    Get PDF
The distinctive feature of the modern fictional writing is its interior turning to communicate the flow of human psychological experience. This has been extensively called the stream of consciousness. The stream of consciousness narrative method has become an exhilarating arena of exploration to which criticism has stretched out in this era. It is appealing for it tenders the opportunities of investigating a work of literary art or the mind of the novelist from multitude points of view. This essay rightly talks of the surfacing and the journey of this ground-breaking method of narration from the writers Henry James to James Joyce. Keywords: stream of consciousness, interior monologue, flow of thoughts, modern narrative technique, psychological device, novel writing, henry james, james joyc

Solution Adaptive Isotropic And Anisotropic Mesh Refinement Using General Elements

    Get PDF
Two refinement techniques to generate solution adaptive meshes have been developed. Both techniques utilize arbitrary polyhedra (general elements) to constrain the propagation of refinement. A face-based approach that produces isotropic refinement and a combined element- and edge-based approach that produces anisotropic refinement are presented. Refinement is triggered through sensors that use a shock detection algorithm or error estimation based on the smoothness of the reconstructed solution variables. The basic algorithms as well as specific implementation issues are presented. The advantages and disadvantages of the different methods are discussed and illustrated through a set of synthetic and realistic test cases. It is shown that general elements can be employed effectively in solution adaptive meshes generated using refinement

Joyce: A Quintessential Artist of 20th Century High Modernism – Richard Ellmann and Denis Donoghue – A Review

    Get PDF
James Joyce, in 1940, when asked to explain what Ulysses was about, he proudly commented - “I have put in so many enigmas and puzzles that it (sic) will keep professors busy for centuries arguing over what I meant, and that’s the only way of ensuring one’s immortality.” Critics and criticisms on Joyce are immense from the beginning to till date. The works of Joyce, like Shakespeare’s, provided great amount of material for the critics to study, investigate, interpret and evaluate their essence. These perceptions of critics, at times, appeared to have outnumbered the actual works by Joyce. These criticisms meticulously assessed the writer both in positive and negative aspects. In this light, for review and analysis, here I have taken two critical works that consider Joyce as a quintessential artist of the 20th century high modernism. Keywords: James Joyce, Criticism on Joyce, Richard Ellmann, Artist, Modernism

    Get PDF
Hypochaeris radicata is a perennial herb, commonly called as ‘hairy cat’s-ear’. The edible leaves and juice form of roots are suggested by the local healers of Nilgiris, Tamil Nadu, India for the treatment of inflammation and infectious diseases and for other health benefits. They were exploiting this plant severely, for the preparation of herbal formulations.  The present study was aimed at to establish the H. radicata through in vitro cultures using in vitro derived leaf explants for conservation of this species in natural habitat. Effective callus formation was noted in the MS medium fortified with BAP and NAA at 3.0 and 1.0 mg/L respectively (98.83%) followed by BAP and NAA at 3.0 and 0.5mg/L respectively (93.33%) and 2,4-D at 0.2mg/L (96.36%). The colour of the callus was yellowish green produced in MS medium with BAP and NAA and pale yellow in 2,4-D. The in vitro derived calli were well responded for shoot formation (94.25%) and root (87.65%) formations in BAP and NAA at 3.0 and 1.0mg/L respectively. The in vitro regenerated plantlets were successfully acclimatized (72.54%) in the hardening medium containing garden soil: sand: vermicompost of 1:1:1 by volume. The described protocol could be useful for germplasm conservation and commercial cultivation of H. radicata

Proximity-induced supercurrent through topological insulator based nanowires for quantum computation studies

