    Resonant spin-dependent electron coupling in a III-V/II-VI heterovalent double quantum well

    We report on design, fabrication, and magnetooptical studies of a III-V/II-VI hybrid structure containing a GaAs/AlGaAs/ZnSe/ZnCdMnSe double quantum well (QW). The structure design allows one to tune the QW levels into the resonance, thus facilitating penetration of the electron wave function from the diluted magnetic semiconductor ZnCdMnSe QW into the nonmagnetic GaAs QW and vice versa. Magneto-photoluminescence studies demonstrate level anticrossing and strong intermixing resulting in a drastic renormalization of the electron effective g factor, in perfect agreement with the energy level calculations.Comment: 4 pages, 5 Postscript figures, uses revtex

    Innovative Strategy for Selecting Industries for Program-Target Stimulation of Regional Economic Diversification

    The purpose of this study is to substantiate the approach to the selection of industries for program-target stimulation of regional economy diversification, focusing on developing new strong industries and increasing the economic complexity of the regional economy. The research methodology is based on the application of the concept of revealed comparative advantages and an assessment of the economic complexity of industries and regions of Russia (the Udmurt Republic, Republic of Mordovia, Kaliningrad Region, and Trans-Baikal Territory) using data on tax revenues by economic sectors. The novelty of this research lies in demonstrating the effectiveness of applying the revealed comparative advantage concept, an approach to assessing economic complexity based on the use of tax revenue data by economic sectors, and a strategy for modernizing intermediate opportunities when selecting industries for program-target stimulation of regional economy diversification. The practical significance of the results is determined by the possibilities of their use in the application of program-target mechanisms to solve problems of stimulating the development of individual sectors of the regional economy.     Association between antiarrhythmic, electrophysiological and antioxidative effects of melatonin in ischemia/reperfusion

    Melatonin is assumed to confer cardioprotective action via antioxidative properties. We evaluated the association between ventricular tachycardia and/or ventricular fibrillation (VT/VF) incidence, oxidative stress, and myocardial electrophysiological parameters in experimental ischemia/reperfusion under melatonin treatment. Melatonin was given to 28 rats (10 mg/kg/day, orally, for 7 days) and 13 animals received placebo. In the anesthetized animals, coronary occlusion was induced for 5 min followed by reperfusion with recording of unipolar electrograms from ventricular epicardium with a 64-lead array. Effects of melatonin on transmembrane potentials were studied in ventricular preparations of 7 rats in normal and ?ischemic? conditions. Melatonin treatment was associated with lower VT/VF incidence at reperfusion, shorter baseline activation times (ATs), and activation-repolarization intervals and more complete recovery of repolarization times (RTs) at reperfusion (less baseline-reperfusion difference, ΔRT) (p < 0.05). Superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity was higher in the treated animals and associated with ΔRT (p = 0.001), whereas VT/VF incidence was associated with baseline ATs (p = 0.020). In vitro, melatonin led to a more complete restoration of action potential durations and resting membrane potentials at reoxygenation (p < 0.05). Thus, the antioxidative properties of melatonin were associated with its influence on repolarization duration, whereas the melatonin-related antiarrhythmic effect was associated with its oxidative stress-independent action on ventricular activation.Fil: Sedova, Ksenia A..     ВНУТРИГОСПИТАЛЬНАЯ ТРАНСПОРТИРОВКА ПАЦИЕНТОВ С РАЗРЫВОМ АРТЕРИАЛЬНЫХ АНЕВРИЗМ ГОЛОВНОГО МОЗГА

    Goal: to evaluate cerebral hemodynamics in the patients with aneurysm rupture during their transportation within the hospital. Materials and methods. 60 patients divided into 2 groups were included into the study. Patients from group 1 were transported as it was traditionally adopted in the clinic; additional sedation and continuous administration of nimodipine were used in group 2. Results. The increase of medium blood velocity in cerebral vessels by 23.5% on the operated side was observed in group 1. Continuous administration nimodipine solution during all transport stages allows reducing the velocity increase in cerebral vessels on the operated side down to 4.5%. Conclusion. The increase of cerebral angiospasm was observed during intrahospital transportation. The need for additional sedation has been justified for the patients transported while being on the artificial pulmonary ventilation. Цель: оценить церебральную гемодинамику у пациентов с разрывом аневризм при внутрибольничной транспортировке. Материалы и методы. Проведено исследование у 60 пациентов, разделенных на две группы. Больные 1-й группы транспортированы по принятой в клинике методике, а 2-й − с применением дополнительной седации и непрерывным введением нимодипина. Результаты. Отмечено нарастание средних скоростей по церебральным сосудам на 23,5% на стороне оперативного вмешательства в 1-й группе. Применение непрерывного введения раствора нимодипина на всех этапах транспортировки позволяет снизить повышение скорости по церебральным сосудам на стороне хирургического вмешательства до 4,5%. Заключение. Выявлено повышение показателей церебрального ангиоспазма при внутригоспитальной транспортировке. Обоснована необходимость применения дополнительной седации у пациентов, транспортируемых с применением искусственной вентиляции легких.
