Functional traits driving species role in the structure of terrestrial vertebrate scavenger networks
Species assemblages often have a non-random nested organization, which in vertebrate scavenger (carrion-consuming) assemblages is thought to be driven by facilitation in competitive environments. However, not all scavenger species play the same role in maintaining assemblage structure, as some species are obligate scavengers (i.e., vultures) and others are facultative, scavenging opportunistically. We used a database with 177 vertebrate scavenger species from 53 assemblages in 22 countries across five continents to identify which functional traits of scavenger species are key to maintaining the scavenging network structure. We used network analyses to relate ten traits hypothesized to affect assemblage structure with the role of each species in the scavenging assemblage in which it appeared. We characterized the role of a species in terms of both the proportion of monitored carcasses on which that species scavenged, or scavenging breadth (i.e., the species normalized degree), and the role of that species in the nested structure of the assemblage (i.e., the species paired nested degree), therefore identifying possible facilitative interactions among species. We found that species with high olfactory acuity, social foragers, and obligate scavengers had the widest scavenging breadth. We also found that social foragers had a large paired nested degree in scavenger assemblages, probably because their presence is easier to detect by other species to signal carcass occurrence. Our study highlights differences in the functional roles of scavenger species and can be used to identify key species for targeted conservation to maintain the ecological function of scavenger assemblages
Spieleridentifizierung in FuĂballvideos mittels visueller Merkmale und Konstellationsmodellen
As football is one of the worlds most popular sports, the ever-increasing amount of football video content and the tight competition between teams lead to an increasing demand in tools for automatic analysis of football videos.
The work presented here proposes an approach for automatic player identification in broadcast football videos. It is â to the best of the authorâs knowledge â one of the first approaches that tackle player identification on the main broadcast camera, as opposed to other approaches that employ close-up camera and thus allow for face identification and increased resolution for jersey number recognition. In order to identify players in football videos, a couple of processing steps are required: Video sequences are subdivided into shots and classified according to their camera perspective to filter those segments taken from the main overview camera. Subsequently, players are detected and tracked, and camera calibration is performed using evolutionary strategies. Only then the actual identification of players can be performed.
One of the main contributions of this work to the state of the art is the utilization of different player position models for player identification, which improves a baseline approach that relies on jersey number recognition only. These position models capture the tactical constellations of teams with naive Bayes classifiers and Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN). The jersey number recognition approach presented here is also based on CNNs.
An additional contribution of this work is an adaptive approach for semi-supervised player detection models using color features. This allows exploiting the uniform appearance of players for improved player detection. Because there are no publicly available video datasets for player identification â which is common in the area of sport video analytics â this work presents such a dataset of recordings from the German Bundesliga 2012 season on which the work is evaluated.
The aforementioned contributions improved the identification accuracy from 0.76 for an approach solely based on jersey number recognition to 0.83 for a combined approach of position models with jersey number recognition. I.e. the identification error is reduced from 24% to 17%, resulting in a relative error reduction of 29%. For player detection, the proposed adaptive, semi-supervised approach reduced the number of false positive detections by 22% when compared to a baseline approach based on Histogram of Oriented Gradients and Support Vector Machines, which is commonly used in pedestrian detection.

Object-oriented programming is the current mainstream programming paradigm but existing RDF APIs are mostly tripleoriented. Traditional techniques for bridging a similar gap between relational databases and object-oriented programs cannot be applied directly given the different nature of Semantic Web data, for example in the semantics of class membership, inheritance relations, and object conformance to schemas. We present ActiveRDF, an object-oriented API for managing RDF data that offers full manipulation and querying of RDF data, does not rely on a schema and fully conforms to RDF(S) semantics. ActiveRDF can be used with different RDF data stores: adapters have been implemented to generic SPARQL endpoints, Sesame, Jena, Redland and YARS and new adapters can be added easily. In addition, integration with the popular Ruby on Rails framework enables rapid development of Semantic Web applications
Uncertainty about QE effects when an interest rate peg is anticipated
After hitting the lower bound on interest rates, the Eurosystem engaged in a public sector purchase programme (PSPP) and forward guidance (FG). We use prior and posterior predictive analysis to evaluate the importance of parameter uncertainty in an analysis of these policies. We model FG as an anticipated temporary interest rate peg. The degree of parameter uncertainty is considerable and increasing in the length of FG. The probability of being able to reset prices and wages is the most important factor driving uncertainty about inflation. In contrast, variations in financial intermediaries' net worth adjustment costs have little impact on in ation outcomes
Optimized and flexible scheduling of AGVs and process machines in Re- manufacturing 4 .0 Systems using multi-agent technology and simultaneous scheduling
In remanufacturing processes the condition of the used products is unknown. This leads to many challenges which are special to the domain of remanufacturing and not known from manufacturing. One of these challenges is the stochastic routing of products based on the unknown product conditions. This problem in particular requires a flexible scheduling and control system for the remanufacturing system as well as the intralogistics.
The aim of this research is to optimize the scheduling and control of remanufacturing systems considering the flexible material transport by AGVs. Therefore the networking of all resources is organized as an embedded system treating the remanufacturing system as a cyber-physical system in the context of industry 4.0. The scheduling and control of the remanufacturing system will be achieved by a combination of multi-agent technology to deal with unexpected events and the optimization of the schedule by simultaneous scheduling of machines and AGVs. Machine scheduling and transport scheduling have been vastly studied by many researchers, but most of the works address both problems separately. However, these two problems are closely linked and influence each other. By looking at them together, it is possible to achieve an improvement in the overall schedule.
In the first step of the research work, the simultaneous scheduling of machines and AGVs has been compared with the currently used sequential scheduling within a simulation study. For this purpose, benchmark instances known in the literature were used. The simulation results show the superiority of the simultaneous scheduling of machines and AGVs
Human-Robot-Collaboration for dismantling processes
Remanufacturing of used technical products allows saving of raw material and energy. The complex and mostly manual disassembly of the products prevents the application of remanufacturing in industry. The fully automated dismantling can not be achieved and the manual work causes high labour costs. Companies can profit by remanufacturing. Using human-robot collaboration for disassembly allows a certain degree of automation and provides the flexibility and knowledge of the human. This is a promising approach to economically realise a disassembly and remanufacturing of products which are difficult to disassemble or have a high variance