    Get PDF
Proximity induced superconducting energy gap in the surface states of topological insulators has been predicted to host the much wanted Majorana fermions for fault tolerant quantum computation. Recent theoretically proposed architectures for topological quantum computation via Majoranas are based on large networks of Kitaevs one dimensional quantum wires, which pose a huge experimental challenge in terms of scalability of the current single nanowire based devices. Here, we address this problem by realizing robust superconductivity in junctions of fabricated topological insulator Bi2Se3 nanowires proximity coupled to conventional s wave superconducting W electrodes. Milling technique possesses great potential in fabrication of any desired shapes and structures at nanoscale level, and therefore can be effectively utilized to scale up the existing single nanowire based design into nanowire based network architectures. We demonstrate the dominant role of ballistic topological surface states in propagating the long range proximity induced superconducting order with high IcRN product in long Bi2Se3 junctions. Large upper critical magnetic fields exceeding the Chandrasekhar Clogston limit suggests the existence of robust superconducting order with spin triplet cooper pairing. An unconventional inverse dependence of IcRN product on the width of the nanowire junction was also observed.Comment: 12 page

Video Talks in English Laboratory: An Effective Tool in Promoting Self-motivated Language Learning in the ESL Context of Indian Learners

    Get PDF
Videos are an essential component in language labs and its usage has risen rapidly owing to the increasing stress on communicative practices. It is evident that the use of videos is a big advantage for language teachers in inspiring and facilitating the learners towards learning the target language. A large-scale survey by Canning-Wilson (2000) clearly indicates that the students like learning language through the use of videos. The learners are exposed to videos which are either streamed through programmed language software installed in computers or played separately. The videos situated in the learning software operate in a pattern that aims at certain skill development like following the native pronunciation pattern or teaching body language, etc. Such skills could also be achieved through the use of videos which focus on speeches by experts. Evidence of robust 2D transport and Efros-Shklovskii variable range hopping in disordered topological insulator (Bi2Se3) nanowires

    Get PDF
We report the experimental observation of variable range hopping conduction in focused-ion-beam (FIB) fabricated ultra-narrow nanowires of topological insulator (Bi2Se3). The value of the exponent in the hopping equation was extracted as ~ 1/2 for different widths of nanowires, which is the proof of the presence of Efros-Shklovskii hopping transport mechanism in a strongly disordered system. High localization lengths (0.5nm, 20nm) were calculated for the devices. A careful analysis of the temperature dependent fluctuations present in the magnetoresistance curves, using the standard Universal Conductance Fluctuation theory, indicates the presence of 2D topological surface states. Also, the surface state contribution to the conductance was found very close to one conductance quantum. We believe that our experimental findings shed light on the understanding of quantum transport in disordered topological insulator based nanostructures.Comment: 14pages, 4 figure

    Get PDF
The present study addresses a cost effective method for fabricating high performance and flexible supercapacitor based on the transition metel oxides of Mn3O4 thin films. The Mn3O4 prepared by SILAR method at different cycles such as 25, 50, 75 and 100 cycles. The prepared Mn3O4 thin films were characterized by means of structural, morphological and electrochemical studies. The structural studies of X-ray diffraction (XRD) reveal that 75 cycles have good crystalline nature with tetrahedral structure. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) indicates the functional group of Mn-O. Raman spectra indicate the formation of Mn3O4 thin films. SEM analysis depicted that Mn3O4 thin films have a rod-like structure. TEM images show the SAED pattern and lattice fringes of Mn3O4. The electrochemical measurements of CV, GCD and impedance measurements are investigated using 1M Na2SO4 electrolyte. In the electrochemical measurement Mn3O4 thin films exhibit the maximum specific capacitance value of 295 Fg-1 at the scan rate of 2 mVs-1

Movie Reviewing - A Prospective Incidental Learning Approach in English Language Acquisition

    Get PDF
In applied linguistics, the practice of incidental learning i.e., learning without conscious purpose of committing the learning instructions to memory, is broadly recommended for effective Second Language Acquisition (SLA). Besides, the advent and applications of new technologies provide immense opportunities to promote and endorse incidental learning in L2 classrooms. In recent interdisciplinary respects, the integration of media studies in tertiary level English language learning curricula is reckoned to be a sensible interdisciplinary approach with potential outcomes. And, observing the long-term consumption of media, it is also quite perceptible that Indian consumerism to cinema and its offshoots is naturally on the rise. With this understanding, this research article explores the areas for English language skills development taking into account of the perks of incidental learning particularly through learners’ regular experience with movie reviews
