Segmentation of the Sea Floor in Øresund using Deformable Templates in Feature Space

    No full text
We segment the sea floor in Øresund based on RoxAnn measurements. RoxAnn is a precision method which uses the first and second echo sounder backscatter. The deformable templates approach is used in feature space to obtain three classifiers, which classify eelgrass, mussels and sand. Keywords: Sonar, RoxAnn, Sea floor, Deformable Templates, Classification and Segmentation. 1 Introduction In order to explore the coherence of RoxAnn, echo sounder measurements and sea bottom types we use deformable templates in feature space as a classifier to segment the sea floor in Øresund. Deformable templates are usually used to segment objects in an image, but can as well be used as classifiers in feature space. We introduce a new energy function in the segmentation procedure. Deformable templates in feature space do not assume any distribution of the features. The RoxAnn data were logged during the first field campaign under the EU project BioSonar, which runs for the period 96 to 98. RoxAnn uses t..
