A testable scenario of WIMPZILLA with Dark Radiation

    Get PDF
As the electromagnetic gauge symmetry makes the electron stable, a new abelian gauge symmetry may be responsible for the stability of superheavy dark matter. The gauge boson associated with the new gauge symmetry naturally plays the role of dark radiation and contributes to the effective number of `neutrino species', which has been recently measured by Planck. We estimate the contribution of dark radiation from the radiative decay of a scalar particle induced by the WIMPZILLA in the loop. The scalar particle may affect the invisible decay of the Higgs boson by the Higgs portal type coupling.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figure

Galactic center GeV gamma-ray excess from dark matter with gauged lepton numbers

    Get PDF
The recently observed excess in gamma-ray signal near the Galactic center suggests that dark matter particles may annihilate into charged fermions that produce gamma-ray to be observed. In this paper, we consider a leptonic dark matter, which annihilates into the standard model leptons, μ+μ\mu^+ \mu^- and τ+τ\tau^+ \tau^-, by the interaction of the gauged lepton number U(1)LμLτ{\rm U(1)}_{L_\mu-L_\tau} and fits the observed excess. Interestingly, the necessary annihilation cross section for the observed gamma-ray flux provides a good fit to the value for the relic abundance of dark matter. We identify the preferred parameter space of the model after taking the existing experimental constraints from the precision measurements including the muon (g2)(g-2), tau decay, neutrino trident production, dark matter direct detection, LHC, and LEP experiments.Comment: 18 pages, 8 figures, references added, matches published versio

An exploration of the outsider's role in selected works by Joseph Conrad, Malcolm Lowry, V.S. Naipaul.

PhDThis thesis explores ways in which the outsider questions rather than confirms dominant cultural values whilst avoiding the crudity of overt politicisation. I argue that the outsider's preference for an observer's stance is not so much an act which denies responsibility to the world of his day, but rather a means of reassessing its priorities. In Section One, I discuss Conrad's role as an outsider in the age of Empires. I demonstrate the ways in which Conrad employs narrators, frequently using strategies of irony which can be and have been read in very different ways. I argue that Conrad uses irony as a tool for condemnation rather than condonement of imperialist practice, if not its ideology. In Section Two, I discuss Lowry as an emigre from England (so contrasting him with Conrad, the immigrant from Europe), and examine his dissenting voice which opposes bourgeois prejudice against the working class, a totalising ideology like Fascism, and a Western rationalism which sees too rigid a distinction between sanity and madness. I demonstrate how Lowry as an outsider reacts to the age of twentieth century World Wars. In Section Three, I discuss Naipaul's role as an outsider in the age of decolonisation, when bogus liberals and false redeemers fail to rebuild the newly independent post-colonial states. As in Conrad's case, I show how a failure to read Naipaul's ironic tone of voice has given rise to radically divergent views as to what he is about. I also link Conrad and Naipaul through their cultural negotiation between the 'centre' and its peripheries. By looking at these three writers in chronological order and offering a comparative perspective on their work, I highlight the outsider's disturbing, yet illuminating role within a historical context. I also draw attention to creative tensions between artistic concerns and a serious political purpose. I assess the outsider as observer and man of conscience rather than as a` mere onlooker. I conclude that the outsider also fulfils a social obligation by promoting critical awareness on the reader's side by means of his defamiliarising perspective

CZYM JEST USTNY POEMAT HEROICZNY? – PRZEKRACZAJĄC GRANICE ILIADY

The ancient Greek epic Iliad, including the oral epic and the written epic, has enjoyed a solid status as a ‘heroic epic’ (or ‘narrative poetry’) of European literature. But if a reader takes look at the general aspects of the heroic epic of oral tradition, it turns out that Iliad is not a typical work of a typical epic, but rather an individual one. Because the birth, trials, performance, and ending of a hero’s life are divided relatively evenly, and the general pattern of transferring the hero’s life to the heroic epic of oral tradition can be found in such cases as Manas, Jangar, Gesar and Mwindo.

Model-Independent Production of a Top-Philic Resonance at the LHC

We investigate the collider phenomenology of a color-singlet vector resonance, which couples to the heaviest quarks, the top quarks, but very weakly to the rest of the fermions in the Standard Model. We find that the dominant production of such a resonance does not appear at the tree level -- it rather occurs at the one-loop level in association with an extra jet. Signatures like t anti-t plus jets readily emerge as a result of the subsequent decay of the resonance into a pair of top quarks. Without the additional jet, the resonance can still be produced off-shell, which gives a sizeable contribution at low masses. The lower top quark multiplicity of the loop induced resonance production facilitates its reconstruction as compared to the tree level production that gives rise to more exotic signatures involving three or even four top quarks in the final state. For all these cases, we discuss the constraints on the resonance production stemming from recent experimental measurements in the top quark sector. We find that the top-philic vector resonance remains largely unconstrained for the majority of the parameter space, although this will be scrutinized closely in the Run 2 phase of the LHC.Comment: 32 pages, 16 figure

Pressure Transmission in the Compaction Process for Nickel Powder using Finite Element Methods

    Get PDF
The compression process is one of the more widely used industrial manufacturing methods for fabricating desired shape of specimens with various materials such as metals and ceramics. In the compaction process, the upper punch moves into the powder, and force is transmitted between particles, then achieving densification. In this process, the powder can be considered to be in a particulate state, which means that while the powder consists of solids, it has characteristics quite similar to the fluid. Therefore, particles in the process can be seen as responding to hydrostatic pressure, and it can be assumed that the pressure is constant. However, the forces acted on the inter-particle continue to change during the process. Many parameters affect the force change, including compaction speed and the contact angle between particles. However, it is very difficult to verify these effects through experiments because it is impossible to arrange the inter-particle angle. Therefore, in this study, the force transmission mechanism was simulated in the compaction process using FEM simulation. To examine the contact angle and force transmission between the particles, a green compact was modeled as individual particles rather than as a continuum green compact. Finally, it was confirmed through analysis that the pressure transmission between the particles remained constant during the compression process.11Ysciescopu
