Recomendações para inoculação e peletizacao de sementes de leguminosas forrageiras tropicais.
Este trabalho teve por objetivo testar um produto adesivo de fácil obtenção e baixo preço, bem como verificar a adequação dos fosfatos de rocha regionais para formação de "pelets" e sua influência na sobrevivência do inoculante, aplicado a semente de diversas leguminosas forrageiras tropicais de interesse regional. Closure of a human tissue biobank: Individual, institutional, and field expectations during cycles of promise and disappointment
Biobanks are increasingly being established to act as mediators between patient-donors and researchers. In practice, some of these will close. This paper details the experiences of one such bank. We report interviews with the bank's staff and oversight group during the period when the bank ceased biobanking activity, reconfigured as a disseminator of best practice, before then closing altogether. The paper makes three distinct contributions: (i) to provide a detailed account of the establishment, operational challenges, and eventual closure of the bank, which makes clear the rapid turnover in a cycle of promise and disappointment; (ii) to explore this in terms of a novel analytical focus upon field, institutional, and individual expectations; and (iii) to use this typology to demonstrate how, even after the bank's closure, aspects of its work were reconfigured and reused in new contexts. Reciclagem de nitrogênio em pastagem consorciada de Calopogonium mucunoides com Brachiaria decumbens.
O trabalho estuda a reciclagem de nitrogênio (N) de Calopogonium mucunoides associado com Brachiaria decumbens, sob pastejo continuo, com lotação de 2,5 U.A/ha. As avaliações foram efetuadas através da medida de crescimento da matéria seca (MS) da gramínea e da leguminosa e da quantidade de N em Kg/ha, mobilizada pelo crescimento para a biomassa das plantas da pastagem. Efetuaram-se avaliações do N total e N assimilável (amônia + nitrato) no perfil do solo, a profundidade de 0 a 250 cm, bem como do desempenho do Rhizobium associado a leguminosa. Pode-se determinar que, a consorciação, o crescimento da gramínea, que mobilizou do solo para a vegetação 105,47 kg de N/ha, foi acrescido de mais 81,37 kg de N/ha por ano, mobilizado pelo crescimento da leguminosa.Na pastagem de gramínea pura, o N mobilizado do solo foi de 123,10 kg de N/ha. e uma diferença significativa (P<0,05) de 63,84 kg de N/ha por ano foi adicionada ao sistema da pastagem, sendo atribuída em sua maior parte a fixação simbiótica, realizada pelo Calopogonium mucunoides. O N reciclado resultou um aumento significativo (P<0,05) na oferta de N e proteína bruta na forragem disponível do pasto consociado, ao longo do ano. A leguminosa foi responsável também por um aumento significativo (P<0,05) da percentagem de N total na camada superficial do solo e aumentou significativamente (P<0,05) o conteúdo de N assimilável no perfil. Topological descriptors for 3D surface analysis
We investigate topological descriptors for 3D surface analysis, i.e. the
classification of surfaces according to their geometric fine structure. On a
dataset of high-resolution 3D surface reconstructions we compute persistence
diagrams for a 2D cubical filtration. In the next step we investigate different
topological descriptors and measure their ability to discriminate structurally
different 3D surface patches. We evaluate their sensitivity to different
parameters and compare the performance of the resulting topological descriptors
to alternative (non-topological) descriptors. We present a comprehensive
evaluation that shows that topological descriptors are (i) robust, (ii) yield
state-of-the-art performance for the task of 3D surface analysis and (iii)
improve classification performance when combined with non-topological

Consorciação de pastagem de Brachiaria decumbens Stapf v. Australiana, com leguminosas plantadas em faixas e sob condições de pastejo.
