Design Address on Phubbing During Dining

    Get PDF
Phubbing is the practice of ignoring one\u27s companion or companions to pay attention to one\u27s phone or other mobile device. What happens when phubbing occurs in situations such as eating with friends? Phubbing instantly stops the interaction, and this unconsciousness behavior may affect the mood of one’s companions, destroy the taste of one’s food, or ruin one’s relationships. Using a phone while eating is not a bad practice. People often use their phones to record the moment, to capture the delicious food, or to share information with others. The best way to deal with hurt caused by phubbing during dining is not to prohibit the use of smart devices, but instead to provide an appropriate manner to use them. In this thesis, I\u27ve designed a dining table decoration that features phone storage. This design not only provides a safe location to keep phones clean, but also gathers phones into one location so that if a user receives a mobile notification, the decoration will attract his or her attention to it. In this way, no one is the first to stop group interaction. By gathering everyone’s phones at the center of the dining table, accessing one’s phone becomes a group action. By keeping the source of notifications ambiguous, phubbing becomes more fun, and generates fewer negative feelings about the use of mobile devices during meals

The purpose of this study explores the effects of 8 weeks vibration training on the basic ability (explosive power, speed, agility) and athletic performance (backward somersault) of the lower limbs of gymnasts. Sixteen gymnasts were randomly divided into vibration training group (VT) and control group (CON). Participants were trained for eight weeks and performed countermovement jump (CMJ), sprints, shuttle run, and backward somersault tests before the training, after 4 weeks, and 8 weeks of training. The significant level was set to α = .05. The results showed that the speed of VT increased significantly after 4 weeks of training, and the speed and agility of VT increased significantly after 8 weeks of training (p \u3c.05). In conclusion, Gymnasts can improve their speed ability through 4 weeks of vibration training, and 8 weeks vibration training can improve their speed and agility

Binding of Features and Responses in Inhibition of Return: The Effects of Task Demand

    Get PDF
Binding of target’s location and response has been demonstrated in inhibition of return (IOR). This study further investigated the effects of task demand on the binding of the target’s form to the target’s location and response in the target-target paradigm of IOR. Experiments 1 (detection task) and 2 (localization task), in which the target’s form was task irrelevant, suggested the binding of location and response. Experiment 3 (discrimination task), in which the target’s form was task relevant, showed the binding of target’s form, location, and response. These findings support the concept that the features and responses associated with a target are integrated into episodic representations or event files for the target event. Furthermore, task demand modulates the binding or retrieval of the event files

Bioactive glass (BG) is considered to be one of the Most remarkable Materials in the field of bone tissue regeneration due to its superior bioactivity. In this study, both un-treated and polyethylene glycols (PEG)-treated BG particles were prepared using a spray pyrolysis process to study the correlation between particle Morphology and degradation behavior. The phase compositions, surface Morphologies, inner structures, and specific surface areas of all BG specimens were examined by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron Microscopy, transmission electron Microscopy, and nitrogen adsorption/desorption, respectively. Simulated body fluid (SBF) immersion evaluated the assessments of bioactivity and degradation behavior. The results demonstrate three particle Morphologies of solid, porous, and hollow factors. The correlation between porosity, bioactivity, and degradation behavior was discussed

Quantum correlation generation capability of experimental processes

Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen (EPR) steering and Bell nonlocality illustrate two different kinds of correlations predicted by quantum mechanics. They not only motivate the exploration of the foundation of quantum mechanics, but also serve as important resources for quantum-information processing in the presence of untrusted measurement apparatuses. Herein, we introduce a method for characterizing the creation of EPR steering and Bell nonlocality for dynamical processes in experiments. We show that the capability of an experimental process to create quantum correlations can be quantified and identified simply by preparing separable states as test inputs of the process and then performing local measurements on single qubits of the corresponding outputs. This finding enables the construction of objective benchmarks for the two-qubit controlled operations used to perform universal quantum computation. We demonstrate this utility by examining the experimental capability of creating quantum correlations with the controlled-phase operations on the IBM Quantum Experience and Amazon Braket Rigetti superconducting quantum computers. The results show that our method provides a useful diagnostic tool for evaluating the primitive operations of nonclassical correlation creation in noisy intermediate scale quantum devices.Comment: 5 figures, 3 appendice

