Design and Experimental Validation of a Ducted Counter-rotating Axial-flow Fans System
An experimental study on the design of counter-rotating axial-flow fans was
carried out. The fans were designed using an inverse method. In particular, the
system is designed to have a pure axial discharge flow. The counter-rotating
fans operate in a ducted-flow configuration and the overall performances are
measured in a normalized test bench. The rotation rate of each fan is
independently controlled. The relative axial spacing between fans can vary from
17% to 310%. The results show that the efficiency is strongly increased
compared to a conventional rotor or to a rotor-stator stage. The effects of
varying the rotation rates ratio on the overall performances are studied and
show that the system has a very flexible use, with a large patch of high
efficient operating points in the parameter space. The increase of axial

Fast Fits for Lattice QCD Correlators
We illustrate a technique for fitting lattice QCD correlators to sums of
exponentials that is significantly faster than traditional fitting methods ---
10--40 times faster for the realistic examples we present. Our examples are
drawn from a recent analysis of the Upsilon spectrum, and another recent
analysis of the D -> pi semileptonic form factor. For single correlators, we
show how to simplify traditional effective-mass analyses.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figure
The Perfect Quark-Gluon Vertex Function
We evaluate a perfect quark-gluon vertex function for QCD in coordinate space
and truncate it to a short range. We present preliminary results for the

Spectroscopy of Hadrons with b Quarks from Lattice NRQCD
Preliminary results from an extensive lattice calculation of the B, B_c, and
\Upsilon spectrum at quenched \beta = 6.0 are presented. The study includes
radially and orbitally excited mesons, and baryons containing b quarks. The b
quarks are formulated using NRQCD; for light and c quarks, a tadpole-improved

Update: Accurate Determinations of alpha_s from Realistic Lattice QCD
We use lattice QCD simulations, with MILC configurations (including vacuum
polarization from u, d, and s quarks), to update our previous determinations of
the QCD coupling constant. Our new analysis uses results from 6 different
lattice spacings and 12 different combinations of sea-quark masses to
significantly reduce our previous errors. We also correct for
finite-lattice-spacing errors in the scale setting, and for nonperturbative
chiral corrections to the 22 short-distance quantities from which we extract
the coupling. Our final result is alpha_V(7.5GeV,nf=3) = 0.2120(28), which is
equivalent to alpha_msbar(M_Z,n_f=5)= 0.1183(8). We compare this with our
previous result, which differs by one standard deviation.Comment: 12 pages, 2 figures, 4 table
B Meson Decay Constants From NRQCD
We present quenched results for B meson decay constants using NRQCD b quarks
and O(a) tadpole improved clover light quarks. For the first time, one-loop
matching factors between lattice and continuum currents are incorporated
through O(\alpha/M) taking operator mixing fully into account. This includes an
important O(\alpha a) discretization correction to the heavy-light axial vector
current. We find f_B = 0.147(11)(^{+8}_{-12})(9)(6) MeV and f_{B_s}/f_B =
1.20(4)(^{+4}_{-0}).

Precise charm to strange mass ratio and light quark masses from full lattice QCD
By using a single formalism to handle charm, strange and light valence quarks
in full lattice QCD for the first time, we are able to determine ratios of
quark masses to 1%. For we obtain 11.85(16), an order of magnitude
more precise than the current PDG average. Combined with 1% determinations of
the charm quark mass now possible this gives
92.4(1.5) MeV. The MILC result for yields = 3.40(7) MeV for the average of and quark masses.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figures. Version accepted by Physical Review Letters.
Changes include modifying the title, using the MILC value for m_s/m_l which
changes slightly the resulting up and down quark masses and their average,
adding some references and making other small adjustments to the text for
space reasons
Heavy-light mesons with staggered light quarks
We demonstrate the viability of improved staggered light quarks in studies of
heavy-light systems. Our method for constructing heavy-light operators exploits
the close relation between naive and staggered fermions. The new approach is
tested on quenched configurations using several staggered actionsn combined
with nonrelativistic heavy quarks. The B_s meson kinetic mass, the hyperfine
and 1P-1S splittings in B_s, and the decay constant f_{B_s} are calculated and
compared to previous quenched lattice studies. An important technical detail,
Bayesian curve-fitting, is discussed at length.Comment: 38 pages, figures included. v2: Entry in Table IX corrected and other
