An Empirical Study of Academic and Non-academic Staff’s Job Satisfaction and Organizational Commitment in an Institute of Higher Learning
Numerical studies have been conducted to determine the employees’ job satisfaction and organiza-tional commitment particularly in the corporates’ settings. There are few studies pertaining to the institutional staff’s job satisfaction and organizational commitment. Therefore, this study seeks to identify the influence of job satisfaction on organizational commitment among the academic and non-academic staff in institute of higher learning. The antecedent selected to identify the organization commitment was staff’s job satisfaction. Questionnaires were constructed and distributed to the aca-demic and non-academic staff of an institute of higher learning. This study identified three important findings namely male staff were more satisfied with their jobs compared to female staff, there was no significant difference between male and female staff on organizational commitment and levels of job satisfaction has significant influence on staff’s organizational commitment. The results showed that staff who were satisfied with their jobs demonstrated higher level of commitment and more unlikely to change their job.

Enhancement of Structural Reliability of Jacket Platforms in Malaysian Waters for Life Extension
Most of the jacket platforms that belongs to PETRONAS Carigali Sdn Bhd have been operated more than their service life for Enhancement of Oil Recovery (EOR). However, it is uncertain to claim the platforms are safe for life extension. Hence, enhancement of structural reliability becomes a necessity to justify the platform is safe throughout the EOR period. In this paper, the effect of local joint flexibility on enhancement of structural reliability of offshore jacket structure in Malaysia waters will be studied. Rigid joint assumptions made during software modelling of jacket structures, had been practiced for past decades. While, standards such as API RP2A-WSD only applies local joint flexibility to the fatigue life analysis. However, past researches show that tubular joints of offshore structure in reality are not fully rigid but possesses flexibilities

Underpinning excellence in higher education – an investigation into the leadership, governance and management behaviours of high-performing academic departments.
The changes in government funding alongside external pressures of increased international and national competition have meant that higher education institutions need to excel in a turbulent environment. The leadership, governance and management (LGM) of academic departments are key concerns. This study investigates the correlation between behaviours, attitudes and competencies at a department level and overall departmental performance in terms of hard data measures. The research question this paper seeks to address is: what are the LGM behaviours that are associated with high-performance in academic departments? More than 600 people across 50 academic departments in 5 UK universities were surveyed through the use of three research phases consisting of open-ended questionnaires, critical case sampled semi-structured interviews and a fixed-response survey. Synthesising the data and findings of the study revealed a thematic framework of eight broad themes that contribute to excellence in academic departments. These were in the areas of change management, research and teaching, communication, strategy and shared values, leadership, departmental culture, rewards and staffing. The behaviours associated with each of these themes were used to construct the Underpinning Excellence model
