Silicon strip detectors with capacitative charge division

    No full text
Measurements of the behaviour of various high-resolution silicon strip detectors with capacitive charge division have been made in a high-energy particle beam. The results are compared with an electrostatic model which calculates the charges deposited on the strips after the passage of a minimum ionizing particle. Good agreement is found and the model is used to propose a method of improving the charge-division properties of such detectors

At the CERN intersecting storage ring the inclusive differential cross section (d sigma /d sigma )/sub y=1/ has been measured for f/sup 0/, g /sup 0/, K*/sup 0/(1420), and K*/sup 0/(1420) production: the authors obtain 0.58+or-0.05 mb, 0.09+or-0.05 mb, 38+or-15 mu b, and 26+or-12 mu b, respectively. The corresponding total inclusive cross sections are estimated to be 2.62+or-0.26 mb, 0.40+or-0.22 mb, 154+or-60 mu b, and 107+or-52 mu b, respectively. The magnitude of the K* cross section implies a cross section of approximately 5 mu b for production of a charmed DD pair. (6 refs)

Diffractive production of the charmed baryon LAMBDAc+_{c}^{+} at the CERN ISR

In a sample of diffractive events of high multiplicity a sharp five standard deviation signal is observed at M=2255 MeV/c/sup 2/ in the K /sup -/p pi /sup +/ mass distribution and, although with less statistical strength, at the same mass in the lambda /sup 0/ pi /sup + / pi /sup +/ pi /sup -/ channel. These signals are identified as being due to the decay of the charmed baryon Lambda /sub c//sup +/ which is produced with a cross section times branching ratio sigma /sub C/B in the range 0.7-1.8 mu b for the K/sup -/ pi /sup +/p decay and 0.3-0.7 mu b for the Lambda /sup 0/ pi /sup +/ pi /sup +/ pi /sup -/ system.
