiation in UV spectral range of Ce3+:LiCaAlF6 crystalline active medium. We were able to evaluate excited state absorption cross-section at pump wavelength (266 nm) and recombination probabilities by means of computer simulation. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd
Synergistic induction of lipid catabolism and anti-inflammatory lipids in white fat of dietary obese mice in response to calorie restriction and n-3 fatty acids
Calorie restriction is an essential component in the treatment of obesity and associated diseases. Long-chain n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (LC n-3 PUFA) act as natural hypolipidaemics, reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease and could prevent the development of obesity and insulin resistance. We aimed to characterise the effectiveness and underlying mechanisms of the combination treatment with LC n-3 PUFA and 10% calorie restriction in the prevention of obesity and associated disorders in mice. Male mice (C57BL/6J) were habituated to a corn-oil-based high-fat diet (cHF) for 2 weeks and then randomly assigned to various dietary treatments for 5 weeks or 15 weeks: (1) cHF, ad libitum; (2) cHF with LC n-3 PUFA concentrate replacing 15% (wt/wt) of dietary lipids (cHF + F), ad libitum; (3) cHF with calorie restriction (CR; cHF + CR); and (4) cHF + F + CR. Mice fed a chow diet were also studied. We show that white adipose tissue plays an active role in the amelioration of obesity and the improvement of glucose homeostasis by combining LC n-3 PUFA intake and calorie restriction in cHF-fed mice. Specifically in the epididymal fat in the abdomen, but not in other fat depots, synergistic induction of mitochondrial oxidative capacity and lipid catabolism was observed, resulting in increased oxidation of metabolic fuels in the absence of mitochondrial uncoupling, while low-grade inflammation was suppressed, reflecting changes in tissue levels of anti-inflammatory lipid mediators, namely 15-deoxy-Delta(12,15)-prostaglandin J(2) and protectin D1. White adipose tissue metabolism linked to its inflammatory status in obesity could be modulated by combination treatment using calorie restriction and dietary LC n-3 PUFA to improve therapeutic strategies for metabolic syndrome
LADM Refined Survey Model
First Edition of the Land Administration Domain Model (LADM) has three packages related to: Parties (people and organisations); Basic Administrative Units, Rights, Responsibilities, and Restrictions (of ownership rights); spatial units (parcels, and the legal space of buildings and utility networks) with a sub package for Surveying and Representation (geometry and topology). The latter sub-package provides the functionality to manage observations and cadastral surveys measurements.Contents of LADM implementations are based on authentic source documents, including the names of the persons having a role (responsibility) in the process of the initial data acquisition and/or in the maintenance process. This concerns legal/administrative data and spatial data based on field surveys and observations – where responsible professionals can be conveyors, registrars, surveyors, grassroot surveyors, citizens themselves (participatory surveying) and paralegals. Some of the existing parts of Edition I of the LADM are proposed to be refined in the context of development of Edition II of the standard. This will allow for the inclusion of better structured meta data – also in support of participatory approaches in cadastral surveying. Richer semantics may require more rigid representations of the various Code Lists and the values they contain (adding more structure and using sematic technologies to define meaning of values). An extended survey and legal models are proposed and presented in this paper. This implies adjustments from field observations to the spatial database and the generation of quality labels.GIS Technologi
Light-induced periodic structures and their characteristics in crystals CaF<inf>2</inf>-LuF<inf>3</inf>, activated by Ce3+ and Yb3+ ions
© 2016 IEEE.Here we discuss the opportunity of using Ce-doped fluorite-Type crystals as basis for amplitude photonic crystals with modulation of color centers absorption due to complex picture of the dynamic processes occurring in this medium under UV pump. The results of time resolved absorption saturation studies and key parameters of dynamic processes evaluation are presented. Also discuss the results of experiments of creating periodic inhomogeneities of the absorption coefficient of color centers and the gain in mixed crystals with the fluorite structure CaF2-LuF3, doped Ce3+ and Yb3+
