NMR Probing Spin Excitations in the Ring-Like Structure of a Two-Subband System
Resistively detected nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) is observed inside the
ring-like structure, with a quantized Hall conductance of 6e^2/h, in the phase
diagram of a two subband electron system. The NMR signal persists up to 400 mK
and is absent in other states with the same quantized Hall conductance. The
nuclear spin-lattice relaxation time, T1, is found to decrease rapidly towards
the ring center. These observations are consistent with the assertion of the
ring-like region being a ferromagnetic state that is accompanied by collective

Models for application of radiation boundary condition for MHD waves in collapse calculations
The problem of reflection of magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) waves at the boundary of a numerical grid has to be resolved in order to obtain reliable results for the end state of the (isothermal) collapse of a rotating, magnetic protostellar cloud. Since the goal of investigating magnetic braking in collapse simulations is to see if the transport of angular momentum via alfven waves is large enough to solve the angular momentum problem an approximation that artificially suppresses large amplitudes in the MHD waves can be self-defeating. For this reason, four alternate methods of handling reflected waves where no assumptions are made regarding the amplitudes of the waves were investigated. In order to study this problem (of reflection) without interference from other effects these methods were tried on two simpler cases. The four methods are discussed
Thermal constraints on in vivo optogenetic manipulations.
A key assumption of optogenetics is that light only affects opsin-expressing neurons. However, illumination invariably heats tissue, and many physiological processes are temperature-sensitive. Commonly used illumination protocols increased the temperature by 0.2-2 °C and suppressed spiking in multiple brain regions. In the striatum, light delivery activated an inwardly rectifying potassium conductance and biased rotational behavior. Thus, careful consideration of light-delivery parameters is required, as even modest intracranial heating can confound interpretation of optogenetic experiments
Exploring Organizational Communication (Micro) History Through Network Connections
In light of the 100th anniversary of the National Communication Association, the following essay offers an initial look at the communication subdiscipline of organizational communication and its development over the past seven-plus decades. As part of this review, we advocate the use of network methods as a microhistory analytic tool to explore the vast number of connections, both between people and research interests, generated as the discipline developed from its humble beginnings. This work represents a small sample of the greater Organizational Communication Genealogy Project. This larger effort seeks to create a detailed review of the discipline as it explores the relationships between advisors and advisees, the development of dissertation and current research topics, the collaborative network of coauthorship, and the contributions of individual scholars through the analysis of interview data, narratives, and historical documents
Completion Report: Arkansas State Pesticides in Ground Water Monitoring Project Phase V: Vulnerable areas in Jackson, Monroe, Lawrence and Lonoke Counties
In 1996, sixty-seven water samples were drawn from 65 wells, including 62 new wells and 3 wells sampled previously . One Woodruff County well and two Pulaski County wells were resampled. Thirty-two samples were drawn from 30 wells in Monroe County (well #1 was sampled 3 times during this phase) . Ten wells in Jackson County, 12 wells in Lawrence County and 10 wells in Lonoke were also tested (Figures 1-5) . With the completion of Phase V, the number of wells tested has risen to 231 with a total of 258 samples analyzed . Initially, the wells were tested for 13 pesticides and ni~rate. Two more pesticides, aldicarb and carbofuran were added to the analyte list during Phase V. The analyte list is shown in Table 3 . All results from all the wells are listed in Appendix A. Quality control information for these data follow the results. The Phase V Quality Assurance Report is included in this document as Part II