As pastagens de Brachiaria decumbens apos alguns anos de utilização podem apresentar um decréscimo na produção de matéria seca (MS) resultando em menor capacidade de suporte. Visando solucionar esse problema foi estabelecido um experimento com o objetivo de se manter ou elevar a produtividade de pastagens de B. decumbens pela introdução de leguminosas. Metal-ligand complexation and clustering in mussel-inspired side-chain functionalized supramolecular hydrogels
Byssus threads of mussels have high resistance against abrasion in wave-swept habitats because of their outer cuticle, which is rich in amino acid dopa complexes with Fe3+ ions. This stems from the transient nature of metal–ligand complexes that creates extra relaxation mechanisms. Inspired by this concept, in this work, supramolecular hydrogels based on poly(acrylic acid) functionalized with nitrocatechol groups are synthesized. Polymer chains are physically crosslinked via nitrocatechol–Fe3+ complexes. The hydrogels have different polymer volume fractions as well as different nitrocatechol : Fe3+ molar ratios. The strength of the supramolecular crosslinks strongly depends on the pH of the medium. The dynamics of these hydrogels are studied by stress relaxation experiments followed by calculation of the relaxation time spectrum. Generally, samples have three relaxation modes, including dissociation of distinct metal–ligand complexes, reptation of sticky polymer chains, and disengagement of network segments from supramolecular aggregates and clusters. Such clusters hinder the terminal relaxation and potentially increase the stability of supramolecular hydrogels
The Temperature of the CMB at 10 GHz
We report the results of an effort to measure the low frequency portion of
the spectrum of the Cosmic Microwave Background Radiation (CMB), using a
balloon-borne instrument called ARCADE (Absolute Radiometer for Cosmology,
Astrophysics, and Diffuse Emission). These measurements are to search for
deviations from a thermal spectrum that are expected to exist in the CMB due to
various processes in the early universe. The radiometric temperature was
measured at 10 and 30 GHz using a cryogenic open-aperture instrument with no
emissive windows. An external blackbody calibrator provides an in situ
reference. A linear model is used to compare the radiometer output to a set of
thermometers on the instrument. The unmodeled residuals are less than 50 mK
peak-to-peak with a weighted RMS of 6 mK. Small corrections are made for the
residual emission from the flight train, atmosphere, and foreground Galactic
emission. The measured radiometric temperature of the CMB is 2.721 +/- 0.010 K
at 10 GHz and 2.694 +/- 0.032 K at 30 GHz.Comment: 8 pages including 5 figures. Submitted to The Astrophysical Journa
Traversed Graph Representation for Sparse Encoding of Macro-Reentrant Tachycardia
© Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2016.Macro-reentrant atrial and ventricular tachycardias originate from additional circuits in which the activation of the cardiac chambers follows a high-frequency rotating pattern. The macro-reentrant circuit can be interrupted by targeted radiofrequency energy delivery with a linear lesion transecting the pathway. The choice of the optimal ablation site is determined by the operator’s experience, thus limiting the procedure success, increasing its duration and also unnecessarily extending the ablated tissue area in the case of incorrect ablation target estimation. In this paper, an algorithm for automatic intraoperative detection of the tachycardia reentry path is proposed by modelling the propagation as a graph traverse problem. Moreover, the optimal ablation point where the path should be transected is computed. Finally, the proposed method is applied to sparse electroanatomical data to demonstrate its use when undersampled mapping occurs. Thirteen electroanatomical maps of right ventricle and right and left atrium tachycardias from patients treated for congenital heart disease were analysed retrospectively in this study, with prediction accuracy tested against the recorded ablation sites and arrhythmia termination points
Effect of molybdenum on numbers of Azospirillum on Brachiaria Decumbens production
Foram obtidos aumentos de 19% na produção de materia seca e 29% na produção de N total em Brachiaria decumbens cv. Basilisk (australiana) mantida sob pastejo com 2,5 ua/ha, em resposta à adubação com 160 g de Mo/ha, na forma de molibdato de sódio. O experimento foi conduzido em um Latossolo Vermelho-Escuro fase Cerradão, fertilizado com P, K, Cu, Zn e B. O período de avaliação foi entre setembro/82 e abril/83. Levantamentos quinzenais da ocorrência de Azospirillum spp. mostraram consistentemente maior número de bactérias em raízes de plantas crescidas nas áreas com Mo do que em áreas sem este elemento.Production of dry matter and total N of Brachiaria decumbens cv. Basilisk under a grazing pressure of 2.5 au/ha were increased by 19% and 29% respectively, in response to fertilization with 160 g of Mo/ha, applied as sodium molybdate.
