The Effects of Supervisory Behavior on IT employees’ Job Satisfaction: An Exploratory Study
The purpose of the study is to influence positive motivational behaviors and expected satisfaction from the employees working at the organizations under close supervision. It has been monitored two supervisory behaviors on IT employees’ job satisfaction: authoritarian and positive achievement motivation behavior. Data were collected through pre-structured questionnaire from the employees working in the IT department of Real Estate and Hosing Development Industry in Bangladesh (N=80). The data indicated that IT Supervisors were engaged in positive motivational behaviors and expected greater satisfaction from the employees under their supervision; IT employee’s job satisfactions were increased. Concentrated photovoltaic thermal systems:A component-by-component view on the developments in the design, heat transfer medium and applications
The need of the hour in present world scenario is to reduce the emission of greenhouse gases and environmental pollution whilst satisfying the world energy demands. The most promising and readily available source of energy over the whole world is solar energy. One of the ways of taping this energy into useful energy is using Concentrated Photovoltaic Thermal systems. The paper presents the advanced comprehensive review on the design components of Concentrated Photovoltaic Thermal, heat transfer medium, recent application area such as Tissue Dyeing, domestic hot water, Organic Rankine Cycle, and the economic aspect of the Concentrated Photovoltaic Thermal system. Furthermore, the review paper simplifies the classification into two systems namely thermally coupled and thermally decoupled systems. Concentrated Photovoltaic Thermal shows potential to deliver better gains compared to Concentrated Photovoltaic, Photovoltaic and Photovoltaic Thermal. But matching the different components like the heat transfer component and the medium for specific use is an area that requires research. Therefore, this review concentrates more on the advantages and limitations of using different heat transfer components and heat transfer medium. The benefits of this paper would be the understanding of the components of the heat transport system like fins, microchannel, storage tank and underground heat exchangers and the fluid used in the Concentrated Photovoltaic Thermal integrated system like water, air, nanofluids, Phase Change Materials. It is found that the heat transfer device performance is limited due to its large area, thermal losses, mirror effect on the thermal and electrical efficiencies, and the temperature difference between the sink and device. Likewise, the performance of the heat transfer fluid is dependent on the mass flow rate, thermal mass, viscosity, density, time and the required temperature. Finally, for economic feasibility of the Concentrated Photovoltaic Thermal system requires the need for a grid connected system with properly sized system with feed-in-tariff and carbon incentives. Furthermore, the recommendation for heat transfer device, medium and economic aspect is also presented. However, more experimental research is required to further understand the compatibility of each components with Concentrating Photovoltaic Thermal System as presented in way forward
Determinants of institutional delivery among young married women in Nepal: Evidence from the Nepal Demographic and Health Survey, 2011
OBJECTIVES: To identify the determinants of institutional
delivery among young married women in Nepal. DESIGN: Nepal
Demographic and Health Survey (NDHS) data sets 2011 were
analysed. Bivariate and multivariate logistic regression
analyses were performed using a subset of 1662 ever-married
young women (aged 15-24 years). OUTCOME MEASURE: Place of
delivery. RESULTS: The rate of institutional delivery among
young married women was 46%, which is higher than the national
average (35%) among all women of reproductive age. Young women
who had more than four antenatal care (ANC) visits were three
times more likely to deliver in a health institution compared
with women who had no antenatal care visit (OR: 3.05; 95% CI:
2.40 to 3.87). The probability of delivering in an institution
was 69% higher among young urban women than among young women
who lived in rural areas. Young women who had secondary or above
secondary level education were 1.63 times more likely to choose
institutional delivery than young women who had no formal
education (OR: 1.626; 95% CI: 1.171 to 2.258). Lower use of a
health institution for delivery was also observed among poor
young women. Results showed that wealthy young women were 2.12
times more likely to deliver their child in an institution
compared with poor young women (OR: 2.107; 95% CI: 1.53 to
2.898). Other factors such as the age of the young woman,
religion, ethnicity, and ecological zone were also associated
with institutional delivery. CONCLUSIONS: Maternal health
programs should be designed to encourage young women to receive
adequate ANC (at least four visits). Moreover, health programs
should target poor, less educated, rural, young women who live
in mountain regions, are of Janajati ethnicity and have at least
one child as such women are less likely to choose institutional
delivery in Nepal
Solar Trap for Banana Drying Method
