Several hospitals have recently established a nutrition support team(NST)for the nutritional management of inpatients. The NST includes medical doctors, nurses, dietitians, and pharmacists. The aims of the NST are to improve the nutritional condition and the quality of life(QOL)of patients. In Tokushima University Hospital, a NST was established in2002. Our team comprises physicians, surgeons, dentists, nurses, dietitians, pharmacists, dental hygienists, and physical therapists. Overall, 70% of patients undergoing a NST intervention have cancer. Nutritional management in patients with cancer plays an important role in the supportive care during cancer treatment(surgery, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy). It is focused on the improvement of undernutrition, return to oral feeding, and an improvement in QOL in palliative care. Recently, cancer cachexia has received a lot of attention, with various studies reporting on the nutritional care in patients with cancer. Malnutrition negatively impacts a patient’s response to therapy, leading to an increase in the incidence of treatment-related side effects, and impairment in muscle function, performance status, immune function, and QOL. Recently, it has been reported that NST improves the treatment outcome in patients with cancer because nutritional status is an important part of cancer treatment. Therefore, nutritional management by a NST in patients with cancer has played a crucial role in cancer therapy

Background:The relationship between dental health behavior and incidence of dental caries among women nurses remains unclear. Methods:A cross-sectional questionnaire-based survey was conducted on 6 9 3 women nurses who worked at Dokkyo Medical University Hospital. The survey questionnaire consisted of demographic characteristics, dental health behavior, visits to dentists during working hours in the previous year, and further details about dental problems. The odds ratio( OR) with 95% confidence interval( CI) for experience with dental problems due to dental caries in the previous year was calculated using single logistic regression models. Results:Among 693 subjects, 178( 25.7%) had experienced dental problems due to dental caries in the previous year. Compared with subjects who never brushed their teeth after snacking between meals, the OR of experience with dental problems due to dental caries was significantly lower among subjects who always brushed their teeth after snacking between meals (OR:0.55, 95% CI:0.32-0.94). Compared with subjects who never had dental checkups, the OR of experience with dental problems due to dental caries was significantly lower among subjects who had dental checkups once a year (OR:0.46, 95% CI:0.26-0.81) and less than once a year( OR:0.57, 95% CI:0.39-0.83).Conclusions:Women nurses who always brushed their teeth after snacking between meals had less experience with dental problems due to dental caries than those who did not. Women nurses who had dental checkups were at lower risk of dental problems due to dental caries than those who did not

Passion fruit green spot virus (PfGSV), isolated from Ligustrum: its relationships with the Brevipalpus vector mite

The passion fruit green spot virus (passion fruit green spot virus - PfGSV), transmitted by Brevipalpus mites, and tentative member of the genus Cilevirus, had its first description in 1997 in the state of São Paulo, with the potential to affect statistics to the passion fruit culture. Another possible virus, Ligustrum leprosy, has been found infecting Ligustrum spp. and it had symptomatic similarity to a virus described in Argentina in 1942, in Bella Vista, also present in the Ligustrum spp. It is described as \"lepra explosiva de la ligustrina\". However, through the comparison of genomes or viruses found in Brazil, associated with PfGSV, being possibly distinct from the virus found in Argentina, being probably isolated from PfGSV, and also as (PfGSV-Lig). PfGSV-Lig has been found to infect several different species of plants, some of which are infected experimentally, in addition to several others tested. The infection was proven through RT-PCR tests and examination of sections of lesions by transmission electron microscopy. Brevipalpus (Acari: Tenuipalpidae) mites present in PfGSV-Lig infected Ligustrum spp. plants were assayed to identify the vector species. B. yothersi transmitted PfGSV, but not B. obovatus and B. californicus. Experiments were also carried out to determine some parameters such as access period for acquisition and inoculation, and latency of PfGSV-Lig, by the vector species. Preliminary results for determining the acquisition period for inoculation indicate that it is less than 24 hours. Additional studies should define these parameters