Abstract

Background

Current staging systems have limited ability to adjust optimal therapy in advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). This study aimed to delineate the correlation between tumor volume, treatment outcome and chemotherapy cycles in advanced NPC.

Methods

A retrospective review of 110 patients with stage III-IV NPC was performed. All patients were treated first with neoadjuvant chemotherapy, then concurrent chemoradiation, and followed by adjuvant chemotherapy as being the definitive therapy. Gross tumor volume of primary tumor plus retropharyngeal nodes (GTVprn) was calculated to be an index of treatment outcome.

Results

GTVprn had a close relationship with survival and recurrence in advanced NPC. Large GTVprn (≧13 ml) was associated with a significantly poorer local control, lower distant metastasis-free rate, and poorer survival. In patients with GTVprn ≧ 13 ml, overall survival was better after ≧4 cycles of chemotherapy than after less than 4 cycles.

Conclusions

The incorporation of GTVprn can provide more information to adjust treatment strategy.</p

Gills and Maclellan (2010) conducted a 1999-2009 systemic literature review service learning in nursing education, outcomes suggest that students who participate in international programs having an increase in self-perceived cultural competency, encouraging lifelong commitment to continue serving, developing students into a positive force of change in healthcare abroad and within their own communities. The purpose of this study is in depth to analyze nursing students\u27 learning process through the service learning. Design: Action research method was used and a total number of 6 nursing students were participated in this study. One Taiwanese and one Indonesia students as a team shared a bed and lived with Indonesia family for 11 days. During this period students logs, field notes, reflection sheets and team working records as raw materials together to be used as content analysis, the reliability and validity is based on Lincoln and Guba (1985) proposed vetting reliability and validity of qualitative research methods. Results: After intensively living and working with Indonesia students and family in this international service learning program, the results come up as an agricultural process. It is improving students\u27 cross-culture communication in spread period. Follow by cultivated period that participants established cross-cultural sensitivities and culture respect. In the final harvest period, through the serving activities, participant fulfilled the role as givers and receivers among Indonesia partners and families and able to understand the meaning of love. In conclusion, this study confirmed the previous studies outcomes and showed the dynamic interaction amongst nursing students who joined service learning, and enhanced students understanding among the cultures, with the respect on inner or outer levels

Abstract

Background

Positive correlation between caseload and outcome has previously been validated for several procedures and cancer treatments. However, there is no information linking caseload and outcome of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) treatment. We used nationwide population-based data to examine the association between physician case volume and survival rates of patients with NPC.

Methods

Between 1998 and 2000, a total of 1225 patients were identified from the Taiwan National Health Insurance Research Database. Survival analysis, the Cox proportional hazards model, and propensity score were used to assess the relationship between 10-year survival rates and physician caseloads.

Results

As the caseload of individual physicians increased, unadjusted 10-year survival rates increased (<it>p </it>< 0.001). Using a Cox proportional hazard model, patients with NPC treated by high-volume physicians (caseload ≥ 35) had better survival rates (<it>p </it>= 0.001) after adjusting for comorbidities, hospital, and treatment modality. When analyzed by propensity score, the adjusted 10-year survival rate differed significantly between patients treated by high-volume physicians and patients treated by low/medium-volume physicians (75% <it>vs</it>. 61%; <it>p </it>< 0.001).

Conclusions

Our data confirm a positive volume-outcome relationship for NPC. After adjusting for differences in the case mix, our analysis found treatment of NPC by high-volume physicians improved 10-year survival rate.</p