Food drying methods nowadays are mostly in high use of electricity and fuel which lead to high operational cost. This has resulted in a waste of energy and money due to the use of modern tools requires significant costs for implementation. Meanwhile, the traditional food drying process only uses sun rays in their process, where the process is far more efficient than the modern drying method. In this study, the test was conducted to determine the trapped solar heat energy requirements for the process of drying foods such as agricultural products, particularly bananas. The solar trap test by using solar trap container was carried out include determining the thermal energy requirement for drying, preparing equipment (solar trap container) to trap solar energy, handling and drying tests on samples of bananas. The percentage amount of water removal and energy required for the drying process was found to be 48% and 134 J. The results of this study can determine that solar trap drying method is easier, quicker and more effective than the usual method of drying because it use natural solar energy. Several proposals have been suggested for improvement for future study, such as controlling the solar trap air in the container, replacing the trap solar wall with a darker color, examining the floors slope so that more solar traps collected and installing a small hose on the base of the container so that the water evaporated in the solar trap may exit through the route
What Influences Adolescent Girls' Decision-Making Regarding Contraceptive Methods Use and Childbearing? A Qualitative Exploratory Study in Rangpur District, Bangladesh
BACKGROUND: Bangladesh has the highest rate of adolescent
pregnancy in South Asia. Child marriage is one of the leading
causes of pregnancies among adolescent girls. Although the
country's contraceptive prevalence rate is quite satisfactory,
only 52% of married adolescent girls use contraceptive methods.
This qualitative study is aimed at exploring the factors that
influence adolescent girls' decision-making process in relation
to contraceptive methods use and childbearing. METHODS AND
RESULTS: We collected qualitative data from study participants
living in Rangpur district, Bangladesh. We conducted 35 in-depth
interviews with married adolescent girls, 4 key informant
interviews, and one focus group discussion with community health
workers. Adolescent girls showed very low decision-making
autonomy towards contraceptive methods use and childbearing.
Decisions were mainly made by either their husbands or
mothers-in-law. When husbands were unemployed and financially
dependent on their parents, then the mothers-in-law played most
important role for contraceptive use and childbearing decisions.
Lack of reproductive health knowledge, lack of negotiation and
communication ability with husbands and family members, and
mistrust towards contraceptive methods also appeared as
influential factors against using contraception resulting in
early childbearing among married adolescent girls. CONCLUSIONS:
Husbands and mothers-in-law of newly married adolescent girls
need to be actively involved in health interventions so that
they make more informed decisions regarding contraceptive use to
delay pregnancies until 20 years of age. Misunderstanding and
distrust regarding contraceptives can be diminished by engaging
the wider societal actors in health intervention including
neighbours, and other family members
Optimization of Phosphorus Fertilizer in Supplemental Feed‐Fed Based Nile Tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) Ponds
An experiment was conducted in earthen ponds at the Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand to determine different phosphorus fertilizer dose effects on Nile tilapia production, water quality variables, nutrient utilization and cost‐benefit under supplemental feeding. Five phosphorus fertilization rates were used as treatments e.g. 100%, 75%, 50%, 25% and 0% of 7 kg P ha week−1. Nitrogen fertilization rate was fixed at 28 kg N ha week−1 for all the treatments. Sex‐reversed Nile tilapia were stocked at 3 fish m−2, and 30% CP floating feed fed at 50% satiation feeding rate. Nutrient budget showed higher phosphorus fertilizer input resulted in higher phosphorus sink in the sediment. Mean weight, mean weight gain, daily weight gain and net yield were not significantly different among treatments (P > 0.05). Total Kjeldahl nitrogen, total phosphorus and soluble reactive phosphorus were significantly different among treatments. Economic analysis showed phosphorus fertilization resulted in positive net returns. Though the gross income was not affected by different fertilization rates, significantly lowest cost was found in the treatment using 25% phosphorus fertilizer. It can be concluded from the research that 25% phosphorus fertilization might be used as an alternative strategy of Nile tilapia pond culture in terms of economic return and nutrient loss in sediment.Peer Reviewedhttp://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/2027.42/115936/1/are12444.pd
AnimalWeb: A Large-Scale Hierarchical Dataset of Annotated Animal Faces
Being heavily reliant on animals, it is our ethical obligation to improve their well-being by understanding their needs. Several studies show that animal needs are often expressed through their faces. Though remarkable progress has been made towards the automatic understanding of human faces, this has regrettably not been the case with animal faces. There exists significant room and appropriate need to develop automatic systems capable of interpreting animal faces. Among many transformative impacts, such a technology will foster better and cheaper animal healthcare, and further advance animal psychology understanding.
