A Location-and-Mobility Aware Routing Protocol for Bluetooth Radio Networks

    Get PDF
[[abstract]]Bluetooth is a most promising technology designed for the wireless personal area networks for the cable replacement. In this paper, a location aware mobility based routing scheme for the Bluetooth scatternet is proposed that constructs the links dynamically. Our proposed routing protocol requires location information of the nodes and constructs the route between any source and destination and reduces the number of hops. Besides, the network routing problems are analyzed and role switch operations are proposed to mitigate the problems. Moreover, the roles switch and route optimization operations are also proposed to improve route performance. Rigorous simulation works are done to evaluate the performance of our protocol in terms of mobility speed and number of mobile nodes and to compare our results with similar Bluetooth routing protocols. It is observed that our protocol outperforms in terms of energy consumption and transmission packet overheads as compared to similar Bluetooth routing protocols.[[sponsorship]]IEEE Taipei Section; National Science Council; Ministry of Education; Tamkang University; Asia University; Providence University; The University of Aizu; Lanzhou University[[conferencetype]]國際[[conferencetkucampus]]淡水校園[[conferencedate]]20091203~20091205[[iscallforpapers]]Y[[conferencelocation]]Taipei, Taiwa

Optimal Drug Policy in Low-Income Neighborhoods

Part of the debate over the control of drug activity in cities is concerned with the effectiveness of implementing demand- versus supply-side drug policies. This paper is motivated by the relative lack of research providing formal economic underpinning for the implementation of either policy. We construct a simple model of drug activity, in which the drug price and the distribution of population in a community are determined according to a career choice rule and a predetermined drug demand. Three potential government objectives are considered. We find that both demand- and supply-side policies have theoretical support under different community conditions. While the demand-side policy discourages active drug sellers, the supply-side policy has an additional drug-dealing replacement effect on inducing potential entry of drug dealers. In low-income neighborhoods, demand-side policy is more effective if the drug problem is more sever or if the government objective is to deter dealer entry or to promote community's aggregate income rather than minimizing active drug selling.

Fractional Quantum Hall Effect in Topological Flat Bands with Chern Number Two

Recent theoretical works have demonstrated various robust Abelian and non-Abelian fractional topological phases in lattice models with topological flat bands carrying Chern number C=1. Here we study hard-core bosons and interacting fermions in a three-band triangular-lattice model with the lowest topological flat band of Chern number C=2. We find convincing numerical evidence of bosonic fractional quantum Hall effect at the ν=1/3\nu=1/3 filling characterized by three-fold quasi-degeneracy of ground states on a torus, a fractional Chern number for each ground state, a robust spectrum gap, and a gap in quasihole excitation spectrum. We also observe numerical evidence of a robust fermionic fractional quantum Hall effect for spinless fermions at the ν=1/5\nu=1/5 filling with short-range interactions.Comment: 5 pages, 7 figures, with Supplementary Materia

    Perturbation-based Non-perturbative Method

This paper presents a non-perturbative method for solving eigenproblems. This method applies to almost all potentials and provides non-perturbative approximations for any energy level. The method converts an eigenproblem into a perturbation problem, obtains perturbation solutions through standard perturbation theory, and then analytically continues the perturbative solution into a non-perturbative solution

The first total synthesis of xenitorins B and C: Assignment of absolute configuration

[[abstract]]The first total synthesis of xenitorins B(1) and C(2) in natural form, which serves to confirm the structural assignments, establish the absolute stereochemistry and provide an easy access to the interesting marine sesquiterpenes was analyzed. The synthetic design calls for the use of optically active βpinene(3) both as the the starting substrate and source of chirality and its derivative 4 to facilitate the construction of the core system via a Diels-Alder reaction. This is followed by an acid catalyzed fragmentation process after suitable modifications. Formylation of (+)-7 followed by treatment of the resulting a-hydroxymethylene ketone with hydroxykamine gave rise to isoxazole(-)-9. The identity of the synthetic compounds and the corresponding natural products was established by direct comparison of their H nmr spectra. Result shows that B (-)1 and C(-)2 has been achieved and served to establish the absolute configuration of these structurally interesting natural products.[[fileno]]2010331010001[[department]]化學

Beijing converters: bridge converters with a capacitor added to reduce leakage currents, DC-bus voltage ripples, and total capacitance required

    Get PDF
Abstract: Isolation transformers and bulky electrolytic capacitors are often used in power electronic converters to reduce leakage currents and voltage ripples but this leads to low power density and reduced reliability. In this paper, an auxiliary capacitor is added to the widely used conventional full-bridge converter to provide a path for, and hence significantly reduce, the leakage current. The operation of the full-bridge converter is split into the operation of a half-bridge converter and a dc-dc converter so that the ripple energy can be diverted from the dc-bus capacitor to the auxiliary capacitor. Hence, the dc-bus capacitor can be significantly reduced while maintaining very low voltage ripples on the dc bus because it is only required to filter out switching ripples. The auxiliary capacitor is designed to allow high voltage ripples because its voltage is not supplied to any load. Accordingly, the auxiliary capacitor can also be very small as well. As a result, the total required capacitance becomes very small. The reduction ratio of the total capacitance is significant, which makes it cost-effective to use film capacitors instead of electrolytic capacitors. The proposed converters can be also operated as an inverter without any restriction on power factor because the adopted four switches are all bidirectional in terms of power flow. Experimental results for both rectification and inversion modes are presented to demonstrate the performance of the proposed converter in reducing the ripples, the leakage currents, and the total capacitance needed, with comparison to the conventional bridge converter without the auxiliary capacitor
