Search for anomalous top quark production at the early LHC

We present a detailed study of the anomalous top quark production with subsequent decay at the LHC induced by model-independent flavor-changing neutral-current couplings, incorporating the complete next-to-leading order QCD effects. Our results show that, taking into account the current limits from the Tevatron, the LHC with s=7\sqrt{s}=7 TeV may discover the anomalous coupling at 5σ\sigma level for a very low integrated luminosity of 61 pb−1^{-1}. The discovery potentials for the anomalous couplings at the LHC are examined in detail. We also discuss the possibility of using the charge ratio to distinguish the tugtug and tcgtcg couplings.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figures, version appears in Phys. Rev. Let

Search for the signal of monotop production at the early LHC

We investigate the potential of the early LHC to discover the signal of monotops, which can be decay products of some resonances in models such as R-parity violating SUSY or SU(5), etc. We show how to constrain the parameter space of the models by the present data of ZZ boson hadronic decay branching ratio, K0−K0ˉK^0-\bar{K^0} mixing and dijet productions at the LHC. Then, we study the various cuts imposed on the events, reconstructed from the hadronic final states, to suppress backgrounds and increase the significance in detail. And we find that in the hadronic mode the information from the missing transverse energy and reconstructed resonance mass distributions can be used to specify the masses of the resonance and the missing particle. Finally, we study the sensitivities to the parameters at the LHC with s\sqrt{s}=7 TeV and an integrated luminosity of 1fb−11 {\rm fb}^{-1} in detail. Our results show that the early LHC may detect this signal at 5σ\sigma level for some regions of the parameter space allowed by the current data.Comment: 25 pages, 18 figures, 3 tables, version published in Phys.Rev.

Threshold Resummation Effects in Neutral Higgs Boson Production by Bottom Quark Fusion at the CERN Large Hadron Collider

We investigate the QCD effects in the production of neutral Higgs bosons via bottom quark fusion in both the standard model and the minimal supersymmetric standard model at the CERN Large Hadron Collider. We include the next-to-leading order (NLO) QCD corrections (including supersymmetric QCD) and the threshold resummation effects. We use the soft-collinear effective theory to resum the large logarithms near threshold from soft gluon emission. Our results show that the resummation effects can enhance the total cross sections by about 5% compared with the NLO results.Comment: 29pages, 14 figures, version to appear in Physical Review
