Polarization lidars with conical scanning for retrieving the microphysical characteristics of cirrus clouds

    Get PDF
The paper presents the first results of observations of cirrus clouds by polarization lidars with conical scanning, which were developed in Hefei (China) and in Tomsk (Russia). The light scattering matrix of ice crystal particles of cirrus clouds has been calculated for the first by the authors within the framework of the physical optics approximations in the case of conical scanning lidar. It is found that in this case the Mueller matrix consists of ten non-zero elements, four of which are small and can’t be applied to interpret the azimuthal distribution of particle orientation. All the diagonal elements have a strong azimuthal dependence. Among the off-diagonal elements only one element M34 carries additional information for interpreting the azimuthal distribution. © (2015) COPYRIGHT Society of Photo-Optical Instrumentation Engineers (SPIE). The paper describes a problem of computer simulation of critical phenomena in complex social systems on a petascale computing systems in frames of complex networks approach. The three-layer system of nested models of complex networks is proposed including aggregated analytical model to identify critical phenomena, detailed model of individualized network dynamics and model to adjust a topological structure of a complex network. The scalable parallel algorithm covering all layers of complex networks simulation is proposed. Performance of the algorithm is studied on different supercomputing systems. The issues of software and information infrastructure of complex networks simulation are discussed including organization of distributed calculations, crawling the data in social networks and results visualization. The applications of developed methods and technologies are considered including simulation of criminal networks disruption, fast rumors spreading in social networks, evolution of financial networks and epidemics spreading

Shipborne And Ground-Based Lidar Monitoring of the Atmosphere Over the Lake Baikal in 2018

The paper presents the results of studies aimed at the analysis and assessment of atmospheric pollution over the Lake Baikal in the summer. This information is necessary to create physical models of the formation and transfer of atmospheric aerosol fields, taking into account the physical and geographical features of the Baikal region. Measurements were carried out by a lidar «LOSA-A2» installed on the scientific-research vessel «Academician V.A. Koptyug». The vessel’s route passed along the South, Middle and Northern Baikal, from July 15, 2018 to July 26, 2018. At the same time, observations were conducted using lidar «LOSA-M2». It was located in the background area at Boyarsky stationary site (51.84° N, 106.06° E), in the south-eastern part of the lake. The results of changes in the spatial structure of atmospheric aerosol fields in background conditions and during forest fires are shown

Execution time estimation for workflow scheduling

Estimation of the execution time is an important part of the workflow scheduling problem. The aim of this paper is to highlight common problems in estimating the workflow execution time and propose a solution that takes into account the complexity and the stochastic aspects of the workflow components as well as their runtime. The solution proposed in this paper addresses the problems at different levels from a task to a workflow, including the error measurement and the theory behind the estimation algorithm. The proposed makespan estimation algorithm can be integrated easily into a wide class of schedulers as a separate module. We use a dual stochastic representation, characteristic/distribution function, in order to combine task estimates into the overall workflow makespan. Additionally, we propose the workflow reductions—operations on a workflow graph that do not decrease the accuracy of the estimates but simplify the graph structure, hence increasing the performance of the algorithm. Another very important feature of our work is that we integrate the described estimation schema into earlier developed scheduling algorithm GAHEFT and experimentally evaluate the performance of the enhanced solution in the real environment using the CLAVIRE platform

LUMINEU: a search for neutrinoless double beta decay based on ZnMoO 4 scintillating bolometers

The LUMINEU is designed to investigate the possibility to search for neutrinoless double beta decay in 100Mo by means of a large array of scintillating bolometers based on ZnMoO4 crystals enriched in 100Mo. High energy resolution and relatively fast detectors, which are able to measure both the light and the heat generated upon the interaction of a particle in a crystal, are very promising for the recognition and rejection of background events. We present the LUMINEU concepts and the experimental results achieved aboveground and underground with large-mass natural and enriched crystals. The measured energy resolution, the α/β discrimination power and the radioactive internal contamination are all within the specifications for the projected final LUMINEU sensitivity. Simulations and preliminary results confirm that the LUMINEU technology can reach zero background in the region of interest (around 3 MeV) with exposures of the order of hundreds kgXyears, setting the bases for a next generation 0v2β decay experiment capable to explore the inverted hierarchy region of the neutrino mass pattern
