The effect of a visual/motion display mismatch in a single axis compensatory tracking task
The frequency response of visual systems is typically unity from 0 to 20 rad/sec, while that of motion systems typically falls off in the vicinity of 6 rad/sec. The question arises as to what effect, if any, such a difference in servomechanism performance has on the simulation. Is pilot performance reduced by the conflict between displays? Would a more realistic simulation occur if the visual servomechanisms were degraded to match the motion servomechanisms? Does the pilot need and use the higher frequency information present in the visual display? The purpose of the experiment is to take a step forward toward answering these questions. Work already in the literature which bears on these questions is outlined. A description is then given of an experiment used to check for the effects of a difference in the performance of the visual and motion servomechanisms (the experiment uses a single-axis, compensatory, roll-tracking task). The results of the experiment are then presented and analyzed
MUSTANG 3.3 Millimeter Continuum Observations of Class 0 Protostars
We present observations of six Class 0 protostars at 3.3 mm (90 GHz) using
the 64-pixel MUSTANG bolometer camera on the 100-m Green Bank Telescope. The
3.3 mm photometry is analyzed along with shorter wavelength observations to
derive spectral indices (S_nu ~ nu^alpha) of the measured emission. We utilize
previously published dust continuum radiative transfer models to estimate the
characteristic dust temperature within the central beam of our observations. We
present constraints on the millimeter dust opacity index, beta, between 0.862
mm, 1.25 mm, and 3.3 mm. Beta_mm typically ranges from 1.0 to 2.4 for Class 0
sources. The relative contributions from disk emission and envelope emission
are estimated at 3.3 mm. L483 is found to have negligible disk emission at 3.3
mm while L1527 is dominated by disk emission within the central beam. The
beta_mm^disk <= 0.8 - 1.4 for L1527 indicates that grain growth is likely
occurring in the disk. The photometry presented in this paper may be combined
with future interferometric observations of Class 0 envelopes and disks.Comment: 19 pages, 3 figures, AJ accepted, in pres
Visual/motion cue mismatch in a coordinated roll maneuver
The effects of bandwidth differences between visual and motion cueing systems on pilot performance for a coordinated roll task were investigated. Visual and motion cue configurations which were acceptable and the effects of reduced motion cue scaling on pilot performance were studied to determine the scale reduction threshold for which pilot performance was significantly different from full scale pilot performance. It is concluded that: (1) the presence or absence of high frequency error information in the visual and/or motion display systems significantly affects pilot performance; and (2) the attenuation of motion scaling while maintaining other display dynamic characteristics constant, affects pilot performance
Suffix Trees Considered Harmful
The implications of adaptive theory have been far-reaching and pervasive. In this paper, au- thors demonstrate the evaluation of journaling file systems, which embodies the intuitive principles of programming languages. We prove that despite the fact that Scheme and Markov models are often incompatible, 802.11 mesh networks and Web services can agree to answer this grand challenge
Transport and Magnetic Properties of FexVse2 (x = 0 - 0.33)
We present our results of the effect of Fe intercalation on the structural,
transport and magnetic properties of 1T-VSe2. Intercalation of iron, suppresses
the 110K charge density wave (CDW) transition of the 1T-VSe2. For the higher
concentration of iron, formation of a new kind of first order transition at
160K takes place, which go on stronger for the 33% Fe intercalation.
Thermopower of the FexVSe2 compounds (x = 0 - 0.33), however do not show any
anomaly around the transition. The intercalation of Fe does not trigger any
magnetism in the weak paramagnetic 1T-VSe2, and Fe is the low spin state of
Fe3+.Comment: 7 pages, 8 figures, 2 table
Exciton spectroscopy of hexagonal boron nitride using non-resonant x-ray Raman scattering
We report non-resonant x-ray Raman scattering (XRS) measurements from
hexagonal boron nitride for transferred momentum from 2 to 9
along directions both in and out of the basal plane. A
symmetry-based argument, together with real-space full multiple scattering
calculations of the projected density of states in the spherical harmonics
basis, reveals that a strong pre-edge feature is a dominantly -type
Frenkel exciton with no other \textit{s}-, \textit{p}-, or \textit{d}-
components. This conclusion is supported by a second, independent calculation
of the \textbf{q}-dependent XRS cross-section based on the Bethe-Salpeter
equation
Multiple Core-Hole Coherence in X-Ray Four-Wave-Mixing Spectroscopies
Correlation-function expressions are derived for the coherent nonlinear
response of molecules to three resonant ultrafast pulses in the x-ray regime.
The ability to create two-core-hole states with controlled attosecond timing in
four-wave-mixing and pump probe techniques should open up new windows into the
response of valence electrons, which are not available from incoherent x-ray
Raman and fluorescence techniques. Closed expressions for the necessary
four-point correlation functions are derived for the electron-boson model by
using the second order cumulant expansion to describe the fluctuating
potentials. The information obtained from multidimensional nonlinear techniques
could be used to test and refine this model, and establish an anharmonic
oscillator picture for electronic excitations