We believe the underlying research progress is mainly obstructed by the lack of an adequately annotated dataset of animal faces, covering a wide spectrum of animal species. To this end, we introduce a large-scale, hierarchical annotated dataset of animal faces, featuring 21.9K faces from 334 diverse species and 21 animal orders across biological taxonomy. These faces are captured `in-the-wild' conditions and are consistently annotated with 9 landmarks on key facial features. The proposed dataset is structured and scalable by design; its development underwent four systematic stages involving rigorous, manual annotation effort of over 6K man-hours. We benchmark it for face alignment using the existing art under novel problem settings. Results showcase its challenging nature, unique attributes and present definite prospects for novel, adaptive, and generalized face-oriented CV algorithms. We further benchmark the dataset for face detection and fine-grained recognition tasks, to demonstrate multi-task applications and room for improvement. Experiments indicate that this dataset will push the algorithmic advancements across many related CV tasks and encourage the development of novel systems for animal facial behaviour monitoring. Determinants and trends in health facility-based deliveries and caesarean sections among married adolescent girls in Bangladesh
OBJECTIVE: To identify the determinants and measure the trends
in health facility-based deliveries and caesarean sections among
married adolescent girls in Bangladesh. METHODS: In order to
measure the trends in health facility-based deliveries and
caesarean sections, Bangladesh Demographic Health Survey (BDHS)
data sets were analysed (BDHS; 1993-1994, 1996-1997, 1999-2000,
2004, 2007, 2011). The BDHS 2011 data sets were analysed to
identify the determinants of health facility-based deliveries
and caesarean sections. A total of 2813 adolescent girls (aged
10-19 years) were included for analysis. Bivariate and
multivariate analyses were performed. RESULTS: Health
facility-based deliveries have continuously increased among
adolescents in Bangladesh over the past two decades from 3% in
1993-1994 to 24.5% in 2011. Rates of population-based and
facility-based caesarean sections have increased linearly among
all age groups of women including adolescents. Although the
country's overall (population-based) caesarean section rate
among adolescents was within acceptable range (11.6%), a rate of
nearly 50% health facility level caesarean sections among
adolescent girls is alarming. Among adolescent girls, use of
antenatal care (ANC) appeared to be the most important predictor
of health facility-based delivery (OR: 4.04; 95% CI 2.73 to
5.99), whereas the wealth index appeared as the most important
predictor of caesarean sections (OR: 5.7; 95% CI 2.74 to 12.1).
CONCLUSIONS: Maternal health-related interventions should be
more targeted towards adolescent girls in order to encourage
them to access ANC and promote health facility-based delivery.
Rising trends of caesarean sections require further
investigation on indication and provider-client-related
determinants of these interventions among adolescent girls in
Bangladesh
A brief review on thermal behaviour of PANI as additive in heat transfer fluid
Since a decade ago, investigation on nanofluids has grown significantly owing to its enhanced thermal properties compared to conventional heat transfer fluids. This engineered nanofluid has been widely used in the thermal engineering system to improve their energy consumption by improving the thermal efficiency of the system. The addition of nano-size particles as additives dispersed in the base fluids proved to significantly either improve or diminish the behaviour of the base fluids. The behaviour of the base fluid highly depends on the properties of the additives material, such as morphology, size, and volume fraction. Among the variety of nanoparticles studied, the conducting polymers have been subject of high interest due to its high environmental stability, good electrical conductivity, antimicrobial, anti-corrosion property and significantly cheap compared to other nanoparticles.
